The awesome sequel Super C has been revamped in the new 8BS mix with improved quality (less echo/verb), text, and visual background: ua-cam.com/video/bwGq2An07t0/v-deo.html
In case anyone thinks the names for the stages in the description are too generic, have the names given in the manual! Level 1 - The Gates of Fort Fire Storm Level 2 - Fort Fire Storm's Mind Control Center Level 3 - Tropics of Torture Level 4 - Lair of the Jungle Aliens Level 5 - Massacre Mountains Level 6 - Jagger Froid's Fruit-of-the-Doom Defense Line Level 7 - Radioactive Lava Fields Level 8 - Red Falcon's Poison Palace of Peril
Without comparing the sequels that went to disc (ps1 and on), Super C is probably my fave of the series too! It just had a great overall flow to the game! Like Wiiguy says, Contra 1 was too easy can easily be finished without dying. I never got to play Contra 3 on nes, Genesis Contra was over the top hard and although the wolfman and robot were cool characters, they kind of took away the "traditional" Contra feel. Contra: Alien Wars was great, but the top view levels were too gimmicky for me and points lost for not bringing back Lance (Sly) & Bll (Arny)!
2ndLastStarfighter Contra: Pretty easy, especially with the code. Beaten it numerous times on XBLA. Super C: My personal favorite. Contra III: The Alien Wars: I'd go a step further and say that the overhead stages are fucking terrible and disorienting. Contra Force: Terrible, the only reason I want it is because my friend owns it and he lost the game like a dumbass and the soundtrack is pretty cool. Contra: Hard Corps.: DEAR GOD, this game is hard but damn, it hurts so good. Easily my pick for the better of the two 16 BIT Contra games. AND BONUS FEATURE: Operation C: It's Super C, with Contra's music, on the go. PLAY IT.
Having played Contra, Super C, Contra III and Contra Hard Corps (I haven't finished this one though), I would also rank them like that. Super C is the best I've played so far in all aspects IMO. The first Contra is a piece of cake when you realize that S+R weapon makes you virtually unstoppable. In Super C it still gives a massive advantage (especially against some really annoying bosses) but it is harder to keep through the game because the levels and enemy spawning are more random, which makes each playthrough different and, therefore, special and challenging in an entertaining way. Contra III is also pretty hard and fun, but I also found the overhead stages to be a pain in the ass and, personally, I didn't find the soundtrack and level design as great as the ones from the NES games. In any case, it is one of the best 2D action games series ever made and an excellent pastiche/homage to 80's sci fi action movies, especially from the AvP universe. They literally touched the line of "ripoff" putting carbon copies of the xenomorphs (and even Engineer helmets) in some stages. Thank god nobody went ridiculous because of that like nowadays and tried to sue Konami.
Ah sweet. My bad, just been on a NES games soundtrack binge as of late so you've been an awesome source man! Thanks ya kindly and I'll shall wait patiently then! WOOH~!
Always loved Super C's music, as a kid and still now as an adult, reminded me of Terminator movie for some reason, especially the Steel Spider mini-boss tune ;)
I loved the orchestra hit in this soundtrack. It totally got you pumped. Sadly, Konami began to use that sound way, way too often in subsequent soundtracks to the point where it began to overshadow the otherwise great tunes. Sunset Riders and TMNT4 come to mind. As a kid, whenever I'd hear orchestra hits any place after, say 1992, I'd instantly thinik, there's the "Konami sound." It seemed somehow more epic when used sparingly in this and other NES (especially) soundtracks back in the day.
I remember Xmas morning in 1990 I think it was...my friend got this, and the first thing he did was came over to my house and we played for a few hours. It was such a fantastic game. This music always brings that memory back.
Some good memories playing this game back in the day, as a kid. A few years back, I finally figured out how to beat the game without dying. It's all about patterns and timing.
I agree with you said, as a long-time fan, Super C is in non-ranked top 3 for me. Along with Shattered Soldier and Hard Corps WHICH ALSO managed to get the level of kickassery contained in the gameplay/music right, you know, the feeling when you launch the game and instantly know it's gonna be fully badass to the end. Shattered soldier ESPECIALLY has a badass soundtrack, I recommend checking it out.
Okay awesome, thanks for the explanation! That's a pretty good reason, keep up the great work and looking forward to more in the future! Especially hoping you can tackle Power Blade or the TMNT games someday, those'd be one hell of a treat for the ears haha!
+Bardock best stage? I think its between area 4 & 5; never liked those those overhead stages as much as the usual ones, but to be fair, there's only two of them, and the boss is kick ass!
Something I find funny about stage 6 is that it deceptively looks as the final stage when it isn't (its diabolical boss and his dramatic entrance creates a "final battle" feeling). Ironically, if I'm not mistaken a new version of that boss is used as the final enemy in Contra III Alien Wars.
