The Necromancer! Love when someone discovers this amazing track. Great reaction!
@@jhay4324 thank you, glad you enjoyed! 🤗🤟
A much overlooked classic, my favourite Rush song, simply magic. Note about the lyrics, at the beginning, he sings “three travellers, men of Willowdale”. Willowdale is the area of Toronto where Geddy and Alex grew up.
Yes, I believe the narration is by Neil.
@@mikedown3219 i thought so 🤗
My favorite thing about the Necromancer is that its like a 12 minute Alex Lifeson solo.
that's a great way to look at it!
My favorite album from then As a teen i wore the grooves out of this album This song and the Fountain are the reasons i favor early Rush
@@garya7893 i can totally understand that. I would have too and acted the song out in my living room lol. I was a strange child....🙃
This was probably my favorite Rush album also in my favorite song from this album is lakeside Park but you have to admit the album fly by night was a masterpiece
In my humble opinion it’s some of Alex’s greatest work
Loved this album from the moment it was released
I have been listenng to this for 47 years now. Always awesome and it never gets old. One of my favorites.
This was the first song I heard (there are better examples, but I heard this first) that made me realize the favorite guitarists of mine were merely sophomoric in talent compared with Alex Lifeson, a hidden (really in plane sight) gem in he world of guitarists that is severely underrated.
It wasn't much longer after this song, in my Rush journey, that Alex rose to the top of my list. My favorite guitarist of all time. I am among the few and the proud that can declare without hesitation that my favorite guitarist, bassist and drummer are all in my favorite band. Any other Rush fans out there that feel the same? With true renowned GOAT musicians to back up our opinions.
Yes, yes, and yes!!! Who can one name who is better than any of these three guys at their instruments? I can't!
Alex is only underrated to the you but in Canada he is the king and was already known for his talent when he was 16. Comparable to Gretzky my friends
So true. They are my best in each of their instruments for me too
Good day Rush Sister!
Another of their imaginative story telling bangers I do love the Fountain of Lamneth a wee bit more. This is an excellent album.
I love that you tackled The Necromancer… Well done 👊🏻
@@KennethSavage-nn2vv i loved it, best music that came out from such a young trio!
Alex could do this in his mid twenties, and he isn't widely considered one of the greatest of all time. Make that make sense. Great reaction!!!!
@@andyreid6826 I've never heard anyone that could play like him
He was about 23!!
@@donovanemery597 just a baby
@@WhimsyMeadows amazing what they went on to produce in the next few years
I always felt that this should have been part of a movie soundtrack. The music perfectly makes you imagine something out of LOTR with a journey through a magical world filled with unseen terrors.
@@gregcormier2379 an animation with this song would be cool
Listening to this album in 1975, while seeing them in October of 1975 for the first time, was an experience! All 3 of them are just outstanding in various parts of this eclectic song! Once I heard 2112 in the spring of 1976, starting in early 1977, I saw them 5 more times in the next 5 years! So glad for YT & all the videos of later concerts! Since they got even better with age!
@@WhimsyMeadows definitely would be worth it to complete this masterpiece. Look forward to seeing your animation to this song.
@@gregcormier2379 I wish I could give more than one thumbs up to this suggestion!!!
@@winstonhewett6679 i think they improved greatly over the years. Better with age like fine wine
Love this....and the fact The Necromancer, The Fountain of Lamneth....and I Think I'm going Bald are all from the same album🤣.....good call Whimsy
@@kengregory6026 glad you enjoyed, this story (song) was out of this world!
Possibly Geddys best vocal performance ever
Rush's dabble into acid rock. Just great
They were smoking a lot of weed when they recorded this album.
Recipe for success when it comes to creative stuff!
What a fabulous reaction! You put a lot of effort into this. You are so adorable!....carry on with more Rush please because you get it.
@@JLCDNSRB thank you, so glad you enjoyed 😊 I will def continue my journey with Rush, I'm hooked now and there's no turning back. 😁🤗🤟
When of my all-time favorite songs. For those of us who love the sound of an electric guitar it doesn’t get much better than this. Alex’s tone on this has never been better. From the powerful, blistering guitar in the middle, to the beautiful melody at the end. It’s even better listening to this in the dark where your mind can really visualize the story.
Oh Whimsy, your intro was awesome, fit the song perfectly!!! I really love this song from an originally horribly under-rated album that has stood up very well over time. My theory is that it was just too heavy for it's day, but not for me. Terry Brown really went berserk on the production of this one! My favorite for listening with headphones.
