- Riding a Triumph Bonneville T120 to an ancient Abbey ruin.
One of the great things about riding motorcycles in the UK is that you're only ever a few great roads away from interesting and awe inspiring locations. For me personally, I love ancient ruins and the almost 900 year old Fountains Abbey is one of the best preserved examples in the UK. The icing on the cake is that it's in Yorkshire, so a day out visiting the Abbey can be combined with riding some of the best motorcycling roads in the UK.

I've had my Bonneville for a little over a month, now. I've said it before, but your videos do such a great job of capturing what it feels like to just get out and ride. Leaving this comment to help feed the algorithm, as I want nothing more than for people to discover your channel and so come to either gain or enhance a love of riding.
I hope you’re enjoying your Bonnie! And thanks for leaving such nice words, it not only helps the algorithm overlords but it’s encouraging for me also 👍
I was out on my old R1100RT on Friday, bimbling along the quiet back roads where I live in the west coast of Scotland, thinking to myself "I'm living my best life". Then your video drops today Matt and it's so laid back and peaceful I'm practically horizontal!. Top work Sir. Made my Sunday.
Riding old bikes around the West coast of Scotland sounds adjust about perfect to me! 👌
I always love your videos Matt, especially when the black dog is being obnoxious and I’m unable to get out to ride; I can live vicariously through them. They’re wonderful, humble and inspiring. Thank you!
I’m glad they help a little, hope you feel brighter soon 👊
I'm Korean.
Now I'm on a Ducati scrambler, but I'm trying to ride t120 someday watching your UA-cam. Always a good video please.
The Ducati Scrambler is a fine bike. Glad you like the videos 🙏
I’m a bit behind watching this Matt, but you’ve nailed it again. 👌 Listening through headphones I can hear so much more, wind, birds, the grumble of the engine then it switches to one ear, just great. ✌️
Thanks Jeremy, I need to spend a bit more time learning how to edit the sound properly, I didn’t realise it switched to just one side during the video so I’ll have watch out for that in future. Glad you liked it though!
Matt, thank you for the wonderful video all the time.
I'm glad I was on the Bonneville too.
Glad you liked the video, and there’s no better bike for summer rides through country lanes 👌
Yorkshire has some excellent Abbeys to visit, Rievaulx Abbey, Byland Abbey and Fountains Abbey
You’re right, there’s more Abbey’s than you can shake a crucifix at 🙏
I'm waiting for my first new Bonneville T120 and i hope soon enjoy this great motorbike in the land of Mallorca. Excuse me my basic English. Congratulations Matt for those nice videos full of good job, great images, places and music from this Beautiful land as UK. Your Bonneville is very well configured.
You’re English is excellent, as is your choice of motorcycle 👌I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.
@@ClassicRides thank you
I loved this video so i just subscribed to your channel. I feel that I’m riding w you when I’m watching. Just nature, scenery & the bike, no annoying voice-overs. It’s calming, restful vibe truly relaxes.
I do hope you dont mind however, if I ask you about the accessories on your bike, the crash bars, aux lights, panniers, the steel bag holder on the tank? I own a Trident 660 & thinking about selling and getting a T120 too…
Thanks so much & keep making videos. 🙏👏🙂
Thanks for the sub, glad you liked the videos. If you have a look on my website (www.classic-rides.co.uk) there’s a Journal post about my bike which lists all the parts I’ve added, you’ll be able to find the info you’re after there 🙂
Thank you Clécio, that's very kind of you to say! I've no plans to stop making videos any time soon, as soon as our horrible British weather improves I'll be out making another one.
Saludos desde Mallorca tus videos son geniales, me dan paz y tranquilidad cuando los veo.
