nice stuff...little while's since i've caught up with you......dug this expose ...i picked up harrison 32c version 5 the other day .....and dig what it's capable of ...but seeing it in line with the desk.....that's the wow factor...using zed 16 allen n' heath myself....so this technique was ways 'useful'.....also picked up 'impact server' from waves...which goes back to yours n' my back n' forth before...
Sorry for my lack of input lately. Still recovering from Hurricane Michael. Good news is construction repairs have begun and I should be back up and running before the end of the summer.
@@BrianBuckalew brian sorry to hear about hurricane M....but glad you're wells in the rebuild...i've got a relocation from one country to another coming up soon.....but then it's full time in the studio...and building something that wouldn't be that different from yours....(based on our previous back n' forths') ...good to hear from you...dug the clip....i'm already running with the ball on both 32c and on ableton...(pro tools is yours and ableton my go to......) ......be in touch
Your right just you doing these videos . thanks so much . I use Propellerhead reason you might like to look at that it has a fabulous modal of an ssl console and now has vst support. Hopeing to get the 22 MTK soon mainly on your recommendation . was going to get a Mk 3 studio live 24 but not analog and more to go wrong with the moturised fadurs. thanks again Marc
You're welcome - and thank you for your kind words. I have a couple of friends who are presently using Reaper and Cubase - there are many tools you can use to get the job done. At the end of the day - as I say in the video - what matters most is working in whatever way makes you feel the most comfortable. If I get a chance I will give Reason a try, but I usually find a way that works for me and stick to it, and this seems to be the way that makes the most sense right now (tracking/mixing in Pro Tools, stem mixing in Harrison Mixbus, and mastering in Studio One).
hi Brain! this is great video. Thank for informative review! By the way, i want to ask is this workflow better than doing of workflow that use converter ADDA such as apollo 16 to rupert nerve 5060 or 5059 or even lower spec like quantum presonus x2 to summing mixer?
Thank you! Like most things, your question comes with a very subjective answer. It matters more to your ears what is better or not better. But I will say this sounds much better to my ears than any method I have used before in my studio.
Great!!, i now know that its worth to give a try to follow this method. I just heard that mixbus DAW add on very nice console taste and even better than console taste that add on by 5060 and yes 22 mtk signature give a lot head room and analog sound.
Hello Brian , I wanted to thank you for your videos. I have a question. I bought a AKIA 250 D Reel to Reel but I don't know how to connect it to my MACKIE SR40-8 Bus console. I could use your help if you wouldn't mind. Thanks Kindly
I like to keep my lead vocals panned center but my vocal effects panned stereo using stereo delays and reverbs. My background vocals definitely are going to be panned stereo with certain voices being panned left and others to the right but being sent to a stereo bus/group. This is all inside of my DAW. When routing a group stem everything goes out to a stereo track pair (Analog 1/2, Analog 3/4, etc.) and the panning inside of my DAW will remain intact on the console. So, for example, if I pan my kick and snare dead center and pan my toms left to right along with my overhead mics, then I would send the entire drum group to Analog 1/2. The stereo track will represent the panning I had inside my DAW exactly the same because I am using a stereo field - left is left, right is right, and center is center. Same with vocals. If I send a mono vocal track to a stereo track pair on a console the vocals will still sound in the center of the mix as long as the stereo tracks are panned full left and right.
@@BrianBuckalew thanks for explaining I'm glad how you cleared that up for me I'm actually tempted to buy the Signature soundcraft 22MTK and get use to this workflow.
Hi, thank you very much for the video, at the moment Im thinking to work this way Hybrid. I have a Tascam M-3500. one UAD appolo and 2 adats which I have the ability to sum up to 24 channels. Although I have a question ???? After summing everything to the Board (console) and when ready to print, I have to adjust the Master fader from the Tascam board since that would be sending the signal level to print right?? However if I push the Master fader too high I hear hum/his or ground noise since its an analog console and I dont want to print with noise. So Im thinking having the signal input strong so that there is no need to push the master fader too high. When I say master fader too high I dont mean to pass 0 db maybe around -20db to -10db. (its audible) Is this the proper way to do this?
Hello Art - let me say there will potentially be noise regardless of what you do - or how you do it - as noise is an inherent part of working with analog gear. Now, you can obviously minimize the amount of noise with proper gain staging. I would suggest experimenting with different levels and notate your results. It took me several mixes before I felt like I was able to get a good handle on summing through this console, and every studio potentially will have a different way to get optimal results as they are using different gear and their mixing technique and style of music will greatly determine how this console factors into the end result. Experimentation is the key. FYI: I often go over 0 dB on my Master Fader when I am analog summing. But again, that is in my studio - you may find doing this in your environment produces less than optimal results.
@@BrianBuckalew thank you for the response Brian, yes I really love this workflow (Hybrid) and I guess your right! the noise comes with "analog" but ill keep the input signals hot so that I wont have to push the Master fader too high, and since every mixing console is different and has its own color. happy mixing , subscribed!!! :)))
Hi! I work with a very similar signal flow. 1. record in Logic 2. mix in Mixbus 32c. 3. print with my signature 12 4 master in Mixbus thanks for your video

Hello Bill! Unfortunately I do not have any experience with either item. Sorry I can’t be of help.
How would you pan the vocals if the vocals are mono only on the soundcraft and on the DAW

And you don’t need to get the 22mtk. The 12mtk is also very useful, you just have less channels to work with.
bonjour how rooting kontack in mixbuss please
Here is a video I just made for Kontakt 5 in Harrison Mixbus: ua-cam.com/video/1AIJXHKk-j0/v-deo.html
