Part 15 Throughout the battles on this world, it had become very clear to him that Firalis was dying. Even if the world was retaken, it would never again be as it had been, but none of that mattered. The orks had drawn blood, and Donatio could never forgive the beasts for the damage they had done in these past days. Firalis would die, the only thing that had changed was the hand that wielded the sword. The battle in Donatio's path would simply decide whether its people died with the world, and for the Lord-Captain of the 6th, it was more than a matter of simple duty to see to it that they survived. He wanted to lord it over the orks, to show the greenskins how foolish it had been to come to this world and challenge him and his brothers. He would succeed, simply because that meant the beasts would fail. He would crush them, and he would do so quickly. As such, 6th company had abandoned any semblance of stealth and subtlety. They were burning their way towards their target, leaving nothing but scorched ruins in their wake. It made 6th quite easy to follow, luring in any wandering ork with the promise of a worthy fight. What the beasts did not know was that none of these pursuers ever made it to their intended prey. The executioners were on their heels, and whatever 6th had left standing, only remained standing for as long as they had not yet passed by it. The two groups would coordinate their strike on the new prison camp together, in an effort to free the human population of the world. Both groups were keenly aware that it was a trap set by the beasts to lure them in. Both groups did not care. Every time the beasts tried to spring an ambush, they found that 6th was far better prepared for them than they had thought. They had expected to catch their prey unaware, ready for the slaughter. Instead, they had found the Blades more akin to a monster with its fangs bared at them, ready to strike at any moment. And they did strike. Over and over again until they reached the perimeter defences of the prison camp, they left a trail of mangled corpses , a challenge that no ork could ever ignore. Their advance had not gone unnoticed, of course. The prison camp was well defended, and the orks had made sure to be ready for when the 6th hit, and to their credit, they were prepared for the frontal assault that the company would no doubt launch. They were not ready for the fact that the executioners had overtaken 6th company before arrival, however. And the High-Executioner made sure that when they finally did arrive, the orks were ready for neither group. Explosives were planted under defence emplacements, power to shields and bigger cannons was cut, officers were disposed of while no one was looking. All in all, their presence was more felt than seen, but it hung over the greenskins like an oppressive shadow that could kill at any second. And the fear of that shadow made them sloppy. They rushed the tasks given to them to rejoin the group as soon as they could, and even suspected others of their own kind of the sabotage and murders. More and more, their eyes turned towards their own lines, to observe the camp rather than the perimeter around it. They were so caught up in Hadrian's mind games, that they did not notice the storm of blood and fire when it hit their lines at first. The fact that right after 6th company made their move, the ammunition storages they had been stockpiling went up in flames did not help them overcome their panic either. One of the beasts had the wits about him to organise some form of retreat towards the camp itself, to try and warn the others of the coming battle. It had gathered a group of other orks around it when it made a mad dash away from the perimeter defences. As the distance to the slaughter grew, the scope of the massacre became much more visible to them. Where once had been a ramshackle looking, but organised defence line, now there were just flames. The beast was quite certain the others in the camp had seen the fire, after all there was no way they could have missed it as the glow reached all the way to the other side of the camp, but they would need to mount a quick defence, trying to stop the enemy in their tracks for long enough so that reinforcements could arrive. And that was what his group was for. If only it could hold out, the ork was quite certain that it would be noticed, that it would build a reputation. The greenskin would start its rise to power here. Or that was what the clever ork intended, until it stopped running. Fear gripped its heart as it looked in front of the group it had made. The ork even looked away and then back again to make sure it had not been mistaken, but there was no doubt about it. Before them, in the flickering light caused by the inferno behind them, stood a single shadow that did not move. Normally, a group of several dozen orks would not fear a lone Astartes, but rather welcome the challenge instead. But something in the black eyes of the High-Executioner made them freeze up, terrified of the thing that stood before them. They seemed to shrink as Hadrian walked towards them, and as he took his second step, the first of the beasts broke and ran. They didn't get far, of course, as the situation behind them wasn't much better. Donatio had been far less quiet in his