    I've had this amp for 4 years now and it plays like a boss. People here are hating on Line6 just to hate and I bet 90% of you haven't played this amp. I don't really use all the effects, made my own channels and it's great when playing gigs cause you don't need a damn pedal board when you want some delay or reverb on your leads. Fantastic amp and loud as hell.

    I've heard this amp in real life and it sounded much better. Turn down the treble a bit man. Or get a better mic to record into. This is very harsh sounding. Tube amps are supposed to be warm. It's what they're known for.

    I am basing it on this video, but I have had a Line 6 Spider amp before, and I think that it is safe to say that Line 6 does not make good amps. If you want a really good tubey roar sound for a small budget, I highly suggest a Vox Valvetronix hybrid amp. It has a tube in it, and I can get it to sound like many high-quality tube amps, including a Dumble and a JCM 800.

    After playing guitar for 35+ years I've learned that no matter how good or bad an amp is, everyone has different opinions. For 25 years I was a tube only guy. I've pretty much owned everything from AC30's to Marshalls, Fenders, Peavy, Mesa, Carvin, Roland, Hughes-Kettner. You name I've either used one or owned one. Everyone that has a tube amp ends up trying to get more gain by using distortion and compression to the point it may as well be a digital amp.

    Just keep in mind people who watch this, the master volume is EVERYTHING in shaping your distorted tones on this amp. This video doesn't really show off how good it sounds because he is cranking the channel volume and not the master. You need to crank the master like 3/4 and then turn the channel volume up to like half for this thing to sound like a tube amp. Otherwise you are just whistlin dixie..

  • @AndrewStonerock
    @AndrewStonerock 4 роки тому +1

    I'd like to point out it has a digital preamp, and the two 12ax7 are in the phase Inverter spot to push the power amp tubes. I actually run my helix through the power amp of one of these. It sounds incredible.

  • @mynameisthor4859
    @mynameisthor4859 13 років тому +1

    @10thFulcrum you should be able to get rid of it by holding down the TAP button and turn the reverb knob clockwise, a green light by the D button should indicate that the noise gate is ON. Your guitar's pickups might also be the problem, some pickups are more sensitive to static, and so could your cable.

  • @Subilon

    What I really like about line 6 is that you can customise and program your own sounds.Dont have to mess around finding sounds they are already there programmed in.

  • @etone08
    @etone08 15 років тому

    yes, solid state amps often have huge circuit boards, whereas the last amp I built barely used a board at all! the compents are bigger, but theres no where near the quantity, which means you can string things "point to point", between valves and pots.

  • @Nezrimo

    I'm willing to bet 75% of these people saying that this amplifier is bad haven't even played it. It's an absolutely fantastic piece of equipment. I've had it near on 6 years and i've only recently needed to replace with the tubes, even after a fair amount of use. Some tones i will admit aren't great, but the better outweigh the bad by far. This amplifier is a sound purchase for anyone looking to move up from a practice amp to something more affordable than going straight to a Half/Full stack.

    I had a Spider Valve 112 that was one of my favorite amps. Good punch with the bogner designed tube section, combined with the array of sounds from Line 6 modeling. And the 1x12 was crazy loud, I can’t imagine the 2x12!!😵

    I have this amp, its awesome...the only complaint I have is the default channel volumes. Someone who plugs into this amp for the first time is bound to have the crap scared out of them due to the volume...the channel volumes are nearly maxed by default. Its easy to fix, just turn each of them down and save...but it shouldnt be like that to begin with.
    Other than that, I love this amp

    I really have never gotten why people hate on line 6 amps so much. If you want something with alot of options on it to play around with then they're a really great option. I picked up my line 6 spider II 210 for about 200 bucks and it's a great practice amp. I'd never gig with it or anything, but it's really nice to have a few effects to play around with.

    well anyone who has done any research knows that the Spider series is Line 6's beginner amp line and their Vetta series is their proline. I have a vetta II 300 watt combo and it is the best amp I have ever owned. If line 6 ever made a vetta valveamp line It would be BEASTLY. The truth is most of you people here on yt have never even seen or heard of the vetta series, yet you still criticize line 6. And their new pods are the GOLD STANDARD in recording nowadays. i have discovered with my spider 2 that you can use the headphone socket as line out and plug it into the input of another amp, i have plugged it into a yamaha GA-10 and its great for my bedroom etc,using reverb and whatever effects you want playing through the other practice amp,with or without the treble/bass of the little amp, brings with it a new tone,and if you have a problem with volume of spider you dont have to fear death everytime you alter it,cos you can set it then alter GA-10! great!

  • @shredidiah

    I went into the store and played several valve amps, I ended up buying a Fender Deluxe, its small, class A and sounds awesome, but to get a decent tones you need to have stomp boxes. So although it cost a little less than the Spider, once you add half a dozen foot pedals, a power supply, extra cables etc, your up to Mesa Boogie money. I'm going back today and swapping it for the spider valve. Ask yourself do you want to become a sound engineer or play guitar ? For me the latter !

    Really nice review. I really like listening to Paul. Line 6 makes some of the best digital amps out there... I've played Marshals Tubes, Fenders, Peavey and all the rest. My go to amp is always a Line 6 and the new ones keep getting better and better with more features. This Valve 212 has some sweet features and you can get an insane amount of different tones/sounds/effects out of this...

