Why did the Indus Valley Civilization Adopt the Binary System? | Dr. Sarmad Abbasi

- The binary system has been adopted by modern scientists and engineers for a practical reason: it - to this date - is the most efficient way of representing and manipulating integers by computers. It is now the second most - if, not the most important - number system. Interest in its origins is, therefore, natural.
Archeologists and those who study ancient languages have concluded that the binary system was used about four thousand years ago in the Indus valley civilization.
This talk’s purpose is to introduce these discoveries to a broader community. Secondly, we study what practical reasons might have compelled them to adopt the binary system. It seems plausible that The Indus valley mathematicians were trying to solve a combinatorial optimization problem. This is interesting as it will establish that combinatorial optimization is an ancient art/science. Telling the story of the binary system’s origins can capture students’ interest, especially in South Asia. Lastly, connecting diverse fields, such as Archeology and studying ancient languages with mathematics, enriches our intellectual environment.
Dr. Sarmad Abbasi is to make this talk accessible to a general audience. He will use no more than 10th-grade mathematics.
The speaker must investigate the kezhadi escavations in madurai district in TN...
thanks to the team of the black hole for all the efforts and dedication you put in to create these priceless videos.
Very interesting thesis on IVC folks using the binary number system and logically possible too. Thanks to the doc. Overall, a thoroughly illuminating, enjoyable discussion, its connotation and extension to the usage of "anna"s and weighing of gold.
Oop! Looks Like Our Audience From Pakístan Couldn’t Relate Themselves With Indus Valley Civilisation.
Rather, Arab Or Turk Civilisation.
The Artist who who writes the Topic on the Blackboard is really very good artist, what's his/her name? Let's appreciate him/her.
One of the plausible reasons for the decline of Indus civilization is the disappearance of SARASWATI river due to tectonic disturbance; no river no habitant. Fun fact, in early Vedas, not Ganga, but Saraswati is considered the holiest river but then Saraswati dried out and the people moved towards other rivers mainly Ganga, and get assimilated. Also, interesting fact, archeologists have found a female in Rakhighari and were able to do DNA sequencing in which they found contemp[orary Indian people DNA matches with the DNA of the Rakhighari female which means that the people living in Indian subcontinent (Bharat) has the same ancestors but since its a female they couldnt get the Y chromosomes, hopefully they find a male. Also fun fact, they found horse chariot (Rath) in the excavation of Rakhighari.......
There is absolutely no evidence so far for a river called Saraswati. It's called Harappan civilization by the Archeological norms. It went extinct. There are quite a lot of nonsese surrounding the site of Rakhigarhi. No clear connections were established to say that it is linked to a sort of a wide 'empire' or culture eminating from the Harappan civilization.

Not rakhigari, but sinauli is the place of discovery of chariot
@@hawkingdawking4572Yes there is a lot of evidence and all is documented. If you close your eyes to them doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It is now a well established fact that Saraswati river existed and it's dried river bed is found. There are more than 1200 sites found in the IVC near and between Sindu and Saraswati river. Lot of expert archeologists have said on podcasts and a lot of materials and evidences are published.

Seriously what I couldn't help notice is the attendance. When it comes to connecting to roots, Pakistanis are totally disinterested. This in my view is really the root of all problems Pakistan face and even 'create' in the world
I am a Pakistani and I agree, learning about Indus valley civilization and our common ancestry was very interesting indeed
Why is attendance so low for such beautiful topic
… because it is not Islamic!
Because indus guys were smarter than current pakistanis
Very nice lecture! Aryan invasion theory was coined by Brits to justify their invasion of India, it has been proven wrong, then they reduced it to Aryan migration and now there are evidence that shows out of migration from India. This is amazing, it's like discovering a whole new world. Measuring scale like pavan (8g) is still used in Sri Lanka to measure gold.
In Tamizh, we often use the word 'Natchathiram' for stars, but there is also a less used word 'Vinmeen' which literally means Sky Fish (Sky = Vin, Fish = meen), mostly in poems, but it makes sense, ancient people were more into visual interpretations.
Read somewhere that Pashto language is very near to Dravidian languages.
Same in Malayalam too which is a mixture of the Middle Tamil and Sanskrit loan words.
Just like the West proudly owns Greek (Pegan) civilization. You should do the same, simply because at some point you will somewhere run out of grounds(With this approach). It might be detrimental to an unbiased educated mind. Stop hiding behind IVC, you know what I mean.
Also I will recommend Dr. C K Raju's where he talks about a new approach to Ganit(Maths). Don't blindly copy West. Please don't mind, thanks 🙏

Mehrgarh, Mohanjodaro, and Harappa civilizations were based on the use of braoze. Where was the civilization which came later and introduced the use of iron?
Indus Valley Civilization (IVC) was a bronze culture civilization. Iron was used in Ganga Valley Civilization (In Vedic Period).
@@sumitsagarg there is no such thing as 'Vedic or Ganga valley civilization'.

@@nkn987 Actually an land with 9000 yrs old urbanised history along the banks of OUR mighty Indus whereas you guys only managed urbanisation roughly 3000yrs ago along the banks of YOUR filth ridden Ganga....And that largely thanks to some pioneers from coterminous Pakistan, hence the legend of the Bharatas in your Puranic literature.Regards Ganga-dweller.
NB: I genuinely believe that if no migration from Coterminous Pakistan (during Mid-Iron age) to the forests of Ganga Basin, you self-proclaimed/bogus Indians would have been still no different than the Amazonian forest people, show some chivalry and give a big round of APPLAUSE to ancient Pakistanis for DOMESTICATING you savages.
Mehrgarh settlements predates Indus Valley Civilization, the former is the originator of the later, but the trade was already established between Mehrgarh culture and Mesopotamians long before Harappan period.
And Vedic culture has nothing to do with Indus valley culture, the former introduced in north-India by Aryan invaders from Central Asia.
