Emily first request about Ross not seeing Rachel was not unreasonable in my opinion but it should have stopped there. She went further and further and that's when I thought like Chandler.

I know we all hated Emily for a while. But can you really blame her for all of these? They had everything perfect, their wedding planning was going so well. If it wasn't for Rachel none of these would have happened. I mean Emily did a lot for Ross and for the fact that she still accepted Ross even after he said Rachel's name says a lot that Emily really was a good person and she had every right to ask Ross to stay away from Rachel. In that process his friends should have an issue with Rachel not Emily because in the end everyone would have to be together with their partner and focus on building their family.

I have to say, the show was obviously a comedy, lot of the characters are flawed a lot, and a lot of the resolving of the problems makes no sense; but they really sometimes provide interesting dillemas. The whole "we were on a break" is a very 50/50 situation, where you can side with both Rachel and Ross and in my opinion both were reasonable in a way (both were also unreasonable, but let's put that aside for now). The whole Emily situation is so interesting and I find it fascinating how it still "divides" people. Emily had to suffer through so much with Ross, and she does seem unreasonable I guess - but also Ross sacrificing everything (mostly Rachel) is something that would make her trust him again and after being so humiliated in front of eveyone she knows, is it really that unreasonable? You can't have marriage on different continents, one of them had to move anyway; and if Ross does it, for her it's the one proof she needs to trust him again. Of course in reality that relationsip was doomed from the start, Ross always loved Rachel and they were written to be together, but if The Almighty Writers didn't exist and Ross said the right name, I can imagine him and Emily being endgame. No you're right to write an essay. People in foreign countries have went on extended UA-cam rants about how they "didn't get Friends' popularity." It's television comfort food. It's usually not uproariously funny but it's light-hearted. It's a soap opera about young people finding themselves in a comedy envelope, which is a deeper premise than it seems. And it's aged well and still entertaining to watch. The thing Friends did which annoys my 2023 sensibilities is "jokes-by-proxy": we can't make fun of fat people, so we'll make Monica a *former* fat person. We can't make fun of gay people so we'll make *Chandler's Dad* gay (then a trans woman.) It's like the showrunners want the credit for not making fat or gay jokes when they were. And that's fine that those jokes were there IMHO, it's just I respect comedies like Blazing Saddles or Tropic Thunder for /going there/.
Always thought not seeing Rachel at all was unrealistic and unreasonable because she lived with his sister and was friends…no pun intended……with his best friends. But more something like that they not be alone together and not talk on the phone….unless an emergency. This could give time to build trust and show respect for Ross and Emily’s marriage. Something like that. I know it’s a tv show. But did have something vaguely similar in real life. When it’s unrealistic to cut all contact due to circumstances, clear boundaries are needed. Trust security love peace of mind sleep respect from herself and from others lost the future she envisioned. I hate fur and leather clothes, they are Unnecessary and Cruel towards Animals!! You should look up a Sanctuary that rescues the poor Animals from the Horrid fur business....

What was Emily giving up? That’s MY question. I do think that Ross had to stop seeing Rachel because BOTH were surprised she showed up. If Emily has a problem she needs to talk to RACHEL. This might be why I couldn’t side with Ross and Rachel’s relationship because nearly everyone BUT Rachel matures throughout the series…all but Rachel she makes the same mistakes, same choices, and still is that girl who wanted high school to last so she has to remind everyone who she WAS.

Love to break it to you that humans grow and change their beliefs as they grow. Taking that sort of a judgement on a fictional character doesn't show a very good reflection of oneself.
