Upgraded a squire strat with budget Wilkinson pickups made a big difference on the cheap.
I built a James Burton Tele for my son in law and you are right about the bridge plate. It was string through and a tricky job. It was an expensive body and placing and drilling the holes was nerve wracking! I fortunately did a good job though. He got a deal on the body as it was a blem but they are like $600 bodies.

Don’t know if microphonic pickups are always that bad. In this case yes, but original PAF pickups are unpotted and microphonic. Many people feel that it gives PAFs their character and an open airiness that other subsequent Gibson humbuckers lack. Though nobody is comparing this Donner to a ‘Burst and the new pickups on these do sound a lot better.

I'd pot the existing pickup and just replace the saddles. Boom! Even less money is thrown into a $99 guitar. The pickup selector may have a slightly better feel on your Tele, but the electronics are not that big of a bang on the buck. That neck does look sweet on that guitar. I really like the look of your guitar. Great job, Steve!
Greeting's Steve from Central Coast Australia, I just purchased a Donner DST-152 and for the price these guitars rock and as you say the necks are very nice and comfortable I haven't seen the Telecasters yet down in Australia but I will be on the look out, I'm now a Donner fan ................thanks for all the great reviews !

Gotta say LAMSAM stuff isn't bad. I've built 3 guitars this year. 2 teles and 1 strat. I used LAMSAM pots and electronics on all 3. For the money not a bad thing. Im sure you will be pleased. I was surprised by the quality.

only time I put big money into a budget and I have about 10 I have is if the wood is real good, and if its for myself never planning to sell as a whole, no way you can get your money back, but a budget if it's good wood can be as good if not better than a hi end git...
I agree .. some cheap mods/upgrades can turn a mediocer low end guitar into a player grade enjoyable guitar !!
How are the tuners? I often find that tuners on cheaper guitars are often not very good and need to be replaced.
Otherwise the guitar and the upgrades seem great!
