When I first started my playing career in 2008 in earnest, I used to play 9/6 DDB exclusively and I hit many Quad Aces w/kickers. The problem, however, was the volatility. It was always, feast or famine, so I switched to the much less volatile game of 8/5 Bonus Poker and found that it was no longer feast or famine. The lower volatility of the game allowed my bankroll to last longer. I started hitting Royals because I lasted longer on the machines. So here I am years later with 39 Royal Flushes under my belt for close to $500,000. The ONLY way I’ll play another game (other than 9/6 JoB or 8/5 BP) is AFTER a big win on the 2 games that I just mentioned so I can use House money on 9/6 DDB, or 9/7 DB, or 9/6 BPD. Otherwise, I ONLY play 8/5 BP 99.9% of the time. It’s the video poker goose that lays the golden eggs. In fact, the volatile games were created specifically to lure players away from those 2 games. Now, don’t get me wrong, I like 9/6 DDB & some other games too, but the player cannot make money consistently on all the other games, so I don’t play them for that reason. Those games are thrilling, but they destroy your bankroll quickly. I only play video poker for money and not as a recreational pursuit. So keep the following in mind: “The more thrilling the game, the more money you lose. The more boring the game, the more money you make.” 8/5 Bonus Poker is, in fact, a real money maker.🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
The Straight Flush on 8/5 Bonus Poker pays 250 coins ($1,250) which is double the size of Quad 5-K’s which is 125 coins ($625). Just multiple the number of coins shown on the pay table by the number shown on the coin denomination.🌎
Back in the day, Bob Dancer & other VP experts would only play 9/6 Jack's or Better. Are there any 'full pay" (99.54%) machines still around, & is that strategy still valid? Thanks for posting.
There’s 9/6 JoB in most of the High Limits in Vegas: Caesars Palace, Cosmo, Venetian, Red Rock, Palace Station, Sunset Station, Rampart, SunCoast, Encore/Wynn, Bellagio, et al. but mostly in the High Limit rooms and in Southern California at Pechanga (in every denomination). Good Video poker pay tables are very much alive in the high limit rooms.🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
I prefer to switch machines to find one thst’s rolling along on 8/5 Bonus Poker. Then I go up & down the coin denominations in order to “catch” a good hit on hopefully the higher denominations. There are situations where I will switch games but usually only for 15 hands or so. And if I happen to switch to 9/6 DDB and it’s rolling along and hItting good hands, I’ll stay on it. But the volatile games take your money back real quick. I didn’t really want to switch games this time because the bankroll was way to sparse to visit the “even more” volatile games. Even though this was 8/5 Bonus Poker, this machine starting running cold. You’ll see in my next few videos that I leave this machine in search of others. Thanks for watching.😁🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
Wow! Thanks, James, I didn’t even know there was a casino there! I’ll have to go check it out. 5 years is a very long drought for a Royal Flush. I wish you much success soon. Hopefully, you’re able to get to some other casino venues for your play.🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
Greetings from Torrance! Hi John! Great follow up video from the Royal! I love how you show people that you are only risking house money. Not too long ago I told you that I was a very one dimensional player. Only played quarters and every so often when brave played 50 cent coin. Now I'm playing one and two dollar coin without feeling "too risky." Once the switch in my head says "Hey, you are on house money" I don't worry about risk. It doesn't feel dangerous. When finding a hot machine, going for it isn't a big deal. Its a whole lot more fun on two dollar coin than quarters! Teaching people perfect play is one thing, changing a mindset is another. You have definitely inspired me! Take care sir!
Hi Paul. Yes…..while it may be a trifle disappointing “losing” House money, there’s no really super big wins, without it. So, when Big House money comes around, you may as well step it up for some real thrills, and if you snag a Royal Flush, you’ll realize (like I did long ago), “That There’s Gold In Them Thar’ Hills”!😝🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
@@johnsworldofvideopoker There's much to be learned from that statement! There's a fine line between staying too long on a cold machine or leaving too early on a hot one! Best thing about this channel are all the tips, strategy, and hand analysis. 👏👏👏
Nice win John! I love $2 coin too. Sunday I started with $600 in playing BPD and cashed out a whopping $5100! Not sure how many 4OAKs I hit, but it was a bunch. Less than a 1000 hands total too!
