Thank you Mr. Fish for that lovely review. You are quite right in one point: The books are not "about" contemplative mysticism, they "are" the practice of contemplative mysticism (if read in the right way). Proper use of the printed material is the challenge. Thank you once again!
Beautiful, experience-provoking work as usual, David! Thank you for these gems!
Great series, David. I gotta dive in further. Read four so far.
Interesting! I wasn't sure if these might be useful for me or not, but now based on your review/overview, I am going to have to take a look at them...
A word you might find useful in the future in relation to these books (and others) is "mystagogic." A mystagogic text is a text that is not merely "on mysticism," but one that is actually designed to create a mystical experience in the person reading/consuming/experiencing it. It sounds like this is what Smith is doing with this book series in general, or at very least certain aspects of it.
Absolutely, great comment. You nailed it.
I am always so fascinated by his works and drawings. Great review. Fascinating works
Thank you very much!!
These are the best kind of books, I am going to have to get these bought!!
( To be Cherished!!)
Namasté 🙏🕊️💞
Andréa and Jasper. ...XxX....
Thanks very much
Toujours aussi intéressant, merci.
Love the art. Blessings from oregon
That looks like works of (printmaker’s) art within a book 📕, as those seem like the “original” (first print) used for the illustrations/descriptions. Love your book reviews as usual Dennis 📚 X ❤❤❤
I have the LFoA series and they demand to be taken care of, as in they don’t do well in daily reading without a lot of precaution and gentle treatment. These books can be thrown in the backpack and taken anywhere. Thank you so so much for putting this content in a rough and tumble format.
I just watched The Holdovers and so, not quite the same level of veritas as one who stayed at a Holiday Inn last night but based on movie viewing expertise and my ability to pay attention to this video, I would confirm that you have seven monographs here.
I’m planning on viewing Wonka this weekend so if anything in that movie contradicts anything I have written here, I’ll issue a correction.
👀🍿
I didn’t quite understand if the content is mostly theoretical or practical. If I wanted to acquire one for practical work which would you say is best?
Probably 7th
wow
❤
What does it mean to be a contemplative mystic? You just think a lot about stuff?
Smoke up some herbs and writes a chapter. After 30 days, publish a book with rehashed 'knowledge'. People have been doing this for ages.
This practice is really about the development of the mind and emotions. There is a belief by the alchemists that looking at mystical artworks can help to open these faculties. Mysticism is the sister of magickal practice, where you are working the mind and heart more than using your body to generate change in yourself and world. Both paths compliment each other.
I consider it a form of active meditation, but the result is an opening of the spiritual faculties through the mind and emotions.
There is no need for disrespect here, we are all our own path and we all have different ways of going about the great work.
@@millennialbuddhism2619 Plus, I haven't smoked an herb in 34 years. I wouldn't be able to write or draw a thing if I did.
@LightningFlashofAlef we all find our altered states through various methods but i prefer my mind altering substances to be books haha.
