My experience has been based on hands on experience, not my qualifications. Quals work hand in hand. A CCNA does NOT make you an experienced network engineer by any means! Hands on does and more of

Absolutely fantastic that you moved away from the noisy fans when explain things. Was a pleasure to listen and learn in peace so can stay focused. Also pretty good your looking for people with skills to do the job rather than a qualification. I really struggle with getting qualifications but have a very high iq and any job I have done in my life has always been done with pride and expertise. Every job can be broken Down into very small easy tasks. Once I had a job that required very complex math. However after a couple of days training I was doing the math as if I had done an A level in it. I can tell your company is a fine place to work. I could sit there all day making ethernet cables and be happy in that environment.

Great video. Just a tip, you don't need to configure the ports to match the port-channel interface. just add ports to the port channel and they will inherit the configuration from the interface.

This is exactly the type of videos that i've been searching for on youtube for months upon months-- Actual configuration of actual switches. Can you continue to add to this series with more step-by-step configuration videos that take us beginning to end?? and it may be a lot of work but as you're doing so, could you even give us a diagram or even go back to the DC to the actual switches and point out exactly what ports are in question and how or why they're configured and linked and what intention is behind their particular configuration? from what i see, so far all we have is STP and portchannels configured with redundancy. whats next?!

Great video, but a little feedback:
Not sure it was necessary to create a L3 interface for vlan 2 (using int vlan 2). To create a L2 vlan its just ”vlan 2” and then “name Internet” to give it a description.
When showing the spanning tree states for the internet uplinks, the important column was the forwarding state for the uplinks, when both are up, one is in BLK mode, meaning it is not passing traffic, when the forward (root seen) interface is taken down then you see the other port become forwarding port.
Would be good to show how you can influence which of the two switches has the preferred Uplink in forwarding.

You could've added interfaces to the port-channel first, and then modify settings of the channel. Both interfaces would be configured at the same time.

I was hoping we would see a little more configuration(maybe a part 3) showing you guys accessing the internet from those switches. I'm curious how you deliver access in the datacenter, do customers rent IP addresses and they just configure them statically on their equipment? Do customers announce their own BGP sessions?
Thanks and I love the content!

    • @hariranormal5584
      @hariranormal5584 4 роки тому

BGP depends on what they are actually trying to do. Because how amazing Cloud VPS environments can be, the assignment of the IPs to a node from an switch which then is to the core router would probably be automated...

    • @kimkallen5594
      @kimkallen5594 4 роки тому

Even if not automated, I believe it's a lot up to the customers so it might be hard to show a specific case. They can do whatever they want with BGP and if you have your own AS, I think they can hook you up.

In fact, I'd like the longer explanation on why an ATS from a vendor such as APC would not be suitable to protect a dual feed customer with a single power supply from a power failures in your setup. I very much agree that a dual power supply switch/router should always be installed but we all know that there are customers with old equipment that you might need to keep on for a while and those might have single power supply :( The Cisco RPS option is nice but for certain environments, especially when running on pure Juniper or Extreme hardware, it might not be relevant

Interesting things to note, use of 750W PSU in the RPS, not 1150, so that means none of your switches are using 1150 PSU as this would not be supported.
Not completely true on requirement to reboot the switch, that depends on switch model, refer to Cisco Whitepaper, 3750E does not require a reboot, although I have no idea why you have shown a 3750X which does not support RPS DC connections, it uses Power Stack for redundancy.
Equipment such as Catalyst series switch gear was never designed for DC environments in the first place, the fan design as you described is just one those examples of why.

The largest servers(Or the most power-hungry) I've seen in DC's are GPU servers. Normally you could fit about 4 of these hosts into an entire rack, consisting of a head unit (a motherboard CPU, NIC's etc) which is then connected to the large JBOG below it (Just a bunch of GPU's....about maybe 8u in size). The JBOG itself consists of either GPU chips or large Nvidia graphic cards stacked. These monsters require a lot of power, about 5 PSU's in total for the entire host (1 PSU for 2 x GPU's & 1 PSU for the entire head unit). These are for customers who require a lot of number-crunching power got from the GPU's.