@@scottdpublic lol so glad you enjoyed, had a bit of fun there 😆
I think I like The Fountain Of Lamneth better than The Necromancer but it could be just that its twice as long and more is better than less when it comes to Rush. 😊
@@Fred-vy1hm i could legit listen to them all day
OH, everybody don’t forget to mention, they were high AF when they made this. True story Geddy says it in Beyond the Lighted Stage: “I think we were pretty high when we wrote that, we were smoking a lot of hash.”🤘🖖✌️🤣🎸🥁🎤🎸👍
@@ZIG4ZAG20 maybe I was too when I reacted to it 😜
Neil had been reading Tolkien, the necromancer is an avatar of Sauron in the Hobbit
The last solo Alex said now let me play as fast as I can on this part and see if there's anyone that I can inspire. Speed metal was born
@@DaveMuday lol that sounds about right to me
I feel this song and By-Tor are the two best pre-2112 Rush songs by a long shot! You give me the choice between these two and Working Man/Anthem/Bastille Day, and I'm gonna choose those two every time.
They called the tour for this album the 'down the tubes' tour, since their record company told them the next album had to have short radio friendly songs, even as their fans were loving their music. They decided that wasn't what they were and wanted, so they gave the record company the middle finger and wrote 2112. No more record company interferene, they wrote what they wanted to play.
Back in the day, this song was the measuring stick on whether you were a true rush fan or not. I have loved this song since the first time I heard it as a child.😂🔥🤘🏻
@@jimtatro6550 how truly amazing it must have sounded to you back then
Great reaction! Love this song.
@@BrendaHughes-e6s loved all the dynamics
Your going to love this one 🤯 written in their early 20's
@@kelvinmann1058 it blew my mind for sure 😆
@@WhimsyMeadowsYour to fast, I edited my comment. They were only in their early 20's when they did this.
@@kelvinmann1058 and I can't believe they created this masterpiece at such a young age
@@WhimsyMeadows It boggles the mind, especially when you compare it to most of the new music today 🤔
Very rocking, Whimsy. So fun 🎉
Thank you! 🤗
@WhimsyMeadows My pleasure.
Damn!! 😮😮😊😊😊 What a trip. Look up! 6 planets line up.
Some of the best guitar work in Rush history is on this album.
You are in the rabbit hole for sure Milady!! I love it! Great song to have s€% to! 😅
@@markotto9855 😆
Neil was a true poet, who could tell a story!!! Along with play a decent drum kit! LOL!
@@winstonhewett6679 such a creative mastermind!
Wow!!
I got really scared at first. I thought oh no, a demon has possessed our Whimsy Meadows! Glad you're okay.
@@crucify40 lol it was touch n go for a moment there, but I pulled through 😄🤗🤟
Masterpiece
Hey whimsey did I tell you or what .thank you for finally playing the necromancer .Alex's guitar work is great
@@SteveTurpin-g6j i truly enjoyed it. Thank you!🤗🤟
amazing stuff
The band was still finding their musical identity during this period. They grew a lot making this album, although ultimately, they bit off a little more than they could chew. It would have been interesting if they had delayed doing this same album until they were at their peak in the early to mid 1980s. I bet it would have been amazing and a smash hit. As it is, it's still a very solid if precocious effort.
Spectacular on so many levels. I love the album and it’s in the Rush album top 5 the only thing that has the same vibe is Iron Maiden Brave new World and Marillion Live in the Albert Hall the Space 😅
I thought I was watching 'The Conjuring' at the start 🤣xx
@@michaelatkinson8291 lmao I can be scary too yes? 😈🤪😂
I enjoy The Necromancer but my favorite from this album is The Fountain of Lamneth.
@@cpmf2112 can't wait to hear it
@@WhimsyMeadowsI just realized I wasn't subscribed somehow, doh!
@@cpmf2112 for shame for shame lol
Neil is the Orator
We never got any more By-tor sequels, just the two, 😢
This one did set itself up for another chapter because The Necromancer flees only to 'darken another land with that evil prism eye..'
Was Neil actually planning a sequel when he wrote those last lines?
@@markjohnson4217 i bet you he was. You just never know with Neil what went on in that genius mind of his
When this came out I played this album over and over and drove my band mates crazy with it. Their label actually hated it and Rush considered it one of their least successful tours. It was always one of favorites.
I love the documentary “ beyond the lighted stage” where members of kiss said rhatvrush played them this album and the members of kiss ( as well as the studio and the world ) said “ what is this?!?!
Fountain of Lamneth is a good overall song. I think I’m going bald is a travesty to Rush’s legacy. Let’s not all go overboard on congratulating this album . And I’m a huge Rush fan of over 40 years . The c😮mown teas right to tell them “ hey, make something people will buy or you’re done. “
To which they made 2112 as a big middle finger . And the rest is history . So this album had to happen .
FYI.... ytube is removing some of my reactions for seemingly wrong reasons..... you are awesome though!!! Jesus Love 2 you!!!
@@Buds1own yeah, they demonitized my channel before they could pay me $150. I tried to appeal but it didn't work.
In my opinion the record didn't sell well because it was way before it's time and way over peoples head. Like Paul Stanley's.. lol
please??? never again enter a RUSH song like that??? Thanks....... Unworthy....... Butttt ,..... U R LOVED!!! ♥
Why not?
Best band....ever. 😁