The first track is so awesome. You can see they try really hard right at the kick off with that heavy sounding noise using as many channels as they can... and then on the middle of the track... WOOM WOOM WOOM. So awesome.
Awesome series man. keep it up! You should do some kind of retrospective video on some of the best 8 bit composers and the tech/processes they used to get their sound. You seem to know your stuff on 8 bit music and I would love to hear your opinions and insight about it. Thanks again.
Progressive Rock in 8 bits! Everytime I listen to ''The Dance of Eternity'' by Dream Theater, there's a part of the song that reminds me of Super Contra. Maybe because that part sounds like spiders and stuff lol
this soundtrack just isn't the same without the sounds of constant gunfire, you screaming and crying out of frustration and everyone around you telling you to calm the fuck down
+maxcandostuff Yeah, I keep listening to hear "doopf" when badguys are blasted and that familiar "teenteenteen" noise when you hit something that takes a few hits. Doesn't sound right otherwise.
The arcade versions of these tracks are also quite formidable, in their own right. Stage 5's music didn't land in the arcade version, but it almost did. Look for "M3" as part of the arcade Super Contra tracks.
I'm getting a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon vibe from this OST when slowed to 75% speed. Not all songs, but in the majority of them there is a kind of melody of forward, steady progress wrought with danger and eccentricity.
I think this is pretty underrated sequel. I beat this game with my friend few days ago. It was in a weird pirate cartridge along with RoboCop 2, Turtles II and three other games. Good music (first song has some 16 bit sounds) and good controls + nice graphics. Final two stages were pain in the ass (but 30 lives code saved us) :DDD Not anything special but still a lot of fun...
Yeahhh, I remember this game,Up Up Down Down B A B A select select start you got the Thirty or Ten lives (depending which Contra game you use this on)then ready to shoot Alien Red Falcon Asss! Wooooo!
the whole soundtrack of Super C is amazing but my favorite track is Stage 3 @ 4:08, the track makes you feel you are in the jungle fighting some alien bastards
+Sergio Gabriel Velasquez Vasquez Yep, I'd say all Contra soundtracks sound a lot like 8-bit versions of thrash/heavy metal from 80's, lots of similar dynamics, rhythms and stuff, which definitely fits well with the gameplay. On Contra Force soundtrack this influence is even more apparent.
@Xavieros Falsename The official title is "Super C", but it is supposed to be Super Contra. Although personally I think they should have named this game "Contra 2", and saved "Super Contra" for Contra 3 for the SNES, that would have made more sense.
+Thomas Barke I think it was named Super C in North America, as it came out during the "Iran Contra Affair", and a title such as Super Contra might have carried negative annotations and/or hurt sales of the game.
Actually I believe the Japan release does have a 30 lives code; however, I may be confusing that with Contra III: The Alien Wars for the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo, so don't quote me on that :)
There ar many guys playing metal covers from the first Contra game and few doing for Super C. I wonder why, Super C OST is pretty cool too. At times I like it more.
It's not just you. The theme seems like it's being played multiple times faster than what we remember from the game. Damn shame.... I rather like that piece.
Hey man, newer fan of this series here but is there a reason some of the recent uploads don't have a d/l link? I've actually been getting these and jamming out while making a game of my own lately haha, anyways keep up the good work! Would love to snag this ost off you if you ever post a link
anyone know what this game has in relation to the aliens franchise. I swear when I was little and playing this game, there was one level where these things looked like alien eggs with facehuggers jumping out of them. Also the final boss looks like that thing in the movie prometheus.

Gotta say that box art is a pretty good representation of what's in the game.
One of the most manly soundtracks ever
Is MANLIEST, my english is getting bad lately
My pecs have increased in size just listening to this. I'm straight flexing.
phuturephunk
Listening to this Soundtrack makes your hears produce testosterone...
Omega Rugal Yeah, you become for a few minutes in John Fucking Rambo
Or Colonel John Fucking Matrix.
One of the best game and soundtrack of all time!!! Konami rules
the ending... the pinnacle of epic ness....
6:26 is when the soundtrack settles into its groove.
I love you Super C!
Recuerdos de mi magnifica infancia-.... los mejores
Probably my favorite Contra game. It's certainly the one I'd played the most since it's the only one I found at a decent price.
Oh yeah this is one of the best Contra games to me, first Contra is too easy, but this one, more challenging and fun!

Actually, I think Super C is easier than Contra, IMO
Ah sweet. My bad, just been on a NES games soundtrack binge as of late so you've been an awesome source man! Thanks ya kindly and I'll shall wait patiently then! WOOH~!
This game was soo amazing back then...
