To this day, my best friend and I will text each other out of the blue, "Gimme somethin to write on man!", "Oh wow man I think the clock is slowwwww!", etc. Good times.
I sat in the front row of my social studies classroom in 7th grade. The teacher left a desk open in the front center. She would sit on the desk facing the classroom directly in front of me. Feet on the seat. One day she sat up there and her slip was showing. A girl yelled out, Ms. Crafts, your slip is showing. I turned ten shades of red and Ms. crafts said, "what the matter, David, never seen a slip before"? I bout fell out my chair. Now to put this in perspective, Ms. Crafts was a Playboy bunny in the late 60's. This was '77. She was so hot kids every year dug into their dad's boxes of Playboys and stole her centerfold. Brought to class and taped it on the chalkboard and pulled the projector screen down. When she came in, first day she would raise the screen and BOOM!, there she was, naked as a J Bird. Great memories and she was a great teacher too!! I'll never forget it for sure!
Van Halen (Hay-len) is the last name of the guitarist and drummer, who are brothers (Eddie and Alex). The singer is David Lee Roth, whom you keep calling 'Van'. 🤘😎🍻
Yeah, I was gonna tear him off a strip, but thanks for doing it for me. What the hell was that was the name? It’s like that woman that can’t see hippopotamus.
Wow, I can't believe you've gone this far in your musical journey and this is your first listen to Van Halen! You're in for a wild ride, man. Did you know, that the guitarist, Eddie Van Halen is considered by many to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Many of the greats name him as one of their inspirations. Wait till you see what he can do! I think you will really love their older stuff with the original singer David Lee Roth, and you'll also love the stuff they made with their second singer, Sammy Haggar too! Two totally different sounds, but one great band. Keep it goin', bruh!
Van Halen was pure fun along with elite music !! Eddie was always smiling as he was playing and it just added to the fun the whole band exuded ! One of the best rock bands of all time and my #1 !!🤘🤘
I wouldnt exactly say Sammy sucks. He definitely didnt belong in Van Halen, but his solo stuff and his stuff w Montrose was actually pretty good...hes just not David Lee, who in my opinion, fit Van Halen to a T.@@IZZY_EDIBLE

One time here in Hartford Ct,in around 1984 I believe ,Van Halen was playing one night at the Hartford Civic Center. Pouring rain out side before the show and who is riding a bicycle before the show??? David Lee Roth ,Lead singer of Van Halen!!! Got to talk to him for a couple of minutes,me and my friend, he was cool as hell!!! A little weird, but one of the GREATEST FRONTMAN IN ROCK HISTORY!!!
The other 3rd grade teacher at my school was an Olympic swimmer in her 20s. She was really pretty. We had a field day before spring break and this was early 80s and I clearly remember the blue gym shorts she wore... Again early 80s gym shorts were... short... Clearly recall seeing her demonstrate some the field events and getting that "special feeling"
Yo Shon loved the reaction! They have a pretty deep catalog - pure rock. Eddie played the lead solo on Michael Jackson’s song beat it. Really intense. They have another fun video like this called Panama - drums amazing. But for harder songs Ain’t talking about Love, Mean Streets, Unchained, the Cradle will rock and many more
In the early 90s bunch of us young Canadians on-route to Southern California meet *David Lee Roth* in a Northern California Albertsons Grocery. He invited us all to a pool party in the area but sadly we got lost 😥 (A Time Before GPS or Cell Phones)
My "wohaah" moment came in 10th grade. First class of the day was English and the teacher was Miss thisorthat of Wisconsin or our county and definitely hot. She liked to wear short skirts and sit on the edge of her desk at the front of the room. Those east facing windows brought in a lot of sunlight and one fine day a friend with a gold watch started to see the glint from his watch flashing around the room. He grabbed all of our attention with that shiny spec bouncing around and as we followed it, he suddenly dropped it right on the perfect spot. I couldn't hold back and laughed my ass off. Got kicked out of class! HaHaHa
Definitely one of the best music videos in the MTV era. Shon, as much as you like guitar solos, I'm surprised you haven't done more Van Halen. Eddie was a force to be reckoned with! He was one of the best.
