I love Uruguay! I was born 16 hours away (by car) from Colônia. Uruguayans are one of the most friendly people I ever see! I love chivito (we have those in southern Brazil and it’s called “Xis”). I miss drinking Tannah’s. Hard to find it in the USA. Dulce de leche and asado are part of our daily life, as is the mate! 🇺🇾 ❤
YES!!!! This was my favorite place that we visited during our week in Uruguay! Derek and I stayed at the Charco hotel and had a great time, and loved their restaurant, too! We got off the ferry from BA with rolling carry-on bags, so it's important to be prepared to either get a taxi, pick up your bags, or brave the cobblestones with your wheels!
I have a good friend who is from Argentina and he has been telling me for years that he wants to take me to Uruguay for all of the reason you talked abut in your video. After seeing this video I may just have to go without him( although I would love to go to with someone who knows their way around) because it looks so nice and a place I would really enjoy! You made my Sunday! Thank you!
Love seeing videos about my country 🥰 I live in the US. You should visit the beaches on canelones and also Piriápolis! It's a beautiful place to be!! Great video!!
Fun fact. I was just there a few months ago and if you paid with a foreign credit card, there was no sales tax added and a 10% discount applied. This was in any shop or restaurant in Colonia. Not sure if it was a promotion or a permanent thing.
I love to see these Uruguay videos. I don't know why, but if I ever visit South America, Uruguay is at the top of my list. It looks like a fascinating country, and so interesting how it developed so differently from its neighbors. And watching you reminded me of the time I tried filming a video on my channel in the rain. There is no record of it because, even though the camera was in a plastic bag, it quit and nothing but audio actually recorded.
Great video as always Mark! I'm uruguayan, but I left the country a couple of years ago. I'm living in Spain, which has been the greatest decision I've ever made. However, from the outside and as a traveler myself, I tend to think that perhaps I never enjoyed traveling in my own country as I should have. I'm from Montevideo, so the two times I returned since I left, I just went there and to the east region. BTW, I'm missing chivito and asado very much 😫 Hahaha.
We are currently just starting Autumn/leaving summer, and masks are mandatory basically everywhere, also most places are closed so the video is definetly old. It was filmed before the pandemic
As of today, yes. You need a negative PCR and you must quarantine for at least 15 days or 7 days if you take another PCR (and turns out negative). Private labs charge around U$S 50. However, it's constantly changing so I would advise you to check governmental websites or check requirements with the embassy in your country.
@@m.w.6526 The best time to come to Uruguay IMO is late november to march. Thats when you get the best weather and all sorts of cultural activities. The rest of the year is fine but expect a lot of rain, wind, and cold days
The borders are closed for non residents and tourists atm. It's been like that since last year. I hope you enjoy the country once the borders are open again
Colonia is a very charming town. Nice video about how great it is. I have been from Colonia to Chuy and all over in between and the entire country is very nice and filled with friendly people. BTW, the best chivito I had there was in a restaurant in the lower level of Tres Cruces!
El Drugstore's prices at 4:54 don't make sense. First, 31 Euro is not 30 USD. It's more like $37. And 7.50 Brazillian Real is about $1.35. Lastly an Argentine Peso is worth about a penny. So I'm guessing that sign is a joke.
Nice video! I went there two years ago in July and it was nice. I agree with everything you said in the video. For some (like myself) being in Colonia half a day may be better because it is a pretty small place. After that it is better to take the bus to Montevideo for spending the night, and that way you have a whole next day in the capital. I would also advise to get your bus tickets to Montevideo ahead of time before exploring Colonia.
My wife and I took the ferry from Buenos Aires for a day trip about 7 years ago. It was "meh". It was better than a fourth day in BA. It just didn't feel remarkable. With that said, everyone has different experiences and likes. Appreciate the videos.
@@StamfordBridge I get that but it's not actual vietnamese, it's english wrongly detected by UA-cam as Vietnamese.... I'm sure they can't read it as it's nothing related to what he's saying. He says UA-cam for instance and it becomes something else in English actually.
Looks nice! Still uncertain whether the virus does indeed hide in the nasal cavities and is transmissible after vaccination. Perhaps will be safe for travel later this year. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I was in Uruguay in December 2017. Great weather, great people, amazing cities. When it comes to payments, I mostly used Brazilian credit cards (I had one Visa and one MasterCard on me) and I automatically got a considerable refund. At least at that time, they had a policy of refunding the taxes when you paid with foreign credit cards.
As I said in another video of your series, this is an interesting one but outdated. Because of the pandemic, all borders are closed, there is no ferry and in fact the port of Colonia has been closed for over a year. It is very sad to see the town so empty, no international tourism, which is the blood of the town. We look forward to better times and reopening, hopefully soon, at least here the vaccination program is going well. If you ever come back to Colonia, don't forget to visit the Museo del Origami, the only museum of paperfolding in the Americas and just one of the only two in the Western Hemisphere (www.musedelorigami.org). It is right around the corner of the Muralla in the Historic District. Good luck and stay safe!

Great tips as always. Headed to Colonia in April 2025, and I can't wait.

How much was the golf cart to rent?
I cannot remember sadly. I remember it wasn't bad. But we had a good location for our hotel so just walked.
Aw the golf carts are really cool!
It worth a stop in between Montevideo and buenos aries. Nice place with good food. Great people and many friendly dogs lol

I'm wondering that too! Borders are supposed to be closed to foreigners here
