I was the biggest Z and ZX fan...grew up with these cars in the family...We owned five ZXs and Zs.....and the one thing that stood out was reliability...the bullet proof L28 ...solid - - - the only thing and the big problem was that squatting when you accelerated. lol ...but in the day when guys were running around with 5.0s and Z28s, Vettes and what not....Turbo ZX's were taking care of business....I don't care what anyone says....Skylines may be legendary in Japan ...which is great, but these ZXs (in the hands of real deal car guys)...could perform like no other car. I had a 4-speed 1975 280Z with very minimal mods...and back in 1986-87 I'd be keeping up with all the new Vettes, beating the shit outta Mustangs, Z-28s and RX-7s....
This car was gorgeous! I had one restored in the mid 90s and people would stop me to comment on how beautiful it was. Didn't replace the identifiers saying "Datsun 280zx" so people would ask what kind of car it was because they had never seen one. I wish it was faster off the line. Loved cruising on highways in it!
Because it’s a Datsun Z. Worth saving. New owner could swap to a 5sp manual if they wanted, so not a problem. Relaxes the revs of the L6 on long cruises. Nice wheels.
Yes yes yes! A stellar original car where most rusted away! Amazing find! Anyone that buys this will get instant cred for a low price point entry! We need more of these cars out in the scene! So what's with the 911 on the lower left corner ;)
I have a 1980 base model. My uncle bought it new in feb 1980. Has 81k on it. No power windows/locks/or steering. I'd have no problems passing up that car. It's super clean, but I'd have to do a 5 speed swap. I'd rather do a swap on a higher mileage car.
Sounds like an awesome car. 5 speed is definitely more desirable in general, but there is always someone looking for an automatic. The person that bought this car specifically wanted an automatic due to a bad knee.
I'm thinking of buying one as a project car, and this influenced the fact of how great it would be to own as it's a lot cheaper than the 280z but in my opinion is as good
I new here in this channel... I am super fan of cars. I really love cars specially from the past. More vintage the more exciting to drive. I do love all of your videos bro. Keep it cool and informative content.. thanks for sharing your hobbies and make it on UA-cam.. 👍👍👍
One of the best Zs..... you can buy it now and still make more money after 3 years of ownership..... they are gone up at price if you find one in a good condition rust shouldn't be an issue
Yes, production began in 1978 for the 1979 model year. The 1980, I believe has a different ECU giving it a few more horsepower than the previous year. Of course, 1980 saw the introduction of the turbo charged version.
Had a couple of these including a factory turbo, fantastic cars sit on 100 mph all day, cheers from new Zealand

Glad we can help! We wish you much luck.
@@GastonRossato thanks man
Sorry but its just not quite as good as the first gen S30 Zs....its less of a sports car and more of a GT car.

My 79 Datsun has a dents below the front bumpers like the one shown from the high 7-Eleven curbs in front their stores.
Battle scars!
Nice video!
awesome video
I used datsun Zs. 260z,280zx and 300zx.The longer was 1979 280zx from 1987 1997.
Damn it's really blue streak
First Datsun 280ZX came out in 1979 and not 1978. 1969-78 Datsun S30 body. ZX came out in 79. Beautiful car though :)
I think they started producing them in 1978 as a '79 model.

I think they are beautiful car..
Indeed!
Hi, I have a budget. What kind of 240Z to 280Z resto/remod can I get for $20K. EdA
Its soooooo slow stock. I owned one from 1995 to 2001, with 291k miles when I sold it.
It’s a cruiser.
Easily tuned
"Some" parts are available, some parts are no way able to find
This was my first car at 16 years old. Paid 1500 for it. Got tboned by a dummy that ran a stop sign 🤦
Automatic is better for cruising. You don't want to cruise with a stick. It depends what you want the car for though.
You got it!
I have a the same exact car, same year, same colors in and out, but mine is a 5 speed. Too bad they have to deal with this automatic.
How much their price
Ok. Shut up and take my money when when you have 1982 280 ZX let me know ! 🎉

Timeless

I'm sorry but I'd have to put a five speed transmission in it.
For sale car

Beautiful car but auto :(
True. But the person who bought it needed the car automatic. It’s all relevant