Always loved Super C's music, as a kid and still now as an adult, reminded me of Terminator movie for some reason, especially the Steel Spider mini-boss tune ;)
I LOVE THIS GAME I LOVE THIS SOUNDTRACK THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU ARE AMAZING
I loved the orchestra hit in this soundtrack. It totally got you pumped. Sunset riders has some great music, although I agree there's forgetable tracks on it as well.
Unforgettable boss theme :)
The music is something very memorable for me, and the sound effects are a blast, too. I love the music in the jungle, the best area in the game.
I remember Xmas morning in 1990 I think it was...my friend got this, and the first thing he did was came over to my house and we played for a few hours. It was such a fantastic game. This music always brings that memory back.
8:26 - The main reason I'm here :)
me too:)
yessss
I'm thinking about using Contra music to wake me up in the morning :). I think this will work perfectly.
I remember Stage 6 was a pain. Thanks for uploading.
One of the best Game Music from Video Games
Some good memories playing this game back in the day, as a kid. A few years back, I finally figured out how to beat the game without dying. It's all about patterns and timing.
JUEGASO !!! Y traian buenas piezas que le emocionaban a uno todo!!! Thanks man, for bring my childhood back to 2013... :-)
I always thought these songs would make awesome metal tunes. I remember loving the music in this game even as a kid
Shattered soldier ESPECIALLY has a badass soundtrack, I recommend checking it out.
that's why is super!
Epicness!!!
5:51 a bit fast but damn that metal bastard never missed a beat walking. Also loved how it played near the end of the game then bad things happen
An other master piece of its time
I played many arcades in my day , however never a Contra arcade . I do not want to die a man that has never played a Contra arcade !
I've never seen any of the original Contra arcade games whatsoever, but I have played Contra for the NES on a PlayChoice 10.
This game and soundtrack are both so massively underrated. Maybe the best soundtrack on the NES imo
Okay awesome, thanks for the explanation! That's a pretty good reason, keep up the great work and looking forward to more in the future! Especially hoping you can tackle Power Blade or the TMNT games someday, those'd be one hell of a treat for the ears haha!
Gates of Fort Fire Storm is easily the best track in the entire game
thanks for putting this up man. i jam out to this while im shredding the streets with my kawasaki ninja, lol
yeah took me 23 years to beat this game
Sounds great
Finally this soundtrack! Man, this game is HARD, can't get passed the first level.
Music has sometimes sound effects that make it sound like 16bit music. Great soundtrack!
Classic Konami right here. Some of their best work.
Love this. 5:51 Steel Spider is sped up though.
listen on 0.75 speed.
I love when the best stage has the best song. Area 6 @ 9:36
+Bardock best stage? I think its between area 4 & 5; never liked those those overhead stages as much as the usual ones, but to be fair, there's only two of them, and the boss is kick ass!

Ironically, if I'm not mistaken a new version of that boss is used as the final enemy in Contra III Alien Wars.
Aries Shion I discovered this song yesterday and must had listen to it 20 times!!
Stage 6 was the original final stage (and boss) in the arcade version.
Oh god how I love stage 5...
The first track is so awesome. You can see they try really hard right at the kick off with that heavy sounding noise using as many channels as they can... and then on the middle of the track...
WOOM WOOM WOOM. So awesome.

How could anyone give this a thumbs down?
9:36
Jagger froid.
Best soundtrack.
Creepiest level
i knowwwww
Workout music.
Y babe
Под неё идеально жать штангу и бегать.
this soundtrack just isn't the same without the sounds of constant gunfire, you screaming and crying out of frustration and everyone around you telling you to calm the fuck down
+maxcandostuff Yeah, I keep listening to hear "doopf" when badguys are blasted and that familiar "teenteenteen" noise when you hit something that takes a few hits. Doesn't sound right otherwise.

as i much i love super c music i play the game still on my emulator thanks wiiguy for uploading the music
playing Helldivers 2 to this is a great feeling
I'm getting a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon vibe from this OST when slowed to 75% speed. Not all songs, but in the majority of them there is a kind of melody of forward, steady progress wrought with danger and eccentricity.
Konami made quite a bit use of that "orchestra hit" during a lot of their Super C tracks. Kind of overused, but still pretty cool.
I think this is pretty underrated sequel. I beat this game with my friend few days ago. It was in a weird pirate cartridge along with RoboCop 2, Turtles II and three other games. Final two stages were pain in the ass (but 30 lives code saved us) :DDD Not anything special but still a lot of fun...
Babalu Defense Mechanism is slower in the actual game. Play at 75% speed to get the proper feel
This was cutting edge shit back in the day...
6:42 Area 4: Mechanic Factory Sounds like Dream Theater. I can see Myang and Portnoy. ;)
I like the sound
excelente ,lamentablemente eso se perdio en las nuevas consoñlas :(
Consoñlas
Yeahhh, I remember this game,Up Up Down Down B A B A select select start you got the Thirty or Ten lives (depending which Contra game you use this on)then ready to shoot Alien Red Falcon Asss! Wooooo!
