      Track's always a bit faster in the morning isn't it though, morning dew giving a bit of extra grip before it's blown to pieces throughout the day before the top 10 or so elites come down.

      @@JMcKaySV It’s not “always” faster in the morning, if it pours rain then it’s obviously not “always” going to be faster… He layed down a ripper, just shaddap and appreciate it.

      In all fairness, that track got worked and thrashed later in the day, so Jackson definitely had an advantage with the time. Of course, he was able to take advantage of that slightly faster track because he is so skilled.

      @@bigwave7207 he still thrashed Loris' qualifying time by 3 seconds... I've seen some raw clip from a key section where only Jackson and Gwin hit it smoothly where they sort of glided through it doing a double after a drop while pumping so hard where everyone hit it differently. They sort of find a way to make the large braking bumps as rollers. Lol

    Such a relaxed rider, the bike does all the work, and boy does he know where to get the bike to work for him. He's a line choice guru. The envelope has been extended in DH

    Jw what the point of the countdown is if every rider goes as soon as it’s “..5..”?? Lol.. might as well just say “go whenever you’re ready”
    Edit: I’m just getting into mtb and I’ve been watching a lot of DH races so honest question 😅

    • @HannesSchmiderer
      @HannesSchmiderer 2 роки тому +5

      Every rider has a start time. But you are allowed to start within a range around your start time. And this range starts at 5 seconds before the start time. The countdown counts to your start time so they are allowed to start when the countdown is at 5. "Go whenever you're ready" would not make much sense. Of course there must be a rule on when to start. Mainly to make sure there is enough delay between two riders so that's unlikely that a faster rider catches a slower one. On races at national level it could be that in qualification you might start behind a slower rider so you might start a bit later and not right at 5 to lower the chance of catching him. But if this is very unlikely you would start right away at 5 and not waste any time to get even more nervous ;)

      @@thebono2415 plenty of other sports use the same timing methods like dh skiing, whitewater slalom at the bigger races. I remember having to trigger a timing wand at a race back in the early 90s, the new timing systems are much better.
