Nice to have a meticulous, steady, understandable approach presented in auto rehabilitation!

Sister had a Spitfire Mk2, what a cobbled piece of engineering! It ran pretty good but was scary to drive as the suspension was so loose. So my other sister tops her and buys a Fiat 850! Oh boy...both convertibles had wooden dashboards and you could get splinters from the bottom of them. The Fiat had wires spilling out from under the dash and it never ran 100%, she sold it 3 months later to her mechanic and saw it burning on side of freeway 2 weeks after that, true story. Im putting same carb on my Mazda pickup.

Based on experience with my 2 77 MGB's you're going to need a Chiropractor 🤣

You should have pulled the plugs first, squirted some ATF and acetone down the cylinders. Then turned the motor over by hand using the bolt on the front of the crankshaft.

Not shown in the video, I did turn the crankshaft to confirm it was not seized. Thank you for your feedback, I hope the video was entertaining and that you will continue to follow the project.

Hi Doc, I just recently purchased a 1977 MGB as well. Mine is a bit more rusty than yours because I live in Illinois but I recently did the same thing and got mine running. Mine however has the stock SU HIF4 carb that I rebuilt. It was a bit easier than that after market Weber you are using. Instead of having to clean the starter I had to replace all the fuses and the starter relay. It turned right over after that. I went through two fuel filters and that cleaned the gunk coming from the fuel tank. Now I am working on the rest. I have a lot of body work to do along with trans, diff, suspension, etc to do. Good luck and don't give up. It is about the journey.

Thank you for your encouragement! Feel free to keep me updated on your journey. just learned something very interesting about the transmission that think you will find useful- there are two switches on the Non-overdrive transmission unit. One is for the reverse light, and the other has something to do with emissions as it ties into the distributor in some way. You don't need it so don't worry about it. Apparently it only helps with MPG by about 1 mpg in 4th gear.

If you haven't done so already get a copy of the Bently repair manual. You'll be glad you did. Make sure it covers 1975 thru 1980, as there are two versions of the book. The carb you have in this video isn't what was original when car was built. The Haynes book is ok but doesn't go into as much detail.

I didn't even know about the Bently repair manual! I have a Haynes manual which I have found to be incomplete in terms of their diagrams and repair instructions. I hope you will continue to watch and enjoy the content. It's a pleasure to have you.

How goes the project?? I have a right-hand drive 1980 MGB that belonged to my father in Scotland. Was in great shape when I shipped it over to Canada, but sadly the interior was trashed by squirrels and it sat in a barn for too long. Hoping to one day convert it to an electric version. Any advice from anyone reading this would be much appreciated!

i'm confused. I recently bought a 77 mgb with the aftermarket weber carb and it was turned 180 degrees from how yours is. It was a pain to take off and put back on after a rebuild. I made the mistake of putting it on the way yours is and it was much easier to bolt back up and then I looked at the photo I took before and saw I had it on bass ackwards? I think I'm going to try it again the way yours is installed and see how it goes.

Nice little project. Don't know why some peeps say "get rid" as the MGB is such a simple car to work on and most parts are cheap? I have a GT and several Range Rovers.... plus Harleys so I get a lot of stick from "armchair critics" who heard from someone who heard from someone else etc.. etc.. In the US these little cars were never designed for route 66 travel so will always come up short against a yank tank, whereas here in the UK they are perfect for skipping around our country lanes.
