Tater’s laughter makes the trip much better. Really enjoy coming along for the ride. My wife and I put in at Roline on Oct 2, 2023. We enjoyed watching you stop and camp at the same places. Fortunately for us the water was much higher. We did three days and got out at Blue Sink Launch
Love that Taters is in the driver seat where she belongs. She can't steer a canoe from the front and you can't steer and film. I'd call it a win. Can't wait to see how low the temps got there. You guys have me thinking about a kayak trip down the Suwannee in my Pepto Bismol pink kayak, it definitely stands out and no one would ever steal it 😂. Kinda cool that the FT has provided you campsites. Hope you had a Merry Christmas. Happy paddling!
The Far Out app is a great tool for the FT. We use it while doing trail maintenance as we often have no service on some portions of the WMAs we maintain. The bubbles you were asking about could be most likely turtles, maybe a gator , or manatees, though manatees are pretty friendly so they most likely would surface near the boat out of curiosity. The best place to find manatees in the cold around those parts, are in the springs due to the constant water temps the springs hold. 😊
I’m loving it. Thanks so much for the videos. You make me wish I were able to fund your adventures so Jen could quit her job. You’re great on the trail alone, Matt, but the laughter is such a sweet addition.
So enjoying watching your trip "way down upon the Suwanee River". So entertaining and informative for those who may follow in your adventurous footsteps!!!!
Nice that you already had the Far Out resource and familiar (somewhat) with the area to help find campsites. I was wondering how buggy it was, but the dip in temp probably helped take care of that for a bit.
Navigation has much improved with Taters in the back! Of course, I am SURE that the previous issues were all due to the filming that Masochist was doing, and not due to any lack of skill by the "dude in the back". Just saying. Great trip, and here's hoping the winter blast does not freeze you both solid! Paddle on (while breaking the ice and watching out for icebergs!). Tortoise
I prepped using CalTopo and moved everything to Gaia iPhone app for the actual trip. I plan to do a “how we did this” video but haven’t had clear time to record in the last few weeks. When you get the permit from the water dirstrict they also send you a guide
@@randomlife718 technically to disperse camp on the Suwannee River Water District land you need a free permit from them. And when you put in for it they mailed me a physical map and guide to the entire river. It’s not necessary from the perspective of worrying about enforcement but I tend to follow the rules on things like this. It gives lots of worry free camping options if your not just sticking to the river camps
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes I didn't know having a permit for it was a thing. I don't live far from it. I your videos about this trip. Getting conversations going in the comment section really help boost the algorithm. I appreciate your time.
I knew about it because of having down the Florida trail a number of years ago. Granted that’s another one where I’m pretty sure most people didn’t get the permit. And honestly it’s really only if you prefer wild camping to the river camps and RV campgrounds
Bowfin (also known by southerns as mudfish, dogfish many other names). They have air bladders. Very prehistoric there not invasive . * Not too be confused with snakehead fish like a lot of ignorant human do/kill/discard.
I'm really not sure if we were seeing a creature or just a gas release from the bottom. I noticed in a few places with rotting leaves and such walking around on the shore triggered a massive amount of bubbles

You should! Really easy to find camping since it’s legal on the water district land and plenty of places to get food and water
The reflections are amazing. Thanks for taking us along :)
That water reflection shot off the cliffs was amazing!
Thanks, looks like fun. ✌🏻👊
OMG those reflections. How amazing!!

Thanks Y’all for sharing your Suwannee river trip. Most beautiful & mystical river in Florida, IMHO.🙏☮️

No real bug issues. When it was warm at the start we had some drifting on the water but it’s mostly been far too cold
Well, it took four days, but the canoe is magically tracking correctly now. Go figure.
Try the Arizona Tea gallon jugs, they are great.

What apps or maps did you use? I need to be a little more prepared than I am right now. I'm going soon. Your videos were right on time.

So you wonder if it really gets that high. As I’m watching this the Suwannee just started receding. It was over 71 feet the last week.
Hey I'm really enjoying the videos. Could the air bubbles be alligators?
We didn't see any sign of gators until we were in the last 60 miles or so. Usually they seem to spook into the water when you get closer
The Suwannee has sturgeon.
🦋
Is that normal for the river to be so low this time of the year?
For real, snuggle up!
That was a banana spider. Yes.. they are poisonous.
technically, all spiders are venomnous.
Orb spider or banana?

Good choice on the position switch. Taters is a much better paddler...just saying.
i might have asked this before any gators
river camp, lot'sa firewood.. 🥴
D a n g, didn't intend to spend this much time watching, B U-U T, here I am...still,
