Loved Little Britain back in the day, everyone at the time was watching it too. Literally had no idea that anyone was offended by it until the internet and social media blew up and started seeing people moaning about how x, y, z sketch wasn't funny just offensive. I was so perplexed at the time I just couldn't understand why people were taking a dumb sketch show so personally, re-watching it now though I'm almost surprised wasn't _more_ controversial 😂
I had only moved to the UK as a child at the peak of Little Britain. Unfortunately, I had moved from Thailand so Ting Tang Macadangdang's antics put me and my mum and sister into the line of fire 😅 by the time I understood the gravity of it, I was already too desensitised to care lol
To be honest, the thing I remember most of Brainiac: Science Abuse weren't really the women (to be completely honest, I almost completely forgot that it had those segments) but more so that depending on the type of salts you shove in high quantities into caravans, you get impressive colorful explosions AND that thermite is pretty disturbing (something I was recently reminded off when I was reading one of the Final Destination novels where it was used to off a character...)... But frankly, you could still make Brainiac today, perhaps make it a bit more scientific (there is a lot of cool looking experiments you still do) and less breast-centric but it can be done. A show (though not British, it is Belgian) that I don't see anyone making today would be M!LF, which was short for Men Liberation Front and was meant to be poke fun at feminism and the idea of the new man in a satirical, be it at times incredible juvenile, way and since people nowadays simply don't seem to get satire anymore, anyone involved would like be burned at the stake for it if made today.
Think you've missed the point about Brainiac: Science Abuse. It wasn't all about scantily clad women it was more about how fast John Tickle can run across a pool full of custard or how potent thermite is. It took light-hearted questions and smashed them together with actual science and a fun editing style to create a brilliant comedic effect, it was genius. You've honed in on one particular theme and by doing so you're tainting the shows legacy. It's as if you're making out it's just some backwards show for 'lads' and 'blokes' who just wanted to see something raunchy.

If anything, comedy ages badly. Something funny becomes popular because its relatable. I don't think there's any comedy on TV today, due to this innate fear that someone, somewhere and at some point in the future _might_ possibly get offended by something said, (in jest, no less), on it. Apparently, we're not allowed to find things funny, (particularly in regard to ourselves), any more. Because, that's all it would take. Seeing the funny side of things rather than living as a perpetual victim, scared of how the world might perceive us, and complaining about it when it gets too close for comfort. The infantilising effect where no-one is allowed to say anything even remotely interpreted as disparaging about anyone else, (particularly pertaining to race, gender and sexuality), as it could possibly be interpreted as hurting their feelings. The irony being that it's not even the people within these groups who complain, but some sanctimonious offended by proxy individuals/advocacy group, who have to make a noise every now and then, otherwise no-one would know they existed, not to mention risking their, no doubt, well-paid jobs paid for by the public purse, no less.
Reading the comemnts, most people really can't come up with anything more intelligent or creative to say than "woke" or "snowflake" can they? Haha! Hated Little Britain when it first aired, it just wasn't funny and people are really here trying to compare it to South Park? Fat Families and similar shows (Supersize vs Superskinny, What not to Wear, Snog / Marry / Avoid, 10 years younger etc) were all just an excuse to bully and exploit people on national TV. I disagree about Braniac though, it was another show I grew up with and it was so, so much more than the skantily clad professor who maybe made up about 5 minutes of the shows 30 minute runtime. Braniac was such a fun and creative way to make science interesting.