-I thought they used Spine-Leaf Network, with two switches in different Lans in the access layer
then connect in separate lans for distribution \ core layer and then for the Routers in the Data Center, but it seems that the two Ciscos are connected on the same LAN and therefore the etherchannel \ portchannel with the two cables on the Gi0 / 41-42 of a switch to the other, are you using a single ISP in this rack?
    -Please
I'm studying so if you don't mind, you can contact me so I can see a diagram of a rack of these two switches on the router or on the other layer above.
-Interesting configuration of the Spanning Tree PVST + with rapid and vlan 2 to connect internet on the servers, placing the default vlan 1 up to 50 in the trunk.
-And that out of the video you configured the first 3 vlans, ok the internet is the 2 the vlan 1 is the default what you put in 3?
    -Separam as administrative vlan?
-If you are not bothering to answer me, it may be by email or message I would be very grateful ... !!!

@@kimkallen5594- In the videos it was clear that they use two switches in Spanning Tree PVST + protocol with rapid, thats ok this is ok, my doubt was in the layer above in the WAN connections because from what I understood of the connection they would not be able to use two ISPs for WAN, and which vlan was the management one.
-They confirmed to me that they use only one ISP with 100% reliability and UP time (without Spine-leaf or Cisco HotStanby Router Protocol HSRP), and that the 3 vlans are an example but that the vlans from 1 to 50 in trunk are already configured .
-They were very attentive and I took the doubt that I had.
      -Thank you...!!!!

@@educastellini And spanning tree is great for that setup so the customers should be fine :) And in their WAN routers they can do other things, like multihoming with multiple ISPs and multiple other things with BGP to separate their feeds. And from earlier videos we've already seen them connecting through mutiple ODFs and such so I think they do good job in that extent! Good to hear that you're happy and all the best to you!

@@kimkallen5594 --Actually Spanning Tree is a minimum prevention for network loops, when using servers that have almost always Dual or more NICs, both spanning tree is vital that it is enabled in the factory on Cisco switches, my question was related to them using all safeguards that Cisco technologies have provided for redundant connectivity and etc ...
      - It is not necessary to use BGP with the ISP ...?!?!?!?
-Just two connections to different ISPs the cisco Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP), and ready two or more Routers inside the DataCenter and they will do the Wan redundancy and if Load-Balance is configured, only redundancy.
-I worked in a military control center data center, and the military rule regarding redundancy is "who has 1 has none, who has 2 actually has one and so on", I try to work with 4 Wan options 2 in operation with Load-Balance and two in Spare Wan in Hot Stand By, and a lot of firewalls.
-Their response is that we trust our ISP 100% and if it falls to them, it is their fault that we have no redundancy.
-This I thought was very bad, if I were a client with a need for redundancy I would not co-treat what they showed, because any professional with CCNA like me knows what I am saying in this comment.
-But they were very attentive I appreciate it.

Thanks, some questions. If I placed only a single server in your rack, do I still have to use your/my own switch? If I connect my single server directly to the red or green cable do I still need a firewall? How does my server become accesible to the outside world et: if running a web or mail sever? and the opposite, how do i close it to the outside world but only allow connection from my office lan?
Cheers, these vids are helping me a lot to understand hosting, always thought about gettting some of my services hosted but never fully understood the topologies or connectivity.

You dont need a switch or firewall if you have 1 server. Most of the time you can just use iptables for firewalling or the datacenter has a simple firewall interface

Don't connect anything to the internet that is not "battle ready". So it's a great thing you're asking about firewalls and if you are hosting a web server, make sure to serve HTTPS with proper certificates etc. Custodian can probably help you with everything related to that. Just make sure you are not skipping on security due to cost - it will bite you later.

Hey man, I am in the IT industry and personally work with servers. To get you started I would suggest getting a few certifications to help you understand computers a bit better. I started off by getting my CompTIA A+ and CompTIA network+, these are 2 very nice basic, entry-level certs that will give you a good foundation into IT. Try get an internship at an IT company who deals with servers so you can learn about servers in-person, that's how i did it.