approach, but in their stunned fear, the orks had not noticed the Lord of the 6th. Now those that ran back were torn apart by his powerfist as it struck amongst them, sowing death wherever it landed. It was then the clever beast realised that they were not going to survive. If they were to win time, they would have to do it here and now, stuck between the cold killing frenzy of the High-Executioner and the burning rage of the 6th Lord-Captain. It bellowed a crude warcry, taken up by a few of its companions, and charged forward. For a moment, it thought they could still make it, united as they were in that moment, and Hadrian let it think that for a moment, before crushing that hope with a simple flick of his wrist. The shadows were most definitely moving now, as they tore the orks apart, while behind them the giant armoured form of Donatio moved in a whirlwind of blood. The last thing the clever ork saw was a flash of blue sparks as Hadrian's claws tore its head off. Satisfied with their slaughter, the two Blades gave each other a nod, before turning towards the main camp. Donatio removed his helmet to feel the heat of the fires for a moment, which reached all the way to where the two men stood, and Hadrian saw the mad glint in his eyes, which the man was known for. Then Donatio turned towards his brother "My men are still sweeping the perimeter defences, making sure nothing survived our assault." Hadrian nodded for a moment "I'll tell my executioners to assist them, but the orks in the main camp will be aware of our attack by now. The more time we give them, the more they will dig in." Donatio's face broke into a smirk, that would have fitted the face of a daemon "I never said we should keep them waiting." Hadrian simply shrugged "Just the two of us then? Gross overkill if you ask me, but we didn't come here to give the orks a fighting chance anyways." Both men laughed at this for a moment, not so much at the remark as they laughed for the battle to come. They would both relish the bloodshed to come in the coming hours. They would both relish the retribution they were about to enact.

As the trio of blue clad marines walked the deserted plains of this broken planet they tried to pinpoint the signals location but could find nothing. As they continued one of the trio, a Rubric marine spoke up, "It must be here father could not have been mistaken." The leader of the company, a sorcerer named Vistario tried to sense the signals origin but all he could sense was the shadow of death though he could not discern why. They continued through the barren valley until they came across a shattered remnant of the old days of the Great Crusade, A dreadnought, its purple armor glistened in the pale sunlight. As they approached the broken warrior, they could feel an energy growing in the air and soon saw the eyes of the Dreadnought activate, the old marine had awakened. As they stood in shock the Dreadnought propped himself on the stump of his missing leg and stared at the followers of Magnus the Red. Vistario was the first to speak, "We are The Followers of Magnus, who do you serve?" The Dreadnought continued to stare at the Marines and finally it's broken hollow voice rang out, "I see through your words, I am not disarmed!" As the Dreadnought spoke the marines began to communicate through the warp, the youngest spoke first, "Even as damaged as it is, this dreadnought poses a threat to us, we need to tread carefully." Vistario moved towards the dreadnought to ask for his name again but before he could get a word out the dreadnought spoke again. "You are not the ones I seek, where is the Prodigal son." As these words were spoken a melodic laugh echoed throughout the field. The cluster of marines watched as a purple abomination slithered towards them. Fulgrim, the fallen son of the Emperor approached the Marines his half snake have demon body moved with a ghostly elegance that only a Primarch could manage, his multiple arms each holding a twisted and wicked knife. Suddenly Rylanor's voice boomed through the clearing, "At last Fulgrim you have come to me abomination." Fulgrim responded with his soothing yet menacing voice. "So says the pile of rusted metal and stagnation, you must have conjured up a riveting speech for me sooooo let me hear it." his voice oozed with an almost acidic like honesty and malice combined. Rylanor responded with a proud yet wavering statement, "I have no words to speak for I have a way to stop you for I have a Virus Bomb!" Fulgrim's eyes widened in shock and a guttural "NOOO!" was heard by the marines. As Rylanor activated the bomb one of Vistario’s raptoraes stopped the bomb from exploding though the strain of the monumental task was plastered on his face. Vistario aided his brother by giving him what strength he could but it was only slowing the inevitable. From Vistarios’s peripheral sight he could see Rylanor once seemingly old and broken rise to meet his fallen father, no longer was Rylanor weak or helpless he stood as a righteous being of defiance against Fulgrim. Rylanor’s autocannon whirled ready to gun the Primarchs down but Fulgrim was faster, he rushed forward at a blindingly fast speed caught the autocannon and ripped it off of the dreadnought. He then swung his mighty sword and ripped a gaping hole in