This started for me after Covid and the “100 day cough” which then went into constant throat clearing, and host of weird sensory feelings in the throat as described here and many other videos. Finally ended up at an ENT who looked at my dry throat and attributed that to every symptom I was having. Sent me to a Speech and Language Pathologist for “voice training”. I felt like we were treating the symptoms not the cause. I eventually suspected LPR but wonder if the vagus is still involved due to laryngeal sensory neuropathy. Wish they would have gotten into the neurogenic aspect and discussed the treatment of that. Good luck finding a doctor that understands that aspect and is willing to treat you with neuromodulators or Amitriptyline. Still seeking answers and help. Battle on everyone. Don’t give up!

I finally feel like I’m not alone, I’ve been suffering with this for 8 years it took 2 years to diagnose. Most doctors don’t know what LPR is and it was very frustrating. PPI never helps me but diet does help but never seems to go away. The lump feeling in the throat and the belching is the worst. I’m going to try the alginates and hope it helps. Thanks for the video, truly helpful 💜

This was a really insightful. Thank you. I live in the Netherlands in Europe, and unfortunately it seems like the doctors here have never heard of this. I've been suffering for years: the lump in my throat, constant clearing until my throat hurts, dry cough at night, constant burping, a chronic runny nose. I sing, not as a professional but as a hobby I get singing lessons, but my voice quickly gets hoarse. (I also have asthma, but that could be an entirely different thing.) My GP just prescribed a PPI (omeprazole), she even laughed at me when I once asked if it's possible I could have low stomach acid, and then suggested that the medicine might not work in this case. She made it sound like I was making it up, saying that she's never heard of a low stomach acid, and that that is not even possible. Finally after my insisting a lot I got a referral to see an ENT at the hospital. All they did was look down my throat, a small tube that went thru my nose. She concluded she could see my throat was scarred by acid reflux. And prescribed me more omeprazole (PPI). When I told the doctor I'd been taking it for months but it doesn't do anything for me, she just said then we'll double the dosage. So for another while I tried the double dosage but as before it did absolutely nothing for me. So I decided to stop taking it and search online for my own solution to the problem. I've really found your videos very helpful, I've been on the reflux diet for 2 years now. I've got it "under control" now, but it's by far cured. Every now and then I get a flare up.

But when I got all 3 of the other tests done, they came back positive. So I was put on heavy dose antibiotics! Hope you feel better.

OMG 😳 u just have described my life with LPR in Norway. This situation is so stressful that I am depressed…. Norwegian doctors sent me to a psychologist who believes that this pain in my neck, cos also I have a neck issue ( and I am so convinced that mainly is because the LPR) is a stress problem. In my first session with this man I told him about neck problems and LPR and he told me nope is the depression 😢 and I am still here sad trying to find a doctor or a treatment to be “normal” again, just like before the COVID

I am 78 and had it for years but did not know what it was for ages. I will not take Omeprazole but take apple cider vinegar each day. Also watch my diet. The terrible cough was the worst. acv Does help a bit. Another thing is as the lady says the Vagus nerve. Doctors here in the UK look at you with disdain if you mention that. Very well done. It's amazing how little most ENT and GI docs know about LPR. My concern with alginates is the sodium content although I use on occasion. As far as alkaline water, I've found spraying my throat may be helping with my voice. Seems that swallowing the water does not hit the voice box as Dr Koufman has discussed. I also do not like PPI's but I take them longer term because I have Barrett's.

I have stumbled upon this content, I can’t help but wonder if this is an answer to my Afib heart rhythms episodes that I have been living with and treating with “pill in the pocket” . In the past the afib has been triggered by brain freezes from drinking or eating cold items (cold water, ice cream, slushees etc). After speaking with multiple cardiologists they are always stumped since there aren’t structural issues and I am still in my 20s with a good diet.
I do sometimes get a little heart skip feeling or random raise in heart rate when I do have an unhealthy meal. Great content and going to do more research into this topic. THANK YOU!

Hypersensitivity can be caused by viral infections and most of LPR patients do have it. Look up for Sensor Larynghological Neuropathy, same as LPR symptoms.
And btw you can have hiatal hernia but many of them who do habe them are asymptomatic. My Gi told me that there are people with HH without GERD and those without HH and severe GERD.

Why don't healthcare professionals recommend natural remedies for LPR? I was originally prescribed Nexium BID, and then I tried Prevacid 1 per day. Both PPIs made my LPR worse. I struggled for years and then I tried Ginger supplements and also Quercetin supplements. Both of those natural remedies worked WAY BETTER than the PPIs. But I feel upset at this point because I suffered for almost 10 years without any doctor telling me about natural alternatives.

