That moment when Duel Academy doesn’t seem like such a ridiculous thing.
That trap class in GX is starting to look like it was practical jfc.
Yugioh rules should be a college class
So Kaiba wasnt high when thought of this school?
@@juri101 In the show they don't deal with this nonsense. "When" effects activate after the other BS resolves, unless they are negated, no "but you miss the timing". Simple, intuitive, maybe that's why yugioh is so popular there (aside for the holograms ofc).
What about card games on motorcycles
Someone says this to me at locals, i believe them, given that i know a few things about IF and WHEN effects, i attempt the same thing game 2, i get called a cheater and i get the round loss. Fucking love this game
Depressing dot Co.
Sucks man. I wish there were actual judges. I was disqualified because my sleeves were "too revealing" at a YCS AFTER I beat him. I told him if he wanted the win that bad, he could have it.
*(Burning abyss, phantom knights VS Dinosaur)*i remember this one time when a guy was wrapped up in texting someone while we where playing, and it got to the point where he asked me what Miscilaneousaurus did for the fifth time. And when he went into Beatrice, lady of the burning abyss, i warning'd it and he made pilgrim. Then he activated the FogBlade he had set from last turn, but due to Miscilaneousaurus, i said that it wouldn't have any effect, and he tried to take back the play, i had enough of him asking the same thing 5 times in a row because he was ignoring me, so i made him commit to the play. After i won some random guy at the end of the table said that if i were his opponent, he would, "DQ you," and that i shouldn't make people commit to their plays, cause that's an illegal thing to do in Yugioh. Got sick of that locals, some of the shittiest people i've ever met, yet some of them are the best i've ever met.
Depressing dot Co. Were they fat?
*sigh*...............your the fucking Messiah
How is commiting to a play illegal
A lesson in Damage Step : Kalut
DAMAGE STEP
*KALUT*
Best lesson
Also I think the fact Marcello didn't think of that play is just simply due to stress and the fact yugioh have so many intricate rulings it's almost impossible to not mess up in a game here and there. Just unfortunately for Marcello he messed up in the semi finals of the world championships.
The reason that the people who play at that level are up there is because they don’t make mistakes as often as everyone else. But they’re still human. I feel for Marcello because I make mistakes like this all the time
I agree
"It can actually make a -World- of difference." GJ, Cimo.
For the love of God this is supposed to be a children's card game
Tell that to the 12 year old who won the Dragon Duels and made 10k selling the prize card XD
it's not like there's any actual functional difference in the ability of a 12 yo & a 20 yo in being able to understand complex game mechanics if they put the time in
Is not
Not really thought
Wenn are way past that, my friend
I seriously learned something new today, thanks cimo 🤔
And THIS is precisely why every player should read the rule book and go over the basics of the rules and PSCT. I mean to be fair, this is a very nuanced rule. The Damage step is one of those things that can be really confusing. Especially, all the sub-steps within it. But as Cimooo masterfully demonstrated, understanding this step and everything else can mean the difference between winning or losing.
Literally spent a good hour of my life just studying the dmg step. This game is not for kids lol
Very clear explanation about why this is important. This is why cimooooo is one of the best yugitubers out there.
But they still take the damage!
Actually, you don't. Since master peace would be gone, there would no longer be a monster to battle with so you would never reach damage calculation.
HeroX
Its an anime meme. In the anime whenever someone is trying to avoid damage and fail or reduce the damages, they tend to yell that
Specifically and almost exclusively in Arc-V.
after re-watching GX and 5D's they say it allot there to... without as much flair as ARC-V though.
+Dreary Doll It is one of the greatest memes to come out of the franchise in my view.
Ive played this game for 15 years and had no idea replays didnt occur during the damage step
This is why this is NOT a children's card game. All these rules like "missing the timing", all the steps in 1 freaking attack, etc.
This game is way too complicated than it has to be...
It's not "too complicated". It's one of those "easy to play, hard to master" things. Kids can perfectly duke it out with one another without getting into these situations. There's a noticeable gap between bad players and good players though.
the complicated aspect of the game is a fantastic aspect of the game imo, you can't just play for a week & be great at the game like with pokemon, though tbf pokemon tends to have more to it in the deckbuilding side
Yeah I definetly agree with the comments above me, its actually amazing that he couldve won there because how deep the rulings are
How? Children can easily learn these things if they put the effort into it. Don't make excuses and get good.
The Kalut foreshadowing was here all along!
"When" is the shittiest word to see in yugioh. Trust me.
Although AzneyesWhiteDragon comes very close.
Yeah that's true no yang king because of that
"Then"
That literally blew my mind, it's crazy that no matter how good a player you are it can come down to the tiniest details
Boom 1 minute after upload! Who needs notifications when you have no life!
That's that's you the goat
This video was ahead of its time
Where's Kalut?
THE ORIGINS OF THE DAMAGE STEP KALUT
Mr. Cimo
I swear to my God you're legend, keep up the good work.
You're the best💙
This is why I'm subscribed to this channel.
