This is really wonderful, Greg. Thanks for creating this love letter to Bass Lake in the winter. It made my siblings and I want to visit it for our first time.

I miss watching Greg's adventures on Motion. This was a great video to showcase Bass Lake.

I grew up in Sacramento, and my grandparents lived in Bass Lake, so my immediate family and I would often visit. We'd rent a party boat for the 4th of July and spend all day on the lake, and occasionally, we'd take a trip to Yosemite. When I was younger, I never really appreciated being away from town, but when I look back on all those trips to my grandparents' house, I realize that Bass Lake has a special place in my heart. It truly is a beautiful area, and I miss it a lot.

Bravo! I lived at Bass Lake for 10 years -raised my 2 kids here at the Lake-everything Greg says about this place is spot-on. Fall is one of the favorite times I go back to visit.

Thank you for this video. My wife and I just inherited a home in Yosemite lakes park,I have gone up to bass lake a few times and I love it. It’s so cool to know that the Great outdoors movie was filmed there. I currently live in Las Vegas but I’m seriously thinking of moving up there permanently .

I was there recently and almost all of the dead trees have been removed around the lake, but still a lot dead trees in the distance. I am hoping that new growth of trees will replace what has died off and the dead ones can be removed. Still very picturesque and a beautiful place.

Winter through spring at bass lake is great. Once the tourist show up it becomes known as Donkey lake due to the amount of people that show up and abuse the area. As a local I stay away and visit the high country as much as possible..either hiking from clover meadow to devils post pile or fishing the San Joaquin below mammoth pools..or hiking the lilian loop. I love this area that I live and raised my family.

your video is beautiful. A visual depth of the area, that needs a voice. You gave it a well deserved voice- thank you

Love it out there. I was bummed you stopped doing motion. I try to get into the other shows but yours was original. Glad I found it on UA-cam. Who knows maybe I'll run into you while I'm kayaking or visiting there. Take care Greg. Hope you are doing well.

Wow great video! I am visiting Yosemite this winter for the first time and heard a few things about Bass Lake. Is it true you can see the milky way there at night?

It is true that given clear skies you can see the Milky Way in the area and especially when you are up at the lake.

That area with the guard rails... What was it originally?

    • @VisitYosemiteMaderaCounty

Hello, where the guard rails are was originally the Falls Resort - very popular in the 50's and 60's - the lake hangout spot! Here's an link with some history - content.cdlib.org/ark:/13030/kt9v19q737/?layout=metadata. See you at the Lake!
