Shot put Monsters of the 80's , VERY RARE video of the best American muscle of the 1980. Including Laut, Wolf, Barnes, Crouser , Akins...this is not just a video THIS is what we lived!
Oldfield was a beast. He once raced the worlds best sprinters in a 40 yard sprint and outran them. Bowlegged and a smoker, he was the first to master the rotation. Every one else just followed......
Wow,I was a teammate of Kevin Akins, competed against Lehman. We spent 60% of our time lifting in Louie Simmons garage. That's why we looked so good! Seriously I think Brenner could have been the best if not for his injuries.
One, post it ( your throw) and try to get a coach or some vids you and someone else can watch and train coach each other on. The Throws are so much visual to explain and teach, it's difficult to read about it and do. If you got the will, the way will happen.
Stop the hate! Come on no matter if any of those(not just randy) used steroids it doesnt means that steroid will make u a better thrower, that relays on the capability of each thrower to improve everyday and learn or evole his own way to do the technique, what is a thrower without technique?? Steroids or not is just a bunch of brute/useless mass.
I would almost be willing to say that Laut's technique was better than Barnes' for the sake of how far he threw and how much smaller he was than Randy. Does anyone agree with me on this one?
Kevin Akins, a product of Webster Shroeder High School in Webster NY s suburb of Rochester. Second strongest athlete on the Ohio State Football team as a freshman. He was standing close to Woody Hayes when Coach Hayes struck that opposing payer I threw against him in high school at indoor meets at the University of Rochester and at GRTC track meets at Rochester Institute of Technology. I do not think my 50 ft puts in high school nor my 48 foot puts after ever had him nervous.
@irinmar Steroids don't fix technique. These guys still put in a ridiculous amount of time to perfect their throws and maximize their bodily potentials. Steroids or not, that's something that deserves respect.
6:19, he throws a foul in this one and was known for crazy long Upper 70s training throws. Still......The Farthest American Thrower to this date and still holds a WR.
Komar was the real deal. After he won the 72 olympic title all the lads went on the lash and took Komar with them. . Fuerbach grabbed hold of two sink bowels in the hotel toilets and ripped them off of the wall. Komar, enraged, grabbed a four set of full height urinals and did the same. Destroyed the facility. Capes told me that. Komar was a regular visitor to his local mental hospital for treatment. He died in a car crash a few years later.
really liked seeing Dean Crouser! Sam and Ryan had to learn it from somewhere!

This was at Ohio State I presume ; I remember Lehman also at Illinois.

Great video, RIP my old friend Dave Laut.
70footer - Another great job!

Throwers definitely don’t look like this anymore, crazy huh?

Best shot put video I have ever seen.

Hey 70footer I must say that this is a fantastic video and this is extremely helpful but i have to ask... where's Ulf
Renaissance Man read the description, they're all Americans
Thanks for the video. I have seen a lot of these throwers throw, but i didn't know who they were. Thanks for putting a name on some faces.

Overstepped on the first step...never had a chance
Great video one thing I did notice is that every spinner had very similar technique.
bem legal!
@TheWillemik
I'm throwing in high school right now. Should I get a pair of the distance runners' shorts and throw in those?
whatever you're comfortable in..I used warmups for a long time since the shot was early in the am usually.
dieselman2000 you replied about 7 years too late
@@daleftuprightatsoldierfield -absolutely running shorts. 11 years too late is just right for fashion return!
Pass the roids...the reason Matson retired in 1972...roid monsters. Win at any cost.
Austin Perry, EXACTLY!!! Strength means nothing if your form is bad and you have not built up enough torque to explode through the power position.
@jeanniem7 hes my dad lmfao
God those were fun days. Aside from Oldfield, the two next craziest monsters from that bunch was Gregg Tafrallis and Mike Smith...believe it.

Fantastic Great Job Rob
Too much steriods. The weightlifting records from that era have been repealed - why not the shot put records?
they have all been broken except O's 75'?
GLIDE FTW
Song?
Dean Crouser? Is he related to Ryan Crouser?
yes, Dean is Ryans Uncle ...you can see their technique resemblance
name of the song?
let it go - Def Leppard
+70footer thx
Incredible video!