One of the best videos you've produced. It's stuff like this that makes players like me always want to improve and get to the next level. Thanks so much Cimoooooooo this was so awesome
Rule book: cards take precedence over rules
Cimo:lol watch this
As Zane Truesdale would say:
"Nobody can be expected to know every technique, especially one as a obscure as that."
Truly, that miniscule ruling is so easily overlooked if you're under Tournament pressure. Very nicely played though! I loved watching all these games
I like how you managed to drag this out to 11 minutes. This could have taken 60 seconds to explain. I hate how UA-cam forces people to stretch out videos.
It is funny how a lot of people is unaware of this. Nice vid Cimooooooo!
"The game isn't over until the last card is played"!
This is why you're the best cimo!
this kind of an out of the world informational video is why i believe you are the most professional of yugitubers
I hope Marcello never sees this video. He probably knows the damage step well enough that he knew this, but it just slipped his mind. If I were him, this would absolutely destroy me.
bro i love your vids
You keep the interests of competitive players and also help beginners. There is no reason why you wouldn't watch cimoooooooo
im fangirling over cimooooooo loving my comment lol
Oh, I'm sure you know all about the damage step considering you taught Gage all about it every time you activated Kalut.
Oh god lol If he sees this... Hes crying lol poor dude.
He probably realised after he flipped it
Of course lord Marcello knows how to play he went 17-0 with zoo
Do you think maybe you can make more of these kinds of videos? It would be great if you could use examples, too! It would really help out a lot, especially for us players who try to look for rulings online and there is none to be found, then your friend continues to do illegal plays even though you have the strong feeling that they are lying.
I'm just a lightsworn player sitting here...
In my corner...
Alone...
Me too play jd pay 1k then you do the same
I learned this in duel links! Now duel links is useful, change my mind.
C_ Danzu world clash legacy was the one that taught me this.
I just subscribed because I love all your youtube videos
Noah Nino Welcome to the family! :D
Cimoooooooo lol Thanks man I feel welcomed 😂😂😂 loved your tkdino build BTW
So True Draco Apocalypse is basically a negate attack and a wall of disruption
He should of played chain burn, that would of got him the last bit of damage he needed.
so in truth... true draco apocalypse can actually negate 1 attack because of a loop hole in the rules xD
Kyle Moore true draco is just slightly more annoying now lol
its not really a loop hole, its just a fact :P (I would even say its wanted^^)
i can see it getting banned
oh, would love that thing to be banned, I lose to apocalypse more often than I lose to MP , wish marcello had won it all so the odds of that happening were higher xP
"Coming directly at Marcello's fucking face..." Cimo I literally shit myself with laughter after that.
Good stuff Cimo, this is my fav content. Cards can be good but once you know mechanics and rulings, that puts you above most players. Thanks man
Holy shit. I get this video is two years old but this is still hella useful. Would have never thought of this on my own. Thanks a ton Cimooo!
The minute I found out he could have won I started crying, like dude, Why? :(
holy shit, I'm a fan of you now.
After I watched this video I realized I realy need to read the rule book.
I do this with lost vambrace so replay doesnt occur and i win that battle yet it still havent figured what the solution here was almost until you said it directly. I was like oooh thats what hes been hinting this whole time. I have a pet peeve of not liking the videos of mainstream yugitubers but i sometimes break that rule for you because the video is pure gold like this one
Finally a good video about the damage step!
Holy shit Cimoooo I didn't even see that coming. I love your videos keep up the good work my man!
P.s. you should make team mats. I would love to purchase one.
Grande Barberi ! Ha comunque portato in alto la bandiera italiana !
i actually learn about this in duel links, as much as tcg player hate that game, it actually teaches me a lot stuff i didn't know before that i could apply in rl duel
The moment cimoooo said true Draco apocalypse I immediately put my hand on my head and yelled “oh no! How do you not play that!?!”
Holy fuck, I've seen that ruling come up like ONCE ever
I didn't think of it at all
Good video taking notes 📝
Nice video, and I really liked the intro. After watching this, holy fucking shit! This is absolutely insane! Wow. Thank you for the video Cimoooooooo
This got recommended to me by nearly some divine providence: I'd been playing an old DS game for fun, with a Glad Beast deck. Because of a shitty starting hand, and some necessary, but painful Solemn Judgements, we were both down pretty low on life points. My opponent had a Reflect Bounder out and I had a Murmillo. I attacked in, used Gladiator War Chariot to negate the Reflect Bounder effect and destroyed it, saving me from dying, but because Reflect Bounder activated in the damage step, I couldn't attack in for lethal. I still won, because, since the battle had gone to the damage step I was able to tag out, make a Gyzarus the next turn and win, but because I didn't know the damage step rules I didn't realize I'd be giving the opponent another draw phase.
" Entire course of history " lmfao
Good work seeing that super important point of the match. Thanks for uploading this video.
irl duel academy when? professor cimo WHEN!?
These kind of videos are why I subscribe! Yu-Gi-Oh! with intelligence
Gotta know your rulings. Bc you can play yourself.
