- I'm excited to sit down with Dr. Philip Ovadia. We talk about insulin resistance, cholesterol, and much more. Make sure to listen to the full interview to learn more.
Dr. Philip Ovadia's extensive experience in heart surgery, exceeding 3,000 operations, revealed to him the crucial role of lifestyle and nutrition in maintaining good health rather than relying solely on medical interventions. Witnessing his patients treat heart attacks as an "inevitable" part of life motivated him to shift his focus toward preventive health, aiming to equip people with the necessary tools and mindset to avoid the need for a heart surgeon entirely.
We discuss the following:

If you are interested in getting bloodwork that can be analyzed by a keto/Carnivore practice, which includes all the different insulin markers we shared, as well as the LP-IR and NMR cholesterol panel, you can learn more here: www.nutritionwithjudy.com/shopping/lab-work/complete-wellness-panel (You can also ask your practitioner covered under insurance to run these same markers). We will never know 100% of risks but the more we know and understand, the better we can make improvements to our lifestyle.
what if LP-IR and HOMAIR says no IR but Trig/HDL is over 2?
I hope you’re right Dr. Ovadia. I’m 65 years old and a three year carnivore. I had a heart attack three weeks ago. Complete Widowmaker blockage, they inserted three stents. Apparently I have heart damage, but I’m walking 3 miles a day to hopefully improve my condition. Perpetually gasping for air lol! Everyone I know is doing their best to blame my heart attack on the carnivore diet. And yes, I’m on all the medications now, including Lipitor. I was on no medications prior to this heart attack. I would like to get off these meds as soon as possible but I’m going to listen to my cardiologist for the time being. Of course he’s old-school telling me no more saturated fat. I feel so alone and could use some words of encouragement. Thank you!
I’m so sorry to hear of your experience. I’m 74 and just started carnivore four months ago. I do feel much better and can’t say I’m not concerned. Can only imagine the loneliness you feel. Just a suggestion why don’t you try going on Kelly Hogsn’s group. I would really like to hear what one of the carnivore doctors say. I hope someone respond to you.❤
@@zarasophia3714 Great idea joining Kelly Hogan’s group. Thank you for the suggestion!
I'm so sorry you are going through this! Just a thought, Is it possible that your blockage occurred prior to starting the carnivore diet? I was concerned about the same issue and decided to get a CAC score. It turns out I had a zero score. At the time, I was 2+ years into my keto/ carnivore journey. 66 year old female here.
Take Nattokinese. Problem solved.
@@csstudio3648 i’m certain the blockage occurred before I went carnivore. I’ve never felt better in my life since being on the carnivore diet. I was shocked when I had this heart attack because I’ve been in the best health and super fit these past three years. Another thing I’m certain about is that carnivore actually saved my life. I was in good enough health to not die from this heart attack.
Really valuable interview. Judy you had some spot on questions for Dr. Ovadia. I just wish interviews like this were presented to doctors and medical students so they understand the real reasons for development of heart disease. 👏🇦🇺
The medical cartel would never allow the truth to come out about heart disease because it's counter productive to their number one mandate: PROFITS!!!
Thanks so much to both of you for this important and informative conversation!!! Everyone needs to hear this! ❤
Great Interview! Dr Ovadia saves lives! Very smart man! Just take the time to listen to his advise. I am 72 and in perfect health due to my diet change thanks to him.
Love saved my heart.
I love that. I think it did for me too. ❤
Thank you for this interview and the questions you asked. My husband needs to hear this.
My intention with this interview was for the non-carnivore tbh! I think it's an absolutely important discussion, and coming from a heart doctor just makes it that much more compelling.
That last segment when you guys get into the insurance discussion would make s great episode.
The Golden Cuffs- Medical Edition.
What doctors can and cannot say. Why some most of the doctors in this space difficult to get into contact with or find out they are retired completely? Is the bureaucratic side of medicine that cold and unfeeling? To what end and to what gain? It's feeling more and more that we are at a great precipice in changing the way healthcare looks entirely and either way the pendulum swings it's going to be expensive.
I have many conversations about insurance and all that goes on. Here's one: ua-cam.com/video/Bwn7lRtAdBg/v-deo.html&t and another: ua-cam.com/video/rtl0H_6u11k/v-deo.html&t
Anyone can order any test and just pay for it. I order tests and my HC provider says “ I don’t think insurance will cover this “. And I say “order it anyway and I’ll pay for it “. Doctors are afraid of ordering tests and then patients getting mad when they get a bill.
Great questions! It demonstrates a good command of the physiology and current concerns. Thanks.
Shared on my social media. Thanks!
This was a good one! 😁👍👏👏👏
Love Dr. Ovadia! And all the other doctors who support this WOE.