A simple solution for stopping the action pepsin has on the throat and vocal cords is to spray into your nose and throat a solution of 1:gallon of distilled water with 8 tablespoons of baking soda dissolved in it.. Keep in a spray bottle and use after every meal and any time you are having to clear your throat repeatedly. It took years for me to get properly diagnosed and I now have permanent damage to my vocal cords. I hope this helps some of the people suffering from this problem. My ENT doctor endorsed my regime.

I am in the process of trying to get to the root cause of my GERD that came on recently after years of a slow slugging digestion and a lot of stress. It seems to keep going to my throat. I completely lost my voice recently which terrified me and had flu symptoms too, I mistook this as asthma that I (think I have), then had what I thought was an asthma attack and call for paramedics. They said my lungs were clear and no one could figure this out. I also have a high fever with this sometimes. 4 weeks on since this has arrived in my system and it comes and goes so I never know if I'm better or not. I'm about to try a Naturapath after being given antibiotics, steroid and omerorazole by big pharma Docs. None of which will in my opinion help heal me safely. But I now wonder if this is GERD, post nasal drip, LPR, all of them? and did i ever even have asthma, or misdiagnosed. Hopefully all will be revealed soon.

Try turmeric tea as follows: two cardamoms, a small cinnamon stick about an inch Crush these and boil in water for about 2 to 3 minutes. Then add a pinch ( a quarter tea spoonful) of ground turmeric and boil for another minute. Add sugar and milk to taste. This drink is very easy to make and may heal the gut and the esophagus. It tastes good too.

From personal experience I have had LPR for 8yrs, I have tried every diet you can think of, done carnivore for 6 weeks as an elimination but still no difference, I have tried alkaline water, drinking just that and also using it as a spray, I have tried ginger, slippery elm, liqurice, pre and pro biotics, I have also tried PPIs and H2 blockers. Endescopy shows no inflammation but I do have a 2cm HH. Looks like this is weak and letting out pepsin gas, well that is my assumption. Tried hanging, breathing exercises and that one where you push in your stomach... Not sure what to try next, tempted to try alginates but they are very expensive. I did ask the Dr about surgery and they said its not an option as I dont have reflux. I also tried amilitriptoline and the alternative one too reducing the sensitivity in my throat, but also didnt work.

Most doctors see reflux damage, give you PPI and say avoid alcohol, coffee, etc. making you feel like there is know way of knowing or treating any root cause. This is a more comprehensive explanation than any paid dr visit. I’m a professional singer so any reflux is immediately noticeable in my voice which affects my ability to do my job to my best. Very frustrating. I’m now on a mission to read books and try diet and other solutions to fix the root cause and not the symptoms that come back as soon as you get off the ppi. I used to think it was normal to have hoarseness in the morning and thought excess phlegm was allergies. Now that I’ve done some research it all seems to come down to LPR and diet. Excited at the prospect of getting it hanlded or possibly even “cured” with vigilant diet management. If I have to eat twigs and water for the rest of my life but know that would cure it, it would be well worth it.

Hi! I have similar symptoms, hoarseness and throat clearing in the morning, but I also just had full blown laryngitis caused by nothing else but LPR! It was horrible and lasted 3 weeks, more than ever when due to a cold.
Have you figured out a solution? How helpful is the diet? I am changing how I eat too, but I am still in diagnostic stages so too early for any noticeable healing.

    • @daveblairmusic

@@annalimon8633 I read this book by Norman Robillard a.co/d/baIQLu7 and it was the most throughout with hypothesis and explanations as to root causes. The hypothesis is that certain bacteria to feed off maldigested or undigested complex carbs causing excessive gas which creates pressure that pushes open the LES resulting in pepsin’s going up into areas they shouldn’t. The diet eliminates or lowers these specific types of carbs. Well worth reading. There is also the popular Acid Watcher Diet book which I also read. This seems to focus more on a diet they treats the symptoms of acidic foods that activate the pepsin already in esophagus and other areas. I think both have their merits and do result in lessening of symptoms. Since Robillard’s diet addresses the root cause and not just symptoms I’m focusing on that but also being aware of avoiding acidic foods in the AWD as well. Also everyone is a bit different so after you get symptoms under control then you have to figure out which foods specifically aggregate it or not. Some foods that trigger some don’t trigger others and vice versa. But I’d suggest reading both those books and diets.