The examples listed is no doubt part of the reason why nostalgia exists, the 80s and 90s was my time for watching TV shows (surprised Eurotrash never got a mention!). As an honourable mention would include the sitcom Game On starring Samantha Janus too (for those who remember some of the jokes featured), but the examples listed I'd say are more anti-woke pro-progressive than out-and-out offensive compared to what's available nowadays targeting very young people within the education system!
It used to be that if people took offense, they COULD write/phone and make complaints, but most of them would simply not watch the programs they found distasteful. With Social media and everything being available with just a search phrase, people have not only gotten an inflated idea of how important their opinions are, but also a much easier time to stalk and hate and complain about that which they find "offensive". I watched a video explaining how the human body reacts to the pressure of the ocean depths, and it was fascinating. In the comments however was some outraged snowflake (I am not a right-wing nut but that phrase is apt) who had so obviously not only read the description of the video, but also watched the entire thing despite being easily grossed out and offended by biology... ??? Like, why even click a video you can't stomach watching? And why watch it all the way through?? Social media was a mistake. People of all political orientations live in a constant state of outrage, and it's reflecting on real world politics.
Won't lie, 10 Years Younger has a very shallow concept, even back in the mid to late 2000's. All that show did was dump an unhealthy amount of pressure on ageing individuals to look young/trendy (and gave out a very irresponsible message that growing old gracefully is not acceptable in society), not to mention conveying that broken aesop that it's acceptable to cruelly rip someone's self-esteem apart over trivial things such as thier hair, looks, dress sense & physique. That show was brutally effed up smh And don't get me started on that bint Nicky Hamilton Jones! 🙄😒😡😤🥱
Yet we have the same and much much worse now on UA-cam, Tik tok etc etc and not much is said….least with tv your parents had some element of control. Social media on a personal device is a different kettle of fish!
I think even if you liked those shows back in the day I don’t think the likes of LB would return with everything being so woke it wasn’t my most favourite of sketches and it was a bit too much at times but I don’t think Williams and Locus set out to make fun of people Xx
South Park is all of these shows combined into one yet it’s still tolerated today, how these other shows which are far less politically incorrect get banned and SP doesn’t is pure absurdity.
The Word was shown but absolutely nothing wrong just a couple of girls singing a Kylie song, and the random fact that it had one dodgy fan. Am I missing something?
The “id do anything to be famous” segments were the most gross parts but they probably didn’t want to show the things people ate on the show for monetary reasons Let’s just say the guy with the milk moustache that was shown didn’t get it from a glass of cows milk…

As an honourable mention would include the sitcom Game On starring Samantha Janus too (for those who remember some of the jokes featured), but the examples listed I'd say are more anti-woke pro-progressive than out-and-out offensive compared to what's available nowadays targeting very young people within the education system!
Eurotrash was the reason 14 yr old me would stay up late and check the TV guide.

100% Social media has given every village idiot in the developed world a voice, and who knew there were so many villages?
Sky 1 should have a video of its own strange shows
Chris Morris should do a Brass Eye Covigeddon special. Or, actually perhaps Covid reporting was pretty much a Brass Eye special.
That show was brutally effed up smh
And don't get me started on that bint Nicky Hamilton Jones! 🙄😒😡😤🥱
Yet we have the same and much much worse now on UA-cam, Tik tok etc etc and not much is said….least with tv your parents had some element of control. Social media on a personal device is a different kettle of fish!
Are you kidding me? Brass Eye has aged like a fine wine.
I think even if you liked those shows back in the day I don’t think the likes of LB would return with everything being so woke it wasn’t my most favourite of sketches and it was a bit too much at times but I don’t think Williams and Locus set out to make fun of people Xx
Little Britain was great. They came over here in Australia for theatre show
was there a usa version of Brainiac because that show looks familiar and I don't know why
From Blind Date to Married at First Sight, that's progress!
Little Britain is still brilliant.
For real! it's a treasure!
Its dross
Agree its terrible, zero laughs
@@trevorj3838 True. Tasteless and embarrassing.
I like it but hate king of nonces David walliams
Little Britain was a piss take.
South Park is all of these shows combined into one yet it’s still tolerated today, how these other shows which are far less politically incorrect get banned and SP doesn’t is pure absurdity.
Mind your language is a big shout out.
Anything with the lovely Chawner family?
😂😂😂😂
Or The F***ing Fulfords family, I bet they too would be censored due to the party pooping woke brigade
Yes little Britain was insensitive because of black face, yet the movie white chicks is perfectly acceptable 🤔🤔
It ain't half hot mum, dad's army and a lot of 60s to mid 90s will not work.
I can imagine Love Island will be added to lists like this in the future.
The Word was shown but absolutely nothing wrong just a couple of girls singing a Kylie song, and the random fact that it had one dodgy fan. Am I missing something?
The “id do anything to be famous” segments were the most gross parts but they probably didn’t want to show the things people ate on the show for monetary reasons
Let’s just say the guy with the milk moustache that was shown didn’t get it from a glass of cows milk…
Back when people had a sense of humor and snowflakes didn’t ruin everything ahhh the good old days.
I would say Monty Python would do well on this list lol, if you think about it - how many of their classic skits could get past broadcaster screening tests now a days?
Remember, just because you are offended doesn't mean you're right. Little Britain was quite funny.
