    I was so afraid of snakes until the pandemic had me bored one day and UA-cam suggested a Snake Discovery video. I absolutely love Emily and Ed and from the moment I binge watched her videos I had to get a snake. Orginally I was fascinates by Hognose's but read they can be problem eaters. Started researching and came across Predator BP and and Olympus Reptiles. I was hooked completely with Ball Pythons from there on. Watched all the videos I could, went to the library's online books and read as many as they had. 5 months later went to my first reptile expo and held my very first snake. That breeder was the only one that was patient and answered all my questions. She has been with us 7 months now and in March we added a second girl to the family. Just recently found your channel about 2 months ago but your information is amazing. Love all your videos. Keep putting out the awesome info and content :-)

    I'm doing an apprenticeship as a librarian and got confronted with this topic of misinformation, just wanted to add(even if its one year too late) even peer-reviewed articles can be misinformative, there's a thing called predatory journals and from what I know, they publish articles "just to make money" so they are going for quantity and not quality, which true scientific journals do not, well for the most part. What those jpurnals do is basically charging the authors a publication fee and just dont test the article for quality and authenticity, so yeah that's that ^^" I love your videos and thank you for so much information, I'll soon get a ball python and i've already researched quite a lot and your channel is by far the most informative and its also very humorous. Again thanks! and as a reminder for everyone: Please take care and think before you believe in something and as Bob made it clear already, every information can be made up, repurposed or taken out of context

    Peer reviewed papers can be agenda driven as well. It’s common with anti-2A studies. They receive money from anti 2A lobbies and they recruit anti-2A students to conduct the research.. you end up with a lot of deception (like cherry-picked datasets) and other misinfo. It’s frustrating when you want to have an honest discussion with people on all sides.
    I think that knowledge has helped me approach new subjects with an open mind. I don’t seek a single source on UA-cam - I may seek 5 or 6 until I get a feel for the channel’s reputations. Given the multiple sources, it gets easier to spot bad info, opinion, or bias.
    Thanks for attending my Ted talk.

Before I got my snake I did a bunch of research and it all seemed to say keep humidity between 50-60% and feed every week or two, after I get my snake I started seeing a bunch of research that agreed 60% humidity is not enough and they eat slightly more than once a month.

    Thanks for all the info. I just got my first ball python given to me by my neighbor. He is probably almost a yr old & I was told they had him for a month and he hasn't eaten yet. I have learned so much by watching your videos and a few other people but so far your my favorite. I had him 2 days now and his previous owner had him in a super big glass cage with a heat lamp. I now have him in a 25 gallon with a heat pad and heat regulator. With a hide water bowl and a mix of aspen & bark only cuz I didn't want to waste the aspen I started with. Switching to the full bark next time. Trying to feed him on frozen baby rat tonight so far no luck, but watching your videos has eased my anxiety about him not eating. Lol trying the vanilla in a couple days if this don't work.

      So I got an update for you. I have tried to feed him Frozen rat. Did the vanilla thing And he came out looking around like he was looking for food. I wiggled him around a little bit and stuff and came up right to it and then went away. I sat the frozen thawed rat on a lid in the tank and all he did is slither all around it. It kind of looked like he was looking for the food but he didn't recognize the Frozen rat as food. Of course I heated it up in hot water first in a plastic bag. So I went and I got a live rat today. This is definitely going to be a lot harder than I thought the damn rat is cute. Lol So I gave the rat its last meal a little bit of cheese and some water. I'm going to wait till around night time and see if I can get him to eat. I know in your videos you say that sometimes you just have to do this. So I'm doing this one and hoping to be able to get him on Frozen soon do you have any tips on how to get him transferred over to Frozen I really think the people that had them before we're feeding him live rat.

    • @GreenRoomPythons
      @GreenRoomPythons  3 роки тому

      Hi Jasper! If you can get the heat and humidity correct in the tank, you can make it a nice visual piece. The tub is a little more convenient, but either one works great for a snake as long as you can maintain the right heat and humidity.

    A bit harder to get through for non-native speakers (because it is in German, but it has subtitles) is the youtube channel reptil.tv of Stefan Broghammer. He is probably the biggest reptile breeder and the ball python guru in Germany. Great tips, some are a bit outdated by now and he is sort of softly pushing his products , so take it with a grain of salt. But he does make trips to West Africa, to show the natrual habitat of the snakes, which I have found very useful.

The seller only feeds live and said he doesn’t keep F/T around so he wouldn’t be able to start the baby on that before shipping. Is it asking for trouble to get this snake?

    I am having this issue now. I finally managed to give my BP his first meal, and then I left him be for 48 hours. Before all of this, he would sleep all day, roam the enclosure in the night, and he would leave the enclosure on his own. I was handling him daily, interspersing this handling with free roam. He seemed to be enjoying the exploring and interacting.
    I fed him Nov 12, and it seems all he does is stay put in his warm hide. In the night he sticks his head just at the door of his hide. He looks right at me, but doesn’t leave the enclosure. I lifted the hide, to check the temperature, all seems ok.
    I miss hanging with him, but I want to give him his space and let him also have say in his activities. I’m just concerned about his behavior/activity.

    • @GreenRoomPythons

      Ball pythons (especially babies) can be very defensive. If they see movement, sometimes they'll strike defensively because they think it's a predator. They usually don't bite while being handled, but any animal can bite at any time. A ball python bite is really nothing though. It's fast and startling but you barely feel it :-)
