i remember this year...Pastrana totally killed it. they were flippin out about him because he was 15 and pulling HUUUUUGEEEEEEEE air. so glad to see him back in Moto-X free again this year
I was so into skating and extreme sports when the x games rolled into my backyard. I went every day with my brother and I will never forget it. It was all on the pier and the water which made it even better and the weather was perfect. Late 90s ftw
He graduated high school when he was 15? wtf? you'd think someone who has hit the ground as much as he has would be bad in school lol. Props to travis, brain of steel.
1999: look at that cliffhanger his butt is 3 feat off the seat 2010: all of those tricks have been done upside down plus some you gotta love the progression of action sports
Travis pastrana never stops hes like a motorcycle god sent to us from the heavenslol. Just kidding.but he did change motorcycle history forever.👍👍👍👍✌✌✌✌✌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👊👊👊👊👊 you rock Travis. Miss watching you ride!!!
Yeah, and oddly enough, you can mostly thank Mike Metzger for the backflip…I remember Carey Hart did it first at the Gravity Games in Rhode Island… by hitting the jump intended for the Step-Up competition, and him and Travis Pastrana were fumbling around practicing it off these wall of dirt type jumps & Metz was the first one I ever saw do a motocross backflip on a conventional motocross ramp & TP, Deegan, everyone followed suit & we were all waiting for the _Next big thing_ and Chuck Carothers pulled the first body varial… and it seems to me that was a complete fluke…I’ve seen Chuck attempt that A Lotta times, but I just can’t see him pulling it again…
Bucky lasik did that with his board too..if you live here like me u know how close this was to the water..a bunch of them launched into the water..hella sharks out there..under the golden gate they have spotted the biggest great whites of all time in the us shores
Yes, he indeed aired it out into the bay. I was there, too. It was sick. X-Games has refused to ever air the footage. They/ESPN were scared of backlash, and weren't really sure how to react, fearing environmentalists. They let him keep the gold medal, but refused to pay him the 10k prize money (owner of Fox Racing reportedly gave him the 10k out of pocket). X-Games knew he was going to do it, but didn't really make a legit effort to stop him. Travis' crew tipped off camera crews, and hired 2 boats to be ready to get him and the bike from water, the bike however sunk before they could get it. Travis' crew had drained the oil and left only enough fuel for the run, to minimize any pollution concerns. X-Games used Travis' withheld prize money to hire a salvage crew to get the bike several hours later, and the remaining prize money was donated to a local bay environmental charity. I think they should've aired the footage, and just donated enough towards bay clean up so that it would be inarguable that the bay was better off because of it. I had such an awesome time being a SF Bay native and going to all the X-Games of the time with my best friends in our late teens. Got to witness Tony Hawk land the first 900, it was wild. Found a crappy video of it, paste this "_484DzDG4Kw" after the "v=" in the youtube address bar. Here is complete address, but I think YT doesn't always show addresses in comments: ua-cam.com/video/_484DzDG4Kw/v-deo.html