Thank you. That is a great run my friend! Congratulations. Especially for being on a more volatile game, on $2 coin denomination with an underfunded bankroll ($600 vs. the normally needed $2,750) that would more likely be required to face that game. But that’s great “randomness” can be in video poker. Learning how to manage a bankroll with a tight disciplined approach can even enhance those odds as well. Awesome job!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
@@johnsworldofvideopoker Thank you John! I did have a much larger bankroll in my pocket, but only needed $600 of it. It was quite a run of luck I will admit, rarely have I seen the 4OAKs roll out so freely. At $800 a pop it was quite fulfilling! 🙂 Looking forward to more content!
Thanks again John! I’ve been playing since the 80’s but always learning. Question, do you believe in cashing out at some point when you go without a paying hand. I do this just to change up the rhythm. Sometimes it works but am I being superstitious, lol!
Video poker is random, random, and random.😁 I may leave a machine in search of another (that just happens to be rolling) even though I know that it’s all random and it makes no difference😁, but for me, I’m after hitting 100 Big Money Royals so I’m always moving in that direction.😎🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
@@johnsworldofvideopoker Thanks John! I hit a couple royals within a week of each other but that was February. Going to LV next week and hoping!! May stop at Resorts World next Monday to watch bigkats.
Good luck to you. Resorts World has a great high limit area but their main floor video poker is severely lacking. But it’s always fun to hang out with Bigkats. So why not?!😎🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
Another excellent video! Thank you for the excellent instructions on BP. Thanks to you, I am no longer playing just one coin (🤣) and am no longer afraid of playing $1 max bet. Here is to more Royals and good pay tables in our future!💰💰💰💰🤑
Thank you, Pecunious. You’re a great player and deserve to receive the rewards that come with max bets such as the $1,000 & $4,000 Royals that you hit recently. Great Job!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
Thank you. Yes Sir! Bumping it up has put me way ahead on so many occasions. You win some, you lose some, but this one was fun because I got a lot of decent higher denomination play out very little of my own money.😁🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
Its Pechanga for me on Sat the 8th, $1000 bankroll. Still deciding what to play and what denom, going to be $1 or $2. Usually play TDB, but last time I was there I did play some BP.
A $1,000 bankroll is quite adequate on 8/5 Bonus Poker on the 50¢, $1, and possibly a little bit of play on $2 coin, if you hit some decent Quads or Bonus Quads while on the $1 coin denomination. But that also assumes that you're well-practiced on a simulator that "warns on mistakes" on 8/5 Bonus Poker and are well-versed on the game. If you're going to be playing TDB then your best bet would be to play it at Pala (since they have 9/7 TDB there) which is better than the 9/6 or 9/5 TDB that you're going to find at Pechanga. However, just as importantly, if not even more importantly, is knowing that TDB is 5X more volatile than 8/5 BP, and in my mind at least, would require 5X the bankroll than does 8/5 BP. So, that means a $5,000 bankroll on TDB (and even more if the pay table is not optimum). I'm not suggesting that you bring that size of a bankroll, but I am using it as an example of the difference in size requirements of the bankroll to have a decent shot on the TDB game. A $5,000 bankroll for an 8/5 Bonus Poker player would put him on the $5 coin denomination, with possibly coining-up to the $10 coin denomination if there's some good House money hits to play with that are won from the $5 coin denomination play. Feel free to reach out if you would like to meet-up with me on Saturday and I'll share a little perspective on 8/5 BP if that suits you. You can reach me at johnsworldofvideopoker@gmail.com.😎🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
@@johnsworldofvideopoker I have used a sim for years to practice, but I really have not played much BP to say I am as good at it as DDB and TDB. I don't make a lot of mistakes, but some, even on TDB. I have never taken a bankroll that large, I do know I should be playing $1 max, but its taking that shot at the extra hand pays that I like from TDB. Might not be mathematically the best strategy so I could do better that's for sure. At first I didn't care for TDB, I saw the volatility and the lower payout on trips can eat money quickly. Both DDB and TDB are 9/6 at Pechanga, so I don't even have to search for those machines, they are just set at that. The numbers for BP are better overall over DDB and TDB, 8/5 at 99.17% is damn good DDB is 98.98% and TDB is a little lower at 98.15% The sim I use is from freeslots website, not sure if you also use that one.
