@@Donjonneau that's a bit rosey. It's not a happy song by any means. It's a confrontation with death and the finality. And it's blunt. Given what the guys were doing to themselves at this time, and where Layne would ultimately end up, it's a grim and prophetic song. But very powerful.
For real! I was just thinking that. Layne was so talented and awesome. He looked good with any hairdo, outfit...everything. I love you Layne. You were something special
Hoping for something like AIC, but female lead singer. I want to be able to sing like layne, but my voice could never get even close to that range. Female lead? Possibly!!
Staley is the greatest singer I've ever heard. Doesn't matter what music genre, what era, what musical influence. This man's voice transcends humanity.
He is the greatest. I hear him all the time. Constantly in the air-and when I am asleep. And no I’m not schizophrenic. No Staley was one of a kind. The only kind. And. I have two boys. So I’m not being biased. Staley. Fucking Layne Staley is paramount. Period.
@@muccmaster hell no. Layne is superior. Open your ear drums. Like Chris just yells into the mic. One voice all the time. Staley is far more gifted and talent. And better looking too.
Same here. I really didn't get into AIC until 1997-1998, and by that time they'd already quit touring due to Layne's addiction. Never got to see them live but Layne has become my favourite singer of all time.
"I feel so alone, gonna end up a big ol' pile of them bones" really hits hard. My best friend died 3 years ago, and I still cry about it to this day. I went looking for a new one, but she threw me under the bus, and now I have a best friend who's a freshman, meanwhile I'm in 8th grade. We have different lunch hours, so I won't be able to see her. I really do feel so alone.
Layne was absolutely the best 'grunge' vocalist - Jerry was probably close behind Chris Cornell, Mark Flanagan etc ( as a vocalist )AIC was stacked with talent. Most people don't hear or recognize how good Jerry's vocals are, because Layne was such a presence.
@@joelfortenberry7865Comparing Mark Lanegan to Chris Cornell is mind boggling. Chris had an unstable voice live, but in the studio he was unmatched. Mark Lanegan is a charismatic frontman, he has amazing music, but he's a worse vocalist than Cobain.
For a genre of music full of harmonized electric guitars and screaming vocals, it's a shame that so very few metal bands even tried harmonizing their vocals. Okay, Dave Mustaine has an excuse to sit that one out but other bands really should have stepped their vocal game up.
Indeed god bless Layne but Alice in chains is Jerry Cantrells baby. If it was no Jerry then it definitely would be no chains. Also RIP Mike Starr don’t forget him.
This is a bit of an odd compliment but whoever worked on the lighting for this video did a great job. Layne and Jerry look absolutely insane in the best way possible at 0:22, 0:31, and 2:20
This is one of those immortal songs, me and so many others will just comeback here throughout our whole lives with the same need of hearing this masterpiece.
Today is April 5, 2019, at my school they played a Nirvana song in tribute of Kurt Cobain, but I was like what about Layne. This is the reason why I'm listening to this right now.
Could not agree more. Where are the young punks, goths today except in parody. What a voice. Where is youthfull rebellion or does it have to trumped? Great albums. The downside Layne has disappeared.
A 2 A not true at all, Alice was already out touring Facelift in 1990 and already put out their first big single Man in the Box, Nirvana didn’t blow up until they released smells like teen spirit in September of 91.
I know very sad. Layne is unmatched but have you ever heard of Brendan Maier. Give him a listen he might surprise you. His band (Chout) is awesome and see his tribute concerts to AIC. He sounds like Layne. You should hear “Psychosis” from his previous band. Believe me, I hope he brings it on!! This generation needs to hear this!!
Jonny is very talented but I view him as having a softer powerhouse voice while Layne is a gritty haunting powerhouse voice. Both singers are underrated. It would’ve been legendary had they ever collabed with one another.
What's great about Alice In Chains is that they transcend both metal and grunge. Not many bands can do what they did.

I love how clearly 90s Alice in Chains videos are. It never stops being great.
Sera I agree dude
I swear almost all them are just the 4 of them shirtless with some trippy and weird visual with a lot of zoom ins on Jerry whenever he does a sick solo