the chassis of the Ancient of Rites. Rylanor roared in fury screaming with the might of the thousands of marines who had died on the planet. “You can never be forgiven for the things you have done, so it falls to my hands to end the prodigal son.” Fulgrim retorted with cutting words of his own, “Rylanor, join me, think of all of the glories we could accomplish together.” Rylanor, disgusted replied, “That you still think I seek any glory betrays the true blindness that has overcome you! I recall the virtues I stood for, I recall the struggles and the things that we have done I will not be deterred from my vengeance, I remember the lessons passed down to the sons!” “I am one of the Emperor’s children I am Rylanor and I am the Ancient of Rites, I reject you forever and always Fulgrim! To strike you down I’ve waited for a million nights!” After he had spoken Rylanor tried to slam his power fist, still clutching the virus bomb, however Fulgrim drew a knife and with lightning fast speed cut the wires and servos making Rylanor’s arm go limp he then laughed as he ripped open a bigger hole in his chassis and stuck his hand in, soon after he laughed again saying, “There you are...I can remake you, give you flesh again so that you may serve me again.” As he finished speaking he ripped out Rylanor from his dreadnought, and though he was but a mass of broken flesh, fluids and wires the horror he felt was apparent. As Vistario watched on he realized the true horrors of Chaos and he felt tainted as if he were sick from Nurgle’s rot, his brothers asked what they should do but Vistario had already made his choice he saw Rylanor the last survivor of The Emperor’s Children and found in his example not only a man willing to die but a man who beyond any doubt had shown what it meant to be a space marine. He turned towards Fulgrim his voice filled with the same fury and rage that had witnessed Rylanor stand true to the Emperor’s will against Fulgrim. “Fulgrim, Rylanor deserves better than you, Rylanor deserves better than all of us.” And with those final words Vistario raised his bolted and shot the Raptorae, and as the virus bomb exploded the marines all died with the idea that they had done their duty. And once more Isstvan 3 burned. Fulgrim stood in the remains of the field his body had suffered no mortal blow but as he contemplated Rylanor’s last stand he felt his pride would never fully recover from these crushing blows.

Part 15
Throughout the battles on this world, it had become very clear to him that Firalis was dying.
Even if the world was retaken, it would never again be as it had been, but none of that mattered.
The orks had drawn blood, and Donatio could never forgive the beasts for the damage they had done in these past days.
Firalis would die, the only thing that had changed was the hand that wielded the sword.
The battle in Donatio's path would simply decide whether its people died with the world, and for the Lord-Captain of the 6th, it was more than a matter of simple duty to see to it that they survived.
He wanted to lord it over the orks, to show the greenskins how foolish it had been to come to this world and challenge him and his brothers.
He would succeed, simply because that meant the beasts would fail. He would crush them, and he would do so quickly.
As such, 6th company had abandoned any semblance of stealth and subtlety. They were burning their way towards their target, leaving nothing but scorched ruins in their wake.
It made 6th quite easy to follow, luring in any wandering ork with the promise of a worthy fight.
What the beasts did not know was that none of these pursuers ever made it to their intended prey. The executioners were on their heels, and whatever 6th had left standing, only remained standing for as long as they had not yet passed by it.
The two groups would coordinate their strike on the new prison camp together, in an effort to free the human population of the world.
Both groups were keenly aware that it was a trap set by the beasts to lure them in.
Both groups did not care.
Every time the beasts tried to spring an ambush, they found that 6th was far better prepared for them than they had thought. They had expected to catch their prey unaware, ready for the slaughter.
Instead, they had found the Blades more akin to a monster with its fangs bared at them, ready to strike at any moment.
And they did strike. Over and over again until they reached the perimeter defences of the prison camp, they left a trail of mangled corpses , a challenge that no ork could ever ignore.
Their advance had not gone unnoticed, of course. The prison camp was well defended, and the orks had made sure to be ready for when the 6th hit, and to their credit, they were prepared for the frontal assault that the company would no doubt launch.
They were not ready for the fact that the executioners had overtaken 6th company before arrival, however.
And the High-Executioner made sure that when they finally did arrive, the orks were ready for neither group.
Explosives were planted under defence emplacements, power to shields and bigger cannons was cut, officers were disposed of while no one was looking. All in all, their presence was more felt than seen, but it hung over the greenskins like an oppressive shadow that could kill at any second.