Great coverage, great questions Judy!
What a magical idea in terms of medical science. Salute you.
I hear about people freaking out with CAC scores in the single digits, yet I have had a score of 7,000 for years and still here. I may not be here tomorrow, but I don't spend my time worrying, which just makes things worse.
Thank you.
Three years carnivore is not going to erase 60 years of bad eating. Wishing you good health.
The “Carnivore Diet” is a UA-cam and TikTok driven fad…it is BS.
Hoe do you know? The body knows
It should have at least prevented an event
@@ango586 The carnivore diet (also called a zero carb diet) is a high-protein fad diet in which only animal products such as meat, eggs, and dairy are consumed.
The carnivore diet is associated with pseudoscientific health claims.
It is really unfortunate that the Calcium Scoring Test isn't covered by insurance. You would think if it has significant value it would be deemed to be part of the assessment guidelines for your cardiac health. But of course it isn't. That needs to change. When it does I will get it. People pay, at least I do, lots of money for insurance premiums and yet I can't get this simple test done unless I fork over $200.00 Just nuts.
Dr. Ovadia is just the best. Always clear and concise. Helps me become armed with the right blood test to get my Dr. to order.
I paid $100 about 1 month ago. My score was zero!
Hope there will be more RCT on Saturated fats compared with low fat
Such a levelheaded Dr, love him. Good job, Judy!
I've never had a doctor even mentioned diet to me just wanting to push all kinds of terrible drugs
Gratidão imensa.
Advanced lipid panels are not very predictive. Ive been having them for 20 years and they show zero risk for heart disease yet ive had three heart attacks and 10 stents. Its blood sugar, obesity and inflammation
What about those who have undergone coronary artery bypass surgery (in 2000)? Have not heard or read anything pertaining to this issue. If the heart surgeon would give his opinion for those in my situation. 4-way Bi-pass in 2000 and doing very well active and healthy, except for being overweight at 81 yr old? Year after year blood work, I am told "Beautiful, text book numbers!" Biggest concern is eating so much meat always along with INR green vegetables. HELP!
I can certainly see why you feel so alone. None of my family eats carnivore and they think I'm crazy. I'm female, 65. Recently had chestpain. Ended up in ER, and had to have a stress test. It came out fine. My daughter is a registered dietician. She thinks I'm nuts for not eating fruits and vegs.
Dr. Ovidia, how do you correct insulin resistance?
Can you have a CAC score redone if you have stents ?
My CAC score is 3238
Going on a very low carb diet, doing low intensity exercise like walking/hiking and resistance exercise to build muscle are the best way. Muscles are the main sinks of glucose and fats, so building muscle helps to improve metabolism. Also the other key is to reduce stress because stress hormones also affect inflammation. So doing something like yoga/meditation/breathing exercises is very helpful
Metal stents will produce artifacts in the CAC images making it virtually impossible to score a stented artery.
You need a PET scan. Ct angiogram not sensitive if cac above 1000.
@@iss8504 I too was once told (by a cardiologist) that a CT angiogram could miss "things" when the CAC score is over 1000. It's possible each case is different and open to interpretation. As the technology improves, maybe getting a CT angiogram even with a CAC score above 1000 might still tell you a lot.

Why everyone talk about how much weight they are losing. My 5 month carnivore journey do wonderful job healed multible health issues, including histamine intolerance, enziema is much better now but not completely go away. However, I am went from 130 to 153.2lbs. 5'3 What is going on with me?
I could easily gain eating any type of diet, I am sure! Never been able to stick to pure carnivore. Don't really want to.
But I follow many for info.
And one thing I have heard over and over, especially from the women, is that they gained on carnivore initially. Then started to lose gradually, and came to ideal weight eventually.
I see. Thank you for clarify my confusion. I guess I will be patient let my body healing more than.
Watch the fat. It has the most calories of any macronutrient
So, so since you don’t take insurance, you cut out just about all but the wealthy? Some of us have excellent health insurance but would not be financially able to go to your clinic without it. I hate socialized health care as much as anyone but is this the way to get rid of it?
I have disc degeneration and have been carnivore for 3 years and it’s gotten worse on carnivore !!! Is there anything I can do to help heal this internally without another spinal surgery?😊
Unfortunately it can't fix everything. Try boswelia at high doses
hi 😍, I hope you get better soon.
Ive been on the highest dose of artovaston for 10 years..can I safely cut my dose in half or take it every other day?
Throw it away. Unless you have very high cholesterol and a positive cac score you don't need it
@@jm_1214 I had major open heart surgery a 1.5 years ago to repair my Aortic Aneurism and my surgeon said when he opened me up it looked like a desert..Plaque....but he said the inside of my Aorta looked smooth...they found my Aneurism during a calcium heart scan 10 years ago and all the calcium buildup was why the put me on high dose stations..