    My pedal was 100 dollars. But if you mean amp, I bought the Spider Valve HD100 head and the matching cab. It was i think 800 for head and 600 for cab. Its great though. I cant believe i liked this amp at all before the EQ, it sounds way better. I also recently modded it with the SVpre, which is a mod from strymon that many owners have done. Its great.

    I couldn't agree more! The amount of gain you can squeeze out of this thing is insane. I got the newer version then the one that's being reviewed. So loud and so much power for 40 watts. There is only one concern that i have. I use my FBV Foot switch Express pedal with this thing and there is a slight delay when switching between channels. I went to a Michael Angelo Batio clinic and he says he plays through ANYTHING, because he uses an overdrive pedal for his sound. He used a DIME amp when I saw him because it was handy. He also said he will sound the same no matter what amp or guitar he plays through, he is not beholding to any real brands, but he does dig his custom Dean guitars for their playability and pickups...after endorsing many others in the past.

    Paul has mentioned in past Guitar World CD Roms that he can't play exact songs due to copyright issues but that he plays similar parts that recall specific songs. In this case at 10:14 he's playing a part that is meant to be reminiscent of the intro to Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell" which makes use of the same style of echo and moving chords over a drone bass line.

    The cost was covered because it was under warranty. I think it was very inexpensive, because it was just a little piece. I would contact Line 6 because I took it to a licenced Line 6 rep. If you are any where near a larger city, you will find plenty of licenced repair people. Line 6 make still take care of it because it is a know problem according to the repairman that fixed mine. I had to drive about 90 miles, so hopefully you are closer to a rep.

    Are you talking about directly from your guitar? If so, dont because it sounds far worse there, but if your talking about connected to the back of the amp thru the preamp in and preamp out (the same as a effects loop) then yes it should go there. Its amazing, you will love it. I got a Boss EQ for 100 dollars which is a 7band EQ and it does the job.

    I use the EQ pedal ALL the time. you dont really need to change it even when switching from distortion to clean, it still improves the sound. It depends what genre your playing. for rock, keep the mids up and maybe up the treble, it really depends on what you think sounds good, but its far better then the normal EQ on the amp. Put the EQ thru the effects loop by the way. For a metal tone, drop the mids and up the bass and treble and your rockin.

    Hi. I'd just like to say that Line 6 isn't bad. The spider series are pretty notorious, and yeah they're not the best, but that doesn't mean that all of Line 6 is bad.
    Their new POD HD and Variax guitars are amazing. They really stepped up their game with those.
    Of course a classic tube amp rocks, but you can't keep denying that modeling is getting more and more amazing each passing year.

    Very powerful amp for the guitarist with a not too big wallet do to speak.
    The alternative is the Spider Valve HD100 which is a head with 100watts tube power.
    To get the max out of this amp I use a modified 1960a speakercabinet along with a Ibanez prestige equipped with EMG's.
    It's durable! rigid! However, keep in mind that it's basically a computer with a tube amp so be careful!
    Sound: Profound, heavy, superb modelling! For effect I use external because the amp effects aren't that good.

    @Jovanchero the 212 comes with $300 worth of Celestion vintage 30 speakers so there's that....if you're playing gigs or looking to blow the roof off the place...get the HD100...if you're playing in your room or garage the 212 Mkii is MORE than enough.....40 watts of tube power is A LOT!

    Hey paleman, I was wanting to buy one of these but it was A head and cab. the one with the clear plate in front so you can see the tubes, anyway, I didn't buy it because when you crank it up just A little the feedback was just horrible, bad enuf 4 me not to buy it. im sure it has A gate in it but my question is can you still get that action out of it after you gate the terrible feedback? tubes. definantly
    tube amps are louder because they rely on actual tubes instead of little computer chips for sound.
    and they have a better feel to them too. and what i mean by that is that they get more gain when you hit the strings harder.
    tube amps are basically amazing :]

    One of the best kept secrets is the Bugera 1960 and the 1990 Tube amps. They sound just like a Marshall but at 1/4 of the cost. 449.00 for a 120 Watt Tube head.

    i have a jcm 2000 dsl 100. i want the head version of this for its effects. now my question, can i use this and my jcm at the same time. meaning distortion threw jcm and effects thew this at the same time., or switching back and forth between older stuff (jcm) and newer heavy metal (this amp (head version) ) while using a pedal board for eq boost and some distortion, and noise supression. while playing threw single 4x12 cab. if not tell me what i need to make it work.

    The line 6 Bogner (Valve series) is NOT a modeling amp it just takes the digital effects and modeling of the popular Line 6 spider series and combines it with the Bogner all-tube amplification, it even says that at 1:17 in the video...

    I'm trying to decide between the Line 6 spider valve and then Blackstar ht-5 combo. Anyone have any opinions?
    I mainly play melodic instrumental rock and paul gilbert type metal. I only play in my bedroom so that watts are no problem.
    I like the spider valve because it has built in effects and probably better emulated output, but the blackstar has that ISF knob that can really change your tone.
    Thoughts/Comments would be appreciated!

    ive actually never heard the fender's distortion but while were in the business of naming of amps for distortion my top 3 are Laney, Mesa Boogie, or Peavey. In my opinion, but ill look up the fender now that youve got me curious.