This song never gets old man. AIC forever

I love this song. Layne had the beauty of a Greek statue, like a dark Apollo.
He was gorgeous. Those chiseled features. Tall, lean, just the right amount of hair on his chest, sexy hairstyles..and that voice. POWER.
Hades
Literally hottest man to ever exist ✨
kinda like a dead god under red sky
Emo Apollo
This song is incredibly profound both lyrically and musically
Well, the lyrics are sarcastic. Therefore, the band was rather saying “Do what you dream to be”, which is profound, yes.
Them Bones will be resurrected. Mine and yours. We don't have a choice in the matter.
@@Donjonneau that's a bit rosey. It's not a happy song by any means. It's a confrontation with death and the finality. And it's blunt.
Given what the guys were doing to themselves at this time, and where Layne would ultimately end up, it's a grim and prophetic song. But very powerful.
@@vicenzor9699 Did you ever see the interview in which they explained the meaning of the song?
@@Donjonneau What's the interview?
Layne looks like a different person in every video. He's like a chameleon
And he rocked every look. All while being a full blown Junkie dying of slow suicide. Such a great talent and soul ripped from us too soon
@@rowanmelton7643 “slow suicide is no way to go” (Wake Up - Mad Season)
@@Thebarradonovanmusician Above is a masterpiece of an album
@@rowanmelton7643 agreed, not a single bad tune on it. Seems like everything Layne did was amazing!
For real! I was just thinking that. Layne was so talented and awesome. He looked good with any hairdo, outfit...everything. I love you Layne. You were something special
why is this video getting cooler everytime I stop by
Timeless
Cantrell is a hell of a guitarist
And vocalist
Lyricist and composer
One word... UNDERRATED
He's amazing
Completely underrated
When that guitar hits you it's so fucking epic.
+SSZaris Exactly
Layne's voice is legendary
+Richard V almost as legendary as Ozzys.
+potato rules or eddie
+SSZaris It hits like a sledgehammer. Fuck is it awesome
Let's all pray we can have music like this again
Which music like this has never left really if you think about it
I guess not but a new band would be cool
No. Nothing will come close. The potential for this type of musical talent is non-existent. At least we will have this.
Hoping for something like AIC, but female lead singer. I want to be able to sing like layne, but my voice could never get even close to that range. Female lead? Possibly!!
@@nenzlin umm no. Go listen to evanescence
Staley is the greatest singer I've ever heard. Doesn't matter what music genre, what era, what musical influence. This man's voice transcends humanity.
Great description .......
Chris Cornell is better IMO. I don't think there's ever been a singer with the range Cornell had.
Yes it does!!!!!
I love how this song kicks your ass right from the start...if you're not prepared you may be surprised at how hard this song hits
Those Layne + Jerry harmonies are unmistakable
The 90’s….amazing decade for amazing music produced.
My entire 20's
Layne looks like a Greek statue in this video, he's so beautiful and Jerry just looks like full-blown delight. My heart can only take too much
He's fuvking beautiful
They both are gorgeous
Every member of AiC is very handsome and attractive. Rare instance, except in boybands.
I'm not usually into guys, but God. Damn.
I've had a thing for Layne since 2002.
1:38- 1:46 c'mon man.... that's not even fair..... so fck good I just cant....
My only regret is not appreciating Layne more while he was alive.

Same here. I really didn't get into AIC until 1997-1998, and by that time they'd already quit touring due to Layne's addiction. Never got to see them live but Layne has become my favourite singer of all time.
I didnt really got into aic until this year lol
AIC GRUNGE+METAL
NIRVANA GRUNGE+PUNK
PEARLJAM GRUNGE+BLUES
SOUNDGARDEN GRUNG+ HARDROCK..AIC HAS GOT THE BEST KILLING RIFFS IN GRUNG MOVEMENT
Pearljam blues?
Rock on Lotha Boy 🤘🏻.
soundgarden has a lot of metal influence aswell
Pearl jam is more alternative rock than blues.
@@Mark-hr6uu Listen to their mtv unplugged and you'll know what they mean
The “yeah” during the solo gives me life
Me too! Had to hear it today just for that "yeah!" ❤ Can't get enough of these guys, esp Layne.
The same thing happened to me. It gets better
What I really like about AIC is the vocal harmonics between Jerry and Layne that adds nuance even in a head-banging song like this.
Yep. It's not metal or grunge, just pure art.
@@joelfortenberry7865It’s Mark Lanegan. I liked Degradation Trip and Boggy Depot. Jerry has an amazing voice
Okay, Dave Mustaine has an excuse to sit that one out but other bands really should have stepped their vocal game up.
a badass song from a badass album in a badass video by a badass band. badassness scale was fuckin broken. insane.
ahahaha damn great :P
You can literally taste the 90's in this video.
This song is nuts man. So good

I don't think Jerry Cantrell has been honored as he should have been. Jerry is amazing.
He is really underrated even by people who supposedly consider themselves as fans. He's the genius behind Alice In Chains.
Guinevere Jones the Logic and Sanity of the Band..the Ray Manzorek
This dude is my favorite 90s guitarist. His tone is just THICC
His song writing skills are amazing!
Layne and Jerry look absolutely insane in the best way possible at 0:22, 0:31, and 2:20
The harmonics !!! The chord progression !!! unbelievable..

Today is April 5, 2019, at my school they played a Nirvana song in tribute of Kurt Cobain, but I was like what about Layne. This is the reason why I'm listening to this right now.
Zion Martell you're absolutely right man my number one man
Well Alice in Chains will be Alice in Chains and who ever discovered this beauty when it came out will forever hold their silence.
Cause kurt was the king of grunge but alice in chains invented grunge

@Hesusio Very true indeed
This solo is a masterpiece. This song is a masterpiece
Still knocks spots off the mainstream shit of today. FACT.
You know whats up, ain't nobody touching this!

Could not agree more. Where are the young punks, goths today except in parody. What a voice. Where is youthfull rebellion or does it have to trumped? Great albums. The downside Layne has disappeared.
Lexington Deville84 Damn straight it would.

Alice in Chains was the Pantera of Grunge. These guys were heavy as heck!
i grew up as a Nirvana fan but as i mature i think AIC is way better.
still love both bands though.
Nirvana > all other grunge band.. w/o Nirvana... AIC and other will not be populaar
Narathip Boonjit I love them both!!

Take a listen to Emarosa - Relativity album. Lead singer jonny craig is about as close as it gets to Layne in my opinion
@@nicklancaster2265 Nope, not even close.