All this talk of how bad stations r for u. I get it but I’ve been told there are benefits to statins. Dont just stop. Do some SOLID research first then weigh yr options. And know yr #’s. Sounds like dr ovedia has ways of looking deeper into bloodwork. More advanced than just yr lipid panels.
my lp-ir score is 25 what does it mean ?
so I can't offer medical advice but if that was my score, I'd be happy. :) (
I'm trying to figure out why my liver enzymes are going up on carnivore. Isn't this WOE good for the liver? Had my labs drawn 6 months in, and AST is 38, and ALT is 46. I had been eating a lot of fat, trying to gain weight (it worked). I've cut back on fat a little now that I'm at a good weight, but I'm concerned about my liver, and of course my doctors think it's the diet. I just don't know.
Why would you try to gain weight?? Are you on a statin
@@jm_1214 Because I'm underweight, and that's not a good thing with osteoporosis.
My CAC score dropped from 11 to zero in the first 3.5 years of carnivore.😀 Age 69.
That's impressive. Did you lose bodyweight?
Howdy, has anyone experienced xanthelasma? Small cholesterol filled sacs near the eyes? 1year carnivore, could I be eating too much fat? Please help
Hi. I have. It was when I was very stressed and was mostly high carb. It hasn't increased since going low carb. I have an autoimmune condition with histamine intolerance. Carnivore works best for me.
@@Irisgomesjmjfaith Thanks for replying. Did the sacs go away? Did you take any particular supplements or vitamins?
@@dianejones4276 They can only be removed through a cosmetic procedure: laser treatment, chemical peels, etc. There are dermatologists that do it. However, if there is a genetic predisposition, they tend to come back. The problem runs in my family, together with other health conditions. I've gone used to mine, so I haven't bothered about doing anything. Oddly enough, we got them when we didn't have high cholesterol. Not sure if it's a precursor, because now, in my forties, my ldl is very high 300+. But it's because my MCTD is affecting my thyroid and that is causing my cholesterol to increase. I'm more focused on reducing inflammation in my body.
This is weird. I did reply before and it isn't here anymore. You need a cosmetic procedure to remove them. A dermatologist will use laser treatment, chemical peels, etc, depending on your skin type and severity of the fat deposits. I didn't bother with mine because multiple people in my family have them. Also, I didn't get them due to a high fat diet and they've been the same for years. If you do get treatment, be aware that they can reoccur.
I disagree with the discussion about doctors not ordering tests, at the end of the video. I have never had a physician say to me "you wanted those tests I didn't want to run. Now, the insurance company wants me to pay for the tests they won't agree to." Never happened. Whatever the insurance doesn't cover, I pay for. It is clear to me that physicians, practitioners who will not write script for a test are doing so mainly because they don't know how to interpret certain test results because they won't educate themselves. There may also be a certain slap on the wrist from insurance companies that patients are not aware of. I had a PCP say to me "I will not write script for the tests you want because I don't know how to interpret the results." Well then, educate yourself. I fired him.
I was told statins low total cholesterol they do nothing for Particle size?
They actually increase small LDL particle size
Hes a CT surgeon, not a cardiologist
I am six month carnivore and just had my blood work done and my cholesterol came back at 479. all my other markers for heart disease are very very good including my CAC score which is 18. What do I tell my doctor so she won’t prescribe statins?
Don’t need to tell her anything, just because she prescribes something doesn’t mean you have to take it.
I'm in a similar situation to you .I got a cac scan which showed no calcified plaque , but soft plaque isn't measured by cac .Therefore , I plan on getting another cac in about 12 months .
Just let her prescribe them and just don't take them

Carnivore is a 'try it ' diet. Ketones vitalise our 160 trillion cells that constitute every part of physiology , so any part of the body can improve with a ketogenic / carnivore diet.
Sorry to be personal Phillip. I believe you are spot on with your advice. However, you still look a bit weighty, but I guess you are healthy as you will have had all the tests mentioned. Can you be a bit over weight and still healthy 🤔

I think an interesting study or statistics would be the range in insulin sensitivity and the range in cholesterol of 90 year olds who have never had a heart attack . Would you be able to get those numbers or might a lab have numbers for both those things (no names attached)?
Those studies have been done. The overwhelming percentage of people who live to be 90 or greater all have LDL cholesterol above 150 and show normal a1c values. What people don't understand is that only 25 percent of the population can metabolize carbohydrates. The other 75 percent will get sick from over consumption
What is a good lpir score?
ideal is less than 25. You want to compare it to fasting insulin, A1C and c-peptide as well.