Aww man, I was like in 7th or 8th grade when this came out. It sure does bring back memories. Also check out The Soul Searchers- Ashley’s Roach Clip. And also check out the Stop the Violance Movement- Self Destruction.
In my freshman year of college I took a mandatory writing class. It was a waste of time and met at 8 AM. The instructor was a grad student who probably had little or no experience as a teacher. But wow, was she gorgeous.
O man the 80’s I was in high school when this came out & boy did we wish are teachers looked like this. Also parents were so mad and this is tame compared to today
I was 14 when this came out. My math teacher was so freakin hot!!! just outa college. Unfortunately a senior beat me to her. They are still together I'm told.
I'm glad you got the humor from the very beginning, with Waldo. Some younger reactors don't get how it's funny. Great reaction! The drum parts of this are considered legendary, like very difficult for anyone besides Alex Van Halen to do. Also the Eddie Van Halen guitar solo is iconic. Great, fun song!
As a kid of the 70's & 80's, this album, song and video is pretty much as "80's" as it gets, and if there is a top ten list from that decade, this video would surely be on it. MTV was such a cultural phenomena at the time, and it is really hard to understand if you weren't there during it's best years. Sadly, like all good things, MTV went down the "reality TV" rabbit hole(and music vids died a slow death), and one could argue they led to many of society's ills we live with today(but that's an argument for another time). I highly recommend watching Van Halen's cover of "Pretty Woman", as the video was actually banned from MTV back in the day and it is a fun watch(and probably even more 80's than this video, and not in a good way). LOL
It's Van HAY-len (although you're actually pronouncing it correctly in its original Dutch form). But loved your reaction to one of my favorite videos from my misspent youth. Last name of the guitarist and drummer; the lead singer is David Lee Roth and the bassist is Michael Anthony.
David Lee Roth (lead singer) was definitely a character. It’s part of what got him eventually thrown out of the band, drawing too much attention to himself. Check out his solo stuff, “Just a Gigolo/I Ain’t Got Nobody” or his remake of the Beach Boys’ “California Girls” to see his character. He was replaced by Sammy Hagar. Sammy was less of a character but more of a pure rocker of the era. “Poundcake” tends to be a reactor’s favorite of that Van Halen era (sometimes referred to as “Van Hagar”). He also had a solo career before Van Halen (“I Can’t Drive 55” is a fun one).
OK, the lead singer David Lee Roth is a freaking character, so you just have to check out his video "I'm Just a Gigilo," one of the funniest music videos you'll ever see!!!
Loved your reaction. One of the greatest controversies after Eddie passed was the emphasis on his ex-wife Valerie (she has a cooking show). Despite Eddie and Valerie both remarrying, Eddie's widow was overlooked and Valerie's husband actually left her because of the media attention on her after her ex-husband's passing. In the 80s, the battle was between Eddie Van Halen and Angus Young, as to who played the axe better.
Ok, so in high school back in the dinosaur days (1970s) although things were changing most of the elective classes were still divided along gender lines. Like there might've been a guy or three taking Home Economics, or a girl or two taking shop or auto mechanics but mostly they were either guys or girls. This was also true for typing (on manual typewriters!) class where it was usually just girls but then my junior year they got a new teacher fresh out of teacher school. Miss Moye was a young redhead with a killer smile, a super nice personality, and was hot to boot. All of a sudden there were four or five guys in her classes, myself included. I even took the advanced class and ended up a great at typing
Another great reaction, however, I scrolled down the comments a bit and see alot of people saying how good Eddie was on guitar, but not ONE suggestion for his "Eruption" guitar solo for me to upvote😅. 12 minutes of his greatness.....buckle up!

Most people never pay attention to how it starts with one rhythm and then more are added in succession without losing what's already there. It's just soooo good!
The singer of Van Halen is David Lee Roth. If you thought this video was hilarious, you should watch the video of California Girls. When David broke away from the group, he redid the Beach Boy's California Girls. Now that one is hilarious, can't wait for you to react to that one. Love your reactions, always do.
