    Thanks Dave. You helped confirm my decision to go with a "non well known" brand set of pickups and they sound outstanding.

    Got the Dirty Torque/Blues Engine combination in my ESP LTD EC-256 and I love the versatility that combination gives me. If I could keep a single guitar only this would be it. Can easily go from sweet bluesy tones to classic rock, hard rock, classic metal, NWOBHM - which is exactly what I listen to and aim to play. As this thing has become my favourite guitar I'm going to upgrade this thing little by little.

      I'm into same still of music, liked your suggestion - have you Dirty Torque in Bridge, and Blues Engine Neck? Or wait around? Like to know please as want to get such tone.
      Thanks in advance 🙏

    I was hoping for some clean tones!!! My daughter wants a new guitar, so we're about to start a scratch guitar build for her, and use the dirty torque pups for it. She hasn't crossed over to the "dark side" yet, but these pups might change her mind!

    I've met Doug 4 different times over the years. Dude is cool as fuck. And his tone is awesome. The second time I seen him was about 3 yrs after meeting him the first time and he actually remembered me and recognized me in the first row. He gave me a pick and I asked him to sign it. He put it in his mouth and bit it. He said now you have my dental signature better than a pin signature right. And I laughed. Definitely got a thumbs up for this video. Definitely going to order a bridge for my 59 Les Paul.

      I've not had the good fortune to actually meet him properly, but at the end of their concert in Newport,South Wales, in December 2011, he actually handed me his guitar (I was in the front),!! I was wondering how I'd sneak it out, when a roadie came over and gently took it back....nice experience to hold 1 of his les paul guitars though. Oh, and i managed to catch a plectrum he threw as well !! Pure luck.Hope to meet him in the future.

    I use a Seymour Duncan SH14 Custom 5 in my main gigging guitar, it's a beast-it's kind of a PAF with an Alnico 5, seems similar to the Dirty Torque.

    For anyone interested I have the Dirty Torque bridge and two irongear jailhouse rails middle and neck fitted to a Fender Squire Showmaster HSS and AWESOME is the only way to describe it!! The DT cleans up nice on lower setting and really sings any growls with overdrive/gain, add the middle rail for some creaminess and chime, just the middle for bluesy chime, middle and neck for richer blues and neck for sweet chocolatey blues. The jailhouse rails ( double railed single coil sized humbuckers) look hot and can be if you wind them up but the tone they produce is sublime and without the crunchiness the blues engines seem to have even at low volume. Got myself a Super Strat with attitude. I highly recommend this combination!!

    • @michaellilley6725
      @michaellilley6725 7 років тому

      Pedro Morales Thank you very much for your reply and if my advice helped you choose the same setup, then I feel both humbled and honoured. I was truly fortunate, I was looking for a guitar to upgrade when I found the showmaster on e-bay, it had already been modded with the dirty torque and jailhouse rails. Dave's video helped me appreciate the DT and as I had never heard of Irongear I also found one video on UA-cam of the JHR in the neck and thought it sounded rich and creamy. I also looked at the blues engine but although I loved the tone it just seemed so crunchy, Honestly I couldn't be happier, both pickups complement each other so well and the tone is simply incredible. Let me know how you get on with your partscaster. Kind regards...Michael...

      Thanks Michael. Indeed Dave made me know about the Irongear pickups, and I think that the choice you made is exactly what I want. Out from home for Christmas now, but I will try to finish the project in January. I think is going to be great. Your positive comments makes me be more confident about my choice, as I did not see anyone on youtube with that combination, that was the one I had in mind. Best regards.

    the Dirty Torque and Blues Engine get a lot of high praise around various forums. It says one Irongears website that is similar to the Hot Slag. I'm looking to up the stock pups on my Epiphone explorer goth so the question is what the difference between them, I see the Dirty Torque is marketed as a premium pickup whatever that means. GJ on review!

    • @DaveBarlowGuitar
      @DaveBarlowGuitar  7 років тому

      I have both sets of pickups and to my mind the Hot slag has less bottom end to it so is more defined pickup, The Torque just blew me away, it has everything in abundance and a little more compression.

    Hey Dave, that's my kind of playing!! The pups sound just superb, since I saw your previous video about Iron Gear I'm like a child in a sweet shop, cant make my mind up, but I think this video has done it for me, love those harmonics and sustain. Can you tell me what amp your using cos that sounds brill. I'd love to see your band I bet its a blast, those licks take me back, none of that pinky diddling wollop, just good old grit. Love It!!

    Sounds great and I love to buy a set but my concerns are. the bridge is not potted and I play on high volume high gain live so normally you get some microphonics sqeals whiich I do not like and want,is this a problem with this ? and does it clean up fairly withou getting compressed ? In youre opinion, even with high gain ,is de sounf still open in the room or rather compressed. UA-cam compresses everything so its hard to say on the clip

    • @DaveBarlowGuitar
      @DaveBarlowGuitar  6 років тому

      Well in the video I tell you :) I was just using an ID core practice amp 20 watt, its a bit compressed but at low levels sounds quite good, they sound pretty bad if you crank them though as speakers are crap. These pickups sound great with any saturated amp.

    Super Dave glad you like Entwistle, Alan Entwistle is imho genius , i put His work above 90+% of boutique and big brands companies any time ☺...His pickups are imho arguably one of the best pickups up to 100e ( i would say above that to lol but people might think i'm crazy) ..There are HV58 Plus is hotter then the one you have one around 12k but with same vintage sound...HV 58 you have is imho great for dirty old school sound, better pickups then other who tray to achieve that Gibi sound. Did recommend to my friend Dark star Neodymium and for last year or so He puts them in every guitar...For people who like to bend strings a lot Nemesis AFG is super due to its combinations alnico+ceramic and above all blade aka rail pole on 1 half..pickups with that ''blade'' don't loose power during string bending like usual ones do, anyhow that is already engineering stuff ...Thx for all videos Dave, like them a lot, great informations...and of course i do share them often ☺...cheers.