To hear "Babalu Defense Mechanism" at *_close to_* normal tempo, use 0.75 Speed.
(It's a bit _too_ slow, but almost like it was in the game.)
AHHH AREA 8 MUSIC JUST NEEDS THE SOUND OF A NICE SPREAD GUN ;)
I agree that the theme of the game totally gets cues from the Alien movie(s) but the music just reminded me more of Terminator ;)
the whole soundtrack of Super C is amazing but my favorite track is Stage 3 @ 4:08, the track makes you feel you are in the jungle fighting some alien bastards
12:35 giger in 8-bit...why not...
Stage4/Stage7 theme is so fucking awesome
+antimon009 It reminds me a lot of thrash metal bands like Forbbiden or Toxic, which were very melodic and technical sounding
+Sergio Gabriel Velasquez Vasquez Yep, I'd say all Contra soundtracks sound a lot like 8-bit versions of thrash/heavy metal from 80's, lots of similar dynamics, rhythms and stuff, which definitely fits well with the gameplay. On Contra Force soundtrack this influence is even more apparent.
toughest shit you can get out of 8bit
I must disagree. There is a lot of hardest ones. But this one is awsome.
"and bullshit, what a load of fucking bullshit", I remember hearing this in AVGN 32X review when he was complaining about them box plugs XD
In stereo? Nice!)
WiiiiiiiiiGuy)
I would love to hear a cover of "Jagger Froid" 9:36 done by Rings of Saturn with a solo thrown in.
That WOOM WOOM WOOM sounds like SNES chip. I wonder how did they even manage that.
@Xavieros Falsename
The official title is "Super C", but it is supposed to be Super Contra.
@Luigi2999: And here I thought that Konami was trying to make the C in the Contra logo an emblem like the Batman logo.
Given Contra 3 is not a port of Super Contra, not sure how renaming that Super C would make sense.
I wanna listen some musics of this game in real instruments. Will be great
5:51 was when shit got serious but this is playing waaaay to fast!
It sounds like too damn latino, salsa or something lol
Also, Wiiguy, I have a request. It is for a Famicom game called Mitsume ga Tooru, it has an awesome soundtrack! Love to hear that in stereo!
Why does 'Babalu Defense Mechanism' sounds speed up in all uploads on UA-cam (except one)?
I've heard that last one more than a few times
Actually I believe the Japan release does have a 30 lives code; however, I may be confusing that with Contra III: The Alien Wars for the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo, so don't quote me on that :)
I was 3 when i played this on a polystation
I prefer the Hex Box.
I always read it "Super Contra" instead of "Super C", I guess I was wrong these 20 years =D
while listening this ost , i felt the urge to go look at arnolds contra commando movie XD
Area 4 and Area 7 - is the same Theme!
Is it just me, or does the steel spider theme sound a bit too fast?
Steel Spider sounds sped up. Also, you forgot the thunder to start off the first stage. =P
Can u make a real remix of Area 8 soundtrack?
Boss
Hey man, newer fan of this series here but is there a reason some of the recent uploads don't have a d/l link? I've actually been getting these and jamming out while making a game of my own lately haha, anyways keep up the good work! Would love to snag this ost off you if you ever post a link
Actually the pirate cartridge had japanese verion of the game. 30 live code works only in european and japanese versions of the game...
why does stage 3 act 2 sound faster here?
Probably to prevent this from getting taken down...
5:51 Babalu Defense Mechanism
in speed 0.75x is version original.....
2:00
Heya would you be able to provide a megaupload link to this soundtrack bruddah? Pleeeeeease?? :)
The Babalu track is at 2X. It's not that fast in the game.
2:53 end of story :)))))))
End of story indeed!!!!
anyone know what this game has in relation to the aliens franchise. I swear when I was little and playing this game, there was one level where these things looked like alien eggs with facehuggers jumping out of them. Also the final boss looks like that thing in the movie prometheus.
Good question, the only relation is that the artists at Konami apparently were fans of H.R. Giger and they "copied" his art style into some of their games, in some Irem games like X-Multiply there is much organic and grotesque art too so i figure that japanese loved the Aliens or Giger art style, and in Konami´s Galactic Warriors even there is a character named Giger.
Would you maybe upload Contra Operation C OST. The game is for Game Boy?
Super C is a game for NES
Operation C is different game and it is for Game Boy. This is from wiki please read it: "Operation C, released as Contra (コントラ?)[1] in Japan and as Probotector in the PAL region, is a 1991 run and gun game by Konami released for the Game Boy. It is the first portable installment in the Contra series and features gameplay and graphics similar to the Nintendo Entertainment System versions of Contra and Super C."
Amethyst DAHLIA YES IT IS