So glad to hear that 🙏👊
Que bonito paisaje un video maravilloso y la música un diez gracias
Thank you, glad you liked it 🙂
Hi, You somehow went missing in my feed. Guess I have to take a peek back. Great video as usual, thanks
Thanks Colin, I seem to have gone missing from a lot of folks feed over the past few months, glad you’ve redound me though 🙂
Fantastic scenery and a beautiful expression of why to just go ride. 👍
Thanks John, glad you so thought so!
Love every video, total de stress, keep them coming 👍
Glad to hear it! 🙏👊
Excellent video.
Beautiful images. Congratulations.

Thanks 👍
Relaxing ride, l recognise those places and roads, Fountains Abbey, you then road past Cliffords Tower and Bolton Abbey, last bit... Pateley Bridge? 🤔
You know your Yorkshire roads Gary, spot on with all of them 👍
Great vid. Beautiful place and ride. Love the dialogue. Some could learn from it. Next time. Stay safe. Twist the grip.
Thanks Sam, glad you liked it.
Possibly the best you’ve made Matt…❤❤❤
I need that tank bag for my Bonneville, what is it…How do I buy it …can I buy through you
Hi Paul, it’s a Triumph tank bag that they don’t make anymore. But there’s a chap on the Triumph Riders Facebook page who’s got a bunch of new old stock, you might be able to find his listing on Facebook marketplace if it’s still active.
@@ClassicRides
Thanks Matt
I’ll search it ⭐️⭐️⭐️👍
Great video. Lovely music.
Thanks 🙏
WAWOOO BAUTIFULL VIEWS 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Simply amazing, honestly it never disappoints, thank you Matt! 👍👍
Thanks Nelio, always great to get a thumbs up from you 👊
Always love your riding^^
Thank you 🙏
Very nice Matty Mac.
Thank you 😁
Amazing view!
I quite agree 🙂
Stunning.
Cheers.
Thanks 🙏
Inspiring as always….. from one Tyke to another. Excellent!
Thanks Andrew! 🙏
Hi classic rides, great vid and well filmed and you do such a great job
Thanks Paul, glad you liked it 👍
So beautiful and peaceful
Glad you thought so Mike 👍
Another one? Anyone would think we've had some decent weather.
As always stunning cinematography, I'm full of envy, having barbecued my right leg sitting on my Scrambler in London traffic, dreaming of getting out of town.
Yes, two dry days in two weeks, incredible! Even felt like summer for a couple of hours in this ride.
I always wondered if those high scram exhausts burned legs, but being burned in London traffic is like being burned twice 🔥🔥
@@ClassicRides they're not too bad usually, but when the cooling fan kicks in while you're stuck in traffic things do get a bit warm (autocorrect put "cooking fan", strangely appropriate).
Then again in winter, at least one leg is warm.
swings and roundabouts 😁@@AlexOnABoat
Nice video, great place!
Thanks 🙏
Nice video Matt, very professional 😊 I have helmet envy nowadays 😂
It is a rather lovely thing to be fair 😁
... As I'm watching I can't not to think that engine sound would be much more pleasing to listen than the music..
That’s fair enough. A lot of folk like the music, and at anything over 20mph it’s more wind noise than engine, which sounds horrible 🙂
@@ClassicRides couldn't agree more.. It's just that filmography is astonishing, you have one of the most beautiful movies of all YT moto channels, I was just referring that sounds of that engine with that scenery, and calmness, it would made whole experience more complete.
Love your videos.
Greetings from Serbia
@@andrewbozhozr I completely understand, I wish it was easier to isolate the engine noise as the bike sounds great. Just sad that the only ways I’ve found to do it are extremely time consuming so aren’t a realistic option at the moment. I’m alway experimenting though so hopefully one day I’ll get it right.
Great to see you in Pateley bridge pal hope you had a pie from Weatherhead’s 😊
I didn’t I’m afraid, but now you’ve mentioned it I’ll put it on my list! I’ll have to explore a bit more round there as it’s a great area; I’ll be using your videos as a guide of where to go 😁
Amazing video, very tranquil and calming.
Can I ask about the helmet?
