How 24/7 Palliative and end of life care can help alleviate system pressures - Seminar 1

  • An online seminar for Integrated Care Boards and Healthcare Commissioners that explores the role of 24/7 palliative and end of life care in delivering improved outcomes for patients and the wider system.
    Chaired by Ian Smith (Chair, Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board), hear from Professor Katherine Sleeman (Laing Galazka Chair in Palliative Care, The Cicely Saunders Institute at King’s College London) who presents her research into the challenges people face in accessing services outside of traditional office hours in many parts of the country and the challenges this creates - both for patients and the system.
    The seminar focuses in on practice and on what works locally. The following clinicians showcase their innovative work in this area, including:
    • Michelle Knight (Matron in Palliative Medicine/Registered Manager) and Philippa Munk (Clinical Nurse Specialist) from Cambridgeshire and Peterborough’s Integrated Care System Palliative Care Hub, operated by Arthur Rank Hospice in partnership the East of England Ambulance Service
    • Dr Sarah Holmes (Chief Medical Officer, Marie Curie) from the Reactive Emergency Assessment and Community Team based at Bradford Royal Infirmary
