While I enjoy hearing Adam talk in the shop, THIS is a great direction for new content. Adam is asking many of the detailed questions I would ask and his guests are providing appropriately detailed answers. Thanks to both parties for not dumbing it down.
I do agree, but honestly, his voice over manages to make it sound like an Ad, when it doesn't (and shouldn't) need to. It was the same with the great Royal Caribbean content. He seems to put his corporate voice on... IMO
Adam, even if you're not reading this, I want you to know that you have been so influential to so many people in positive ways, Including myself and my family, furthering our creativity and curiosity.
As someone who grew up with the first film and cartoon series, it's hard to describe how happy it makes me to know this franchise is properly revived. Afterlife was a wonderful film that made me laugh AND cry, but there being another movie set in the same universe and timeline really drives home that it's happening.
The practical effects are honestly amazing. I'm so glad that these videos are coming back. And I'm very very excited to see how the Mood Slime returns!!!
Fun Fact: On the set of Ghostbusters, Dan Aykroyd referred to the Slimer ghost as the ghost of John Belushi. Slimer's eating was based on Belushi's cafeteria scene in the movie Animal House.
It always surprises me how temporary the movie business is - the fact that they had to use film footage to get the behaviour of the slime right, rather than someone in the 80s writing down the original recipe so that future artists could replicate it and find an up to date alternative is incredible.
wonder if it's like "Hi honey, how was work?" "I made 50 gallons of slime!". "Nice, have some blancmange".. But is why I find these behind the scenes fascinating, so screen matching slime for colour and consistency.
Great to see Adam finally getting together with Doug! That’s a SFX dream team right there! Been waiting for these since last summer when I heard you’d visited the set!
Adam & Tested... Thank you SO much for these behind the scenes interviews. It's so rare to see the true heroes of films like Ghostbusters, namely the props and effects people. Without their skills and ingenuity amazing films like this would never see the light of day! And to all those unsung heroes... Thank you for your efforts 👍👍👍
My friend worked for the company that did the slime for the original. She made 55 gallons barrels full for months. Cool to see this focus on the new slime!
As a kid who grew up with the Ghostbusters, I love this. Working on a GB film would be so fantastic. Those guys must be having a blast. Working hard, no doubt, but it's gotta be fun.
so cool you got to go on set for this one too - your behind the scenes of the first of these reboots was incredible and got me so hyped. and that movie delivered!
This reminded me of when I was a kid, infatuated with movies. All I wanted to do was make props, special effects, miniatures. I loved everything about cameras and sets... Now I'm an adult working a horrific desk job. Success, I guess.
Methyl-cellulose. Big temperature window of stability, as well as flowability. Mix it just like they did and you’re golden. Also great for mucus, rick and Morty portal fluid, and turning any fruit juice into a nice sauce without the darkening from cooking down.
Fun stuff! I knew it’d be cellulose based but it’s interesting to see how they measure and mix it. I’d always thought the green colouring would be UV reactive glow-in-the-dark powder as it had a very similar colour and was freely available in joke shops in that era.
Seeing the sliming effect made me realize something: if a ghost passing through solid matter leaves ectoplasmic residue behind, wouldn’t it leave that residue in the open spaces inside the human body? Sinuses and mouth, but what about the lungs and stomach? How would the body react to such a foreign substance?
@@pixiniartsAgreed! It feels like practical effects add a little extra something or a nice randomness to scenes. If you're lucky you get a fun reaction from the actor and in this case Adam.
YESSS! I made my very own slime with potato flour - food coloring back in my Ghostbusters 2 slime gun inspiration in it was so beautiful when squirt on neighbours houses walls with our custom slime guns (water guns with little custom work for thick slime on nozzle etc) and wearing our Ghostbusters jump suits with name badges - yes we made them also ourselves - today I am 45 and still want to do all same but am smart enough to not do it - at least to my neighbour house walls \,,/
I was wondering why the back tube fired before the front one on Adam's test shot but now I realize that it was on backwards.... That's such a cool rig, I feel like I would have loved working on this movie. ❤😂
Would be cool to know the recipe (cornstarch?) for kids' parties etc... likely can find but his seems super safe. otherwise amazing to see it in real time. again as always... thanks adam.
Guar and xanthan gum are a lot easier to get in bulk and probably a fair bit cheaper. I've used guar gum a lot, and it is super mucus-like all on it's own. I also have a few tubs of xanthan gum that is used as water-compatible adhesives, though I've never watered it down into slime. Very tempting all of a sudden. 😁
@@C-M-E Xanthan gum is 100% what was used. An easily bought compound, much cheaper than sourcing the other stuff and buying in large bulk. It's used far and wide for mass-produced stuff -- if it was more expensive, other methyl-cellulose alternative stuff would be used. Plus it is mentioned in the video that it is food-safe. Damn, there's even a Babish video recreating McDonald's sweet and sour sauce, and using it as it was an ingredient they had listed. Vegan bakers all over youtube use it for anything that needs gluten. If you were working a production, using store-bought / proven food safe, for actors, would you choose something available to buy on a food aisle, or stuff needed to be specially bought from a chemical company?
That tank system is exactly how flamethrowers were/are made. Pressurized tanks used to drive the fuel out of the fueltank. Just add a hose and a nozzle with ignition instead of the bowl = flamethower.
Adam thank you again. I asked you a few weeks ago about Ghostbusters and i know your a giant fan like me. I was like wait Adam's not gonna pass up the new one . But low and behold you were waiting to realease it. Thank you for the awesome content on everything as always❤

He did a really good spot for Afterlife too!
Adam is a great interviewer.
I’ve been waiting impatiently since Adam told me at DragonCon that they got to go on set! Stay awesome!!
Hope you enjoyed it! More to come.
So glad these behind the scenes came back! Not only to see all the work and action going on for the movie but to see Adam's enthusiasm for everything!

I love how the slime pack just looks like a prop that would be in the film😂
I thought the same thing. Like a compressed mood slime launcher or something
plasem distribution system
We did that on purpose . One of the slime tubes came under the right arm like the wand would
Don,t be surprised if Haslab starts bringing out wearable versions of those
Had no idea this was filmed in the UK!!! Explains James Acaster😊👍👍👍👍 Its so amazing and brilliant to see PRACTICAL effects for GB! 👍👍
Glad to hear all the effort that was put into the slime research.
Fun Fact: On the set of Ghostbusters, Dan Aykroyd referred to the Slimer ghost as the ghost of John Belushi. Slimer's eating was based on Belushi's cafeteria scene in the movie Animal House.
Slimer's real name is Onionhead according to production notes...
I always thought that anyway
Belushi was meant to play Dr. Venkman at one point, but he tragically passed away before Ghostbusters was filmed.
@@_b_9895 His final film was Blues Brothers 1980 alongside Dan Aykroyd

It sounds like the fun has been restored to GhostBusters.

I loved the series that was done with Afterlife, so glad that this behind the scenes series is being done.
I like how the slime machine looks like an on screen prop itself.
When you think they could have settled on doing this as a purely cg simulation, I love that they did it practical.
@@pixiniartsAgreed! It feels like practical effects add a little extra something or a nice randomness to scenes. If you're lucky you get a fun reaction from the actor and in this case Adam.
Can confirm. 13 grams of xantham gum plus 1 litre of h2o = slime.

I'd guess it's Xanthan gum, which is used for like vegan baking, or in condiments.