You’ve got a new subscriber in me and I’m now going through your back catalogue too, sometimes the algorithm gets it right
Thanks for the sub Dan 👊. The helmet is a Hedon Heroine Racer in the Macadamia colour. They’re a little pricey but there’s also nothing that comes close to the quality and comfort, well worth the expense I’d say 👌
Another relaxing video to watch Matt, I notice you have changed a few bits back to original on the bike.
I sold my Tiger the other week, wish I had kept the Bonnie now😢😢
Oh no Les, why did you sell your Tiger? Have you got something else now? If not, you could always get another Bonnie 🙂
@@ClassicRides just after I got it me & my mate went to Bala & I got to the top of a lane turned left on a camber & not enough revs coming to rest on a dry stone wall, low impact the bars saved the tank but it unnerved me a bit.
I went camping a couple of times after fully loaded but was glad to get back in 1 piece, didn’t really use it 900 miles in 13 mths.
To be fair I didn’t give it a fair crack of the whip as they say, I’m 71 now & thinking should I give up but it’s like cold turkey at the moment, very frustrating, I don’t think I could get a Bonnie as good as I had V&H pipes Motone bits so I wouldn’t go back, we will see, I’ll still look forward to your vlogs tho👍
@@lesperchard3793 I remember you mentioning that accident, but didn’t realise it had poisoned the well a bit, I’m sorry to hear that.
Personally I’m finding a lot of the aftermarket parts I had weren’t lasting very well or weren’t practical, so the bike’s slowly returning back to a lot of original parts. I imagine you’d enjoy a new Bonnie just as much as your old one, or maybe even one of the Royal Enfields, the Classic 350 is a lovely looking bike.
Anyway I hope you don’t give it up just yet, I’m sure there’s plenty of miles left in you yet!
Every time I watch your vids, I always say to myself must try harder, very nice.
Thanks Walter, glad you liked it 🙂
luv the gloves though
Thanks, they from Bycity 👌
Hmm seems I made a mistake when I tried to comment…
Well thx for all your beautiful videos and for sharing them. Keeping the hopes up for another season.
Well I got my license a few months ago and I’m looking out for some good looking and practical pants. If you don’t mind me asking I’m curious about the brand of your pants in this video! Would you like to tell me about them?
Best regards fram a too cold Sweden!
No worries. The jeans I’m wearing in this video are from Pando Moto, I think they’re called “Karl”, or something like that. They’re very nice and look like normal jeans. Only level A protection though so that’s worth bearing in mind.
You could also check out Roadskin, their Taranis jeans AAA rated and are my favourite to ride in. (They also look like normal pair of jeans.) And I have special code to get 10% off if you buy from them just enter “CLSSICRIDES” in at checkout 👍
Thanks a lot @@ClassicRides I’ll check them out!
👍🤩👍
🙏👊
Yet another stunning video, first class 👏
Now riding a T120 Diamond edition, absolutely love its character and handling.
Can I ask, where did you get your fly screen from?
Thanks William, I hope you’re enjoying your Bonnie as much as I do mine. The screen is from Motone Customs 👍
@ClassicRides absolutely adore the bonneville, definitely the best decision I've made since getting back on a bike. Thanks for the heads up with the screen, definitely a good after market upgrade 👌🏻
you should have stopped fot that icecream :) farmhouse icecream are the best in the world :D and its not even close :D
Everyone should always stop for icecream, it's a rule for life 👌🏻
Hola, excelente video y paisajes
Que casco más bello, que marca es??
Soy Oscar y saludos desde Chile
Glad you liked the video Oscar, the helmet is Hedon Heroine Racer in the Macadamia colour 👌
Dear Matt,
A really lovely video - extremely professional, and well-presented.
I watched your video in the first place, because I'm seriously considering purchasing a brand new Triumph T120 myself.
The only thing that is making me hesitate is the possibly of rust /corrosion.
