Harry good job I was born in Battersea 1971 youngest of 6 from a big family we had a council house off Lavender Hill. Me and my brother used to go to Sir Walter St John’s that merged with Battersea county became Battersea Park School I think. Like most people I grew up with had to leave the area due to housing cost. No surprise them old victorian terraced house’s cost well over 1m in SW11 ! They were calling it South Chelsea in the 80s on my paper rounds before I went to School. You’re not the first generation to face social cleansing seen it before and I am of white Irish descent. Started many years ago I think. Good work here I will definitely have to pay the area a visit to see the change and sure I will be shocked at the scale of it not been back for over 20 years !
I lived in Penge House in the late '60s to mid-'70s. A council flat then. Recently, our old flat was up for rent. £600. Not bad, eh? Until you consider that is PER WEEK! Obscene.
We really need a regeneration in the Winstanley Estate. It’s in Wandsworth, that’s strange cause Wandsworth’s Council Estates aren’t usually so bad.....
Most people who live on the estate are aware that its not more violent or dangerous than any other estate. Most believe it to be a normal place with isolated criminal and sometimes violent events but this is true for most urban areas around the world. However I do believe regeneration is necessary to benefit the local community but only if they're all allowed to remain in the area once it is improved.
It’s actually in Battersea, I grew up in Badric Court flats and went to Falconbrooke primary and Junior school. Then went onto Wandsworth Boys school, so many years ago in the 70”s & 80’s.
i have to tell you all, once its all gated off, no one will be there, or no one will visited the place, this is the future, i see it being built around me for time, i grew up on patmore and lane.
I used to live in taht estate in penethorn house back in 1986 and go to the Falcon Brook primary school. I remmebr back then most of the afro carribean kids used to do rapping in the play ground and I used to call my father as man so every time i wrote a story about my family i used to use man except for father🤣🤣
‘They’ buy up everything and build these ‘new builds’ then move everyone out and move in ‘young professionals’ from outside London that buy these ‘affordable housing’ (more like unaffordable). Then the area changes and you start seeing coffee shops pop up and organic/vegan stuff. Crime drops so I guess it’s good
Imagine thinking that music influences your life, I grew up on the same estate and grew up on drill and grime. But I now go University and work in politics. Stop whitewashing Winstanley
I think you're misunderstanding the whole video, nobody is saying that your life is dictated by what genre you listen to but it is influenced heavily by the environment you're in and music is included in it. The fact that you do politics at uni doesn't have anything to do with it and neither does my race give some more thought to what you say, you are at uni after all.