And the fear of that shadow made them sloppy. They rushed the tasks given to them to rejoin the group as soon as they could, and even suspected others of their own kind of the sabotage and murders.
More and more, their eyes turned towards their own lines, to observe the camp rather than the perimeter around it.
They were so caught up in Hadrian's mind games, that they did not notice the storm of blood and fire when it hit their lines at first.
The fact that right after 6th company made their move, the ammunition storages they had been stockpiling went up in flames did not help them overcome their panic either.
One of the beasts had the wits about him to organise some form of retreat towards the camp itself, to try and warn the others of the coming battle. It had gathered a group of other orks around it when it made a mad dash away from the perimeter defences. As the distance to the slaughter grew, the scope of the massacre became much more visible to them.
Where once had been a ramshackle looking, but organised defence line, now there were just flames. The beast was quite certain the others in the camp had seen the fire, after all there was no way they could have missed it as the glow reached all the way to the other side of the camp, but they would need to mount a quick defence, trying to stop the enemy in their tracks for long enough so that reinforcements could arrive.
And that was what his group was for. If only it could hold out, the ork was quite certain that it would be noticed, that it would build a reputation. The greenskin would start its rise to power here.
Or that was what the clever ork intended, until it stopped running.
Fear gripped its heart as it looked in front of the group it had made. The ork even looked away and then back again to make sure it had not been mistaken, but there was no doubt about it.
Before them, in the flickering light caused by the inferno behind them, stood a single shadow that did not move.
Normally, a group of several dozen orks would not fear a lone Astartes, but rather welcome the challenge instead.
But something in the black eyes of the High-Executioner made them freeze up, terrified of the thing that stood before them.
They seemed to shrink as Hadrian walked towards them, and as he took his second step, the first of the beasts broke and ran.
They didn't get far, of course, as the situation behind them wasn't much better.
Donatio had been far less quiet in his approach, but in their stunned fear, the orks had not noticed the Lord of the 6th.
Now those that ran back were torn apart by his powerfist as it struck amongst them, sowing death wherever it landed.
It was then the clever beast realised that they were not going to survive. If they were to win time, they would have to do it here and now, stuck between the cold killing frenzy of the High-Executioner and the burning rage of the 6th Lord-Captain.
It bellowed a crude warcry, taken up by a few of its companions, and charged forward.
For a moment, it thought they could still make it, united as they were in that moment, and Hadrian let it think that for a moment, before crushing that hope with a simple flick of his wrist.
The shadows were most definitely moving now, as they tore the orks apart, while behind them the giant armoured form of Donatio moved in a whirlwind of blood.
The last thing the clever ork saw was a flash of blue sparks as Hadrian's claws tore its head off.
Satisfied with their slaughter, the two Blades gave each other a nod, before turning towards the main camp.
Donatio removed his helmet to feel the heat of the fires for a moment, which reached all the way to where the two men stood, and Hadrian saw the mad glint in his eyes, which the man was known for.
Then Donatio turned towards his brother "My men are still sweeping the perimeter defences, making sure nothing survived our assault."
Hadrian nodded for a moment "I'll tell my executioners to assist them, but the orks in the main camp will be aware of our attack by now. The more time we give them, the more they will dig in."
Donatio's face broke into a smirk, that would have fitted the face of a daemon "I never said we should keep them waiting."
Hadrian simply shrugged "Just the two of us then? Gross overkill if you ask me, but we didn't come here to give the orks a fighting chance anyways."
Both men laughed at this for a moment, not so much at the remark as they laughed for the battle to come.
They would both relish the bloodshed to come in the coming hours.
They would both relish the retribution they were about to enact.