Insert "So you mean to tell me" meme
Surprisingly, once you showed the game (I hadn't watched it yet), I remembered the fact that he wouldn't get a replay if Marcello used his trap during the damage step after the battle step was over (plus, the only response legal during the damage step is another direct ATK/DEF modifier or a counter trap).
This hits differently in 2021 xD
I knew this from long time ago, but every time this kind of situations happen, I am most likely be playing at my local. Don't want to be a ruler there, and no one else can help me with judges. So this is only relevant when I am playing at regional or bigger events.
Thank you Weather Painters for teaching me about the Damage Step so well
I was shouting at Barbery when he did not do that, I was like 'WHY THE HELL DIDNT YOU ACTIVATE APO AT THE DAMAGE STEP YOU COULD SURVIVE".
I didn't watch worlds but as soon as you showed the replay I was like 😮 he could've!!! Pressure makes us all misplay*
Good video
That is an insane play with duality!
Bring back throwback Thursday
Once again I learned something about this game from you. Keep up the great work.
Thanks man, even after so many years of yugioh, this one blew ma mind
So let me get this straight. Every battle in the Battle Phase works like this...
1. Monster declares attack - Cards like Mirror Force and Kuriboh can be activated at this time
2. Battle Step - any allowed replays occur
3. Damage Step - damage is calculated, then monsters are destroyed
If that's the case, can cards like Rope of Light and Michizure be activated at the end of or after the Damage Step?
I've been using this technique all the time even before seeing this video. It saved my ass every single time and was often the turning point of games that brought me victory.
This is why i love yugioh, there are many posibility happens in a match
Duel Links makes a lot of these more nuanced interactions a lot easier to digest and understand, because the system has auto triggers and messages for toggling and whatnot, forcing you to venture into the internet to figure out why you got clapped. I'm a noob and have absorbed a fair amount of high level knowledge just from the system helping me out.
In particular I know all about this interaction thanks to World Legacy Clash being abused for this exact reason.
THIS TWO YEARS LATER IS AMAZING DUDE
This is so helpful because I never really understood the rules of replay attacks.
This is really good to know. I've been playing Yugioh for YEARS and I've never 100% understood the damage step
I m glad I m subbed to this channel
Cimoooooooooo needs to upload a compilation of all of his damage step moments.
Omg, what a great spot that was.
I am a Dark Signer so I also inflict real damage to my opponent during the damage step.
Pretty good video. Something that is food for thought. On the flip side of this discussion, this honestly proves how convoluted and poorly designed the damage step is in terms of game mechanics. Konami really needs to consider fixing the damage step and make it more clear on how damage step functions.
I can imagine a meme where cimo as morpheus shows this to Marcelo as neo, and Marcelo is like "you meant to tell me that this is not a children's card game?"
That’s crazy. No replay. I don’t think I would think to ask a judge if replays happen in the damage step.
The ONLY effects that can activate in the Damage Step are ATK/DEF modifiers, counter traps, and flip effects - that’s it! Not every quick effect can activate in the damage step just because it’s a quick effect.
Damn good vid dude. Right before you even say it, I just figured it out myself. This'll be useful to remember.
I haven't played competitive in like 10 years and assumed this was common knowledge. That is why stuff like shrink was good back in the day, there was a lot less chance to counter it than a typical card like mirror force.
So this is why Battle over the World Legacy can work as a pseudo attack negater.
Cool.
I caught on to this as soon as I saw he flipped it face up and it baffled me how a "professional player" didn't see it instantly. I play casually and even I noticed it. I made sure I took the time to figure out chain links and a bunch of really small mechanics such as this one. But I probably would have forgot if I was under that much pressure as well
Happens a lot in Duel Links with Beast Rising.
Another reason apocalypse is a tad bit broken. Its escalation, shrink, scrap dragon or negate all in the same card. Oh yeah and its searchable lol.
German Morales broken? It isn't broken and it can't negate anything and it's only scrap dragon if you have another face up trap on the field to pop.
You need dracos in hand to tribute summon using the trap effects and in demise dracos or really dracos in general you probably have most of the dracos on your field unless you combo with waterfall of dragon souls or Majesty maiden
Great video! Love your content and your in depth explanations, keep it up!
I love doing this with Rainbow Dragon. Granted, chances are my opponent wouldn't have been able to redeclare an attack anyway unless they felt like taking out half of their life points, but it's still hillarious.
This is some next-level content.
I disagree with some of your banlist positions but this was a damn good video.
Checking this after the Chijeratech Limiter Removal. Seeing this replay, had the Dino player banished Misc to summon any random level 1 Dinosaur, then linked it away, he'd have a third monster to activate UCT with and remove any chances of True Draco Apocalypse doing anything.
Playing Superheavy Samurais (as casual as that sounds) I have a lot of cards that alter the Defence stat of my monsters and a fair few effects that can go off in the battle step and the damage step and some that only go off during the damage step and these effects can't be chained so i need to know the difference of which order to activate some and when or sometimes just know when to equip them.
For a deck people look down on it requires you to know a lot of intricate rulings and phase mechanics
Mindblowing stuff. Your explanations are really clear, Cimo. :D