I'll be taking my Bonneville on some fairly long-ish tours around Europe (if I buy it), and am just wondering if you've experienced any problems with rust yourself?
Obviously, I will do my best to keep my motorcycle in pristine condition but, if you're touring for up to two weeks at a time, sometimes in bad weather, this isn't always possible.
Could you please give me some advice.
Many thanks,
Neil (West Midlands).
Hi Neil, a couple of weeks touring won’t really damage your bike in any way. The only areas I’ve found that have suffered from rust is the wheel spokes, the point where they attach to the wheel rim collects water and can be difficult to keep in good condition.
But just be thorough with your ACF50 application a couple of times each winter and you’ll be fine 👌
Hi, Matt. Many thanks for your reply. Yes- I've read all about the virtues of ACF50, but some people say that it leaves a sticky residue which tends to attract dirt and dust. Is this your experience with it? Is there a better (non-sticky) anti-corrosion product available? I appreciate your time. :)
@@ClassicRides
I think most of the anti corrosion products are all similar in the sticky residue respect. Your spokes are going to get dirty no matter what so there's no way to avoid that, but I've found it washes off easily enough.
@@neilyplim
Is that the color-matched Flyscreen from Triumph? I've been thinking about getting one of those for my T100, but I am not sure if it will do anything.
No it’s actually a screen from Motone Customs, doesn’t do much for air flow but it looks cool 👌
@@ClassicRides ooh ok since the silvers seemed to match made me think it was that one. Does indeed look cool.
Great video my friend. Keep it up while you enjoy doing it. You give much pleasure even if you likely won't be a billionaire....I am sure that status is overrated !
I don’t know, I’d like to try being a billionaire once 😁. But thanks, I’ll be going for a little while yet.
Is that tintern ? Forgive me if I missed the script I’m out camping in north Cornwall.
It’s Fountains Abbey, camping in Cornwall sounds like a great way to spend your time 👌
Hey Matt, do you think the Messenger Bags you have will do fine on a Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster? That's the motorbike I'll be getting, Lord willing. I'm getting things little by little (gear wise). I'm in the United States.
Oh, and those brown gloves that you wear, are they waterproof and good for cold days?
Hi Roy, I think as long as you have pannier rails that sit horizontally (I’ve seen some on Speedmaster’s that point upwards) then you should be fine as you can attach the bags directly to the rails.
I’ve not had those gloves for very long so although they’re supposed to be waterproof, I’ve not actually tried them in the wet yet. They’re also thermal lined so they should be good for cold days, maybe not the depths of winter but I think for autumn and early winter they’ll be good. They called the Elegant glove from Bycity.
@ClassicRides Thank you sir. That is very helpful. And the Patrol jacket is that waterproof? And do you recommend any waterproof gloves that you know have been tried, tested and proven. I will be riding all year.
Oh, and if my Bonneville Speedmaster has the Heated Grips they should be good all winter you reckon?
Those gloves combined with the heated grips I mean?
If your country wasn't made for motorcycles I don't know what was! On the other hand didi I detect a stock gas cap on your tank? What happened to Motone Monza cap?
Well spotted Mike. I managed to find a new old stock original Triumph tank bag, but it doesn’t fit with the Motone cap so the original cap had to go back on. Should be very useful for longer tours 👌
*You mean I could have been hanging my helmet from that hook under the seat?!* Is that by design?
It sure is, it’s a helmet lock 👍
@@ClassicRides*Thanks.* I can saw off that helmet lock on the handlebars that I forgot the combination to. LOL
7:03 Watching again and I realised you've done something almost unforgiveable.
How could you ride past a farmhouse dairy ice cream van and not stop to buy one.
Matt, I'm surprised at you 😉
To be fair I didn’t think anyone was manning the van. I ALWAYS stop for ice cream where it’s available, but occasionally mistakes happen and ride-by’s occur.
Do you drink tea or coffee from your flask?
Only tea 🫖