As the trio of blue clad marines walked the deserted plains of this broken planet they tried to pinpoint the signals location but could find nothing. As they continued one of the trio, a Rubric marine spoke up, "It must be here father could not have been mistaken." The leader of the company, a sorcerer named Vistario tried to sense the signals origin but all he could sense was the shadow of death though he could not discern why. They continued through the barren valley until they came across a shattered remnant of the old days of the Great Crusade, A dreadnought, its purple armor glistened in the pale sunlight. As they approached the broken warrior, they could feel an energy growing in the air and soon saw the eyes of the Dreadnought activate, the old marine had awakened. As they stood in shock the Dreadnought propped himself on the stump of his missing leg and stared at the followers of Magnus the Red. Vistario was the first to speak, "We are The Followers of Magnus, who do you serve?" The Dreadnought continued to stare at the Marines and finally it's broken hollow voice rang out, "I see through your words, I am not disarmed!" As the Dreadnought spoke the marines began to communicate through the warp, the youngest spoke first, "Even as damaged as it is, this dreadnought poses a threat to us, we need to tread carefully." Vistario moved towards the dreadnought to ask for his name again but before he could get a word out the dreadnought spoke again. "You are not the ones I seek, where is the Prodigal son." As these words were spoken a melodic laugh echoed throughout the field. The cluster of marines watched as a purple abomination slithered towards them. Fulgrim, the fallen son of the Emperor approached the Marines his half snake have demon body moved with a ghostly elegance that only a Primarch could manage, his multiple arms each holding a twisted and wicked knife. Suddenly Rylanor's voice boomed through the clearing, "At last Fulgrim you have come to me abomination." Fulgrim responded with his soothing yet menacing voice. "So says the pile of rusted metal and stagnation, you must have conjured up a riveting speech for me sooooo let me hear it." his voice oozed with an almost acidic like honesty and malice combined. Rylanor responded with a proud yet wavering statement, "I have no words to speak for I have a way to stop you for I have a Virus Bomb!" Fulgrim's eyes widened in shock and a guttural "NOOO!" was heard by the marines. As Rylanor activated the bomb one of Vistario’s raptoraes stopped the bomb from exploding though the strain of the monumental task was plastered on his face. Vistario aided his brother by giving him what strength he could but it was only slowing the inevitable. From Vistarios’s peripheral sight he could see Rylanor once seemingly old and broken rise to meet his fallen father, no longer was Rylanor weak or helpless he stood as a righteous being of defiance against Fulgrim. Rylanor’s autocannon whirled ready to gun the Primarchs down but Fulgrim was faster, he rushed forward at a blindingly fast speed caught the autocannon and ripped it off of the dreadnought. He then swung his mighty sword and ripped a gaping hole in the chassis of the Ancient of Rites. Rylanor roared in fury screaming with the might of the thousands of marines who had died on the planet. “You can never be forgiven for the things you have done, so it falls to my hands to end the prodigal son.” Fulgrim retorted with cutting words of his own, “Rylanor, join me, think of all of the glories we could accomplish together.” Rylanor, disgusted replied, “That you still think I seek any glory betrays the true blindness that has overcome you! I recall the virtues I stood for, I recall the struggles and the things that we have done I will not be deterred from my vengeance, I remember the lessons passed down to the sons!” “I am one of the Emperor’s children I am Rylanor and I am the Ancient of Rites, I reject you forever and always Fulgrim! To strike you down I’ve waited for a million nights!” After he had spoken Rylanor tried to slam his power fist, still clutching the virus bomb, however Fulgrim drew a knife and with lightning fast speed cut the wires and servos making Rylanor’s arm go limp he then laughed as he ripped open a bigger hole in his chassis and stuck his hand in, soon after he laughed again saying, “There you are...I can remake you, give you flesh again so that you may serve me again.” As he finished speaking he ripped out Rylanor from his dreadnought, and though he was but a mass of broken flesh, fluids and wires the horror he felt was apparent. As Vistario watched on he realized the true horrors of Chaos and he felt tainted as if he were sick from Nurgle’s rot, his brothers asked what they should do but Vistario had already made his choice he saw Rylanor the last survivor of The Emperor’s Children and found in his example not only a man willing to die but a man who beyond any doubt had shown what it meant to be a space marine. He turned towards Fulgrim his voice filled with the same fury and rage that had witnessed Rylanor stand true to the Emperor’s will against Fulgrim. “Fulgrim, Rylanor deserves better than you, Rylanor deserves better than all of us.” And with those final words Vistario raised his bolted and shot the Raptorae, and as the virus bomb exploded the marines all died with the idea that they had done their duty. And once more Isstvan 3 burned. Fulgrim stood in the remains of the field his body had suffered no mortal blow but as he contemplated Rylanor’s last stand he felt his pride would never fully recover from these crushing blows.
this is my first attempt at writing like this so any feedback good or bad would be appreciated.
