I know there are a lot of strong opinions about the subject matter in this song. I understand the impulse to ingest art through an ideological framework, but my hope is that you'll listen to the story before forming a judgment. People’s lives are complex and most of us don’t fit neatly into prescribed identity groups. We’re all struggling to figure out who we are and where we belong. My hope is that we’ll do it with less cynicism and more grace. If you feel the need to criticize or share an opinion, please do so with kindness. We're all trying our best.

My friend Tim! What a beautiful song! It reminded me of my past when I was rejected by church, straight friends and family after I came out to them. Yes, it was painful at the time, but I’m so glad I did it as there’s nothing more important than personal happiness.
Alan and I are praying for you. We know there’s someone out there who would love to love you like this. Don’t settle for anything else than what God has for you ❤️

Thank you so much for this song. ❤️ it means so very much to me and I’m sure many others as well. I had my mom listen to it, and she really enjoyed as well. So much art related to this topic is very prescriptive or even militant, and the power your honesty and story telling is so refreshing! We both love your voice as well 🎶

Tim: Thank you, thank you so much. I too feel your hurt, the pain, the loneliness. I too “just want someone to love like this.” For me, I deny self and take up my cross daily. Daily, for me it’s a choice. And it hurts. It hurts. I love ya man: I respect you and appreciate you so much. You are in my prayers and God bless you Tim.

While SSA has never been my struggle, I know of several people who do, and my heart goes out to them and anyone else who also struggles. The last verse is the hardest hitting for me (which ties in nicely to "Time Stopped"), as I always feel like an outsider looking in.
What I love about your music Tim is that you never make any promises, like "things will be better". Just the raw emotional honesty that doesn't make promises that can't be kept, which is such a rare thing.

Literally shed tears while listening to this
Right now, as a teenager, I'm going through something similar. I'm not a believer in Christ, but my religious community puts so much pressure on these things. To repress anything homosexual, to not love someone regardless of their gender.
And i know that in many religious sacred books that it says being gay is a sin, but i cant help but ask *why?* Why is it a sin to love someone so deeply regardless of their gender? Why is it that i have to repress my feelings, emotions and who am i? Why am i an outcast, a criminal, a *sinner* for being who i am and for loving someone of the same gender?
Why... Why was i born this way then? Why am i considered a *sinner* for simple being born this way, for being someone who would love anyone regardless of gender? Why do i have to willow in misery while others go on with their happy love lives just because their partner is of the opposite gender?
Is it because I'm different? Is it because society is built upon dangerous norms, stereotypes and beliefs?
Is it because some humans are greedy, selfish and controlling and want their way of life and their way only?
Knowing i could get killed for being who i am terrifies me. Why should i have to live my childhood fearing for my life, just because I'm attracted to someone of the same gender?
I just... I just want to be free
To be who i am and accepted for who i am
Is that too much to ask?
Sorry for ranting in the comment heh
Tim, you are amazing and brave for sharing this with us. For making the wonderful music that you make. For inspiring and giving people a sense of company, a sense that maybe they're not the only one going through this.
This song means so much to me and I can't thank you enough for making it.
Thank you so much and i wish you the best of luck in life.

Hey Tim I went to one of your concert years ago. Reach for the light helped me out of one of my darkest times I appreciate your work as an artist. Humans--people are complex in nature and honestly its always bothered me how a lot of my friends who came out of the closet and made themselves vulnerable have been hurt so deeply by the church that's supposed to preach love. Even as a heterosexual individual its physically painful to hear what you went through in this song.

Given the beginning of the track, I was concerned. I thought it was shaping up into a liberal Christian piece about same-sex romantic relationships being acceptable or righteous. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised that it was simply a storytelling, void of doctrine (mostly), but filled with personal struggle than can be understood. It actually is art and not propaganda. Well done, in that regard. Of course, I'm sorry for people go through this. In other situations in my life, I've personally find it empty to say that in eternity this type of romantic love is not going to be needed for we'll have our full and complete fulfilment in Christ in the world that is under his administration. Everyone wants relief right now, and I can empathize. I can say that I have read testimony of men's desires who have changed over their years of faithfulness to Christ and chastity. Others seem to still struggle, but have oriented their lives to daily live in the reality that Christ loves them in spite of those feelings. I know in my own issues, this is what I have to keep falling back on, and all the martyrs before me have assured me its worth it. If Christ could humble himself and endure the excruciating pain of the cross, I can endure my emotions. Stay strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.

I pray for atom because he is a brother in Christ - but I pray more for you who is guilty of the sin of Sodom. For you are proud and show no compassion. Ezekiel 16, 49:50. You should repent while there remains time - for it is our Saviour who has been given His church and in His righteousness alone we will stand before the throne of judgement, not your own.

You can come to Jesus as you are, you cannot follow Him in the same way. We should not compromise with what the Bible states is right or wrong. God is a God of holiness and He will need to strip us of our old selves. We have the freedom to choose but that freedom has consequences.
    Isaiah 6:1-3

    • @davidwleejr
      @davidwleejr 2 роки тому +7

It's not our place to state what is and isn't sin but the message of the cross is that in the presence of God, we were all once inadequate despite our greatest efforts. It's so easy to tell people to resist and deny oneself but then what? quoting a bible verse is easy but how do you really envision that individual's life to play out? do you expect that person to pursue a loveless marriage and raise a child under that dynamic? how is that fair for the wife? how is that fair for the child? how is that going to shape a person's soul and posture towards God? Is this really glorifying God? This isn't freedom, this is denying the power of the cross and why Jesus sacrificed Himself. Yes, perhaps being homosexual was not what God had envisioned for us and I cannot claim what his intentions are but it's really frustrating to see the same sort of comments minimizing what gay people have to agonize over by people who have no idea. Just look at the fruits of this type of comment. Does it bring people closer to God or does it just push them away? You think gay people are Godless? ask yourself who drove them out? If you really care about the salvation of gay individuals, your posture really needs to be about how can we help initiate a relationship between a hurt and broken soul with a loving savior.

    • @rar6546
      @rar6546 2 роки тому +4

@@davidwleejr Oh yes, I understand. Regardless of the sin that we may find ourselves involved it is a matter of as you mentioned denying ourselves and God through his Holy Spirit working in us and sanctifying us over time. I know the struggles of being a sinner since obviously I am a sinner myself. God would expect us to come to a reasoning morality and be able to discern what is sinful and what is not. He would expect us to learn and grow in our knowledge, otherwise we would not have freedom of making daily choices. If and when I may rebel in a season of my life, I would certainly hope that someone would come along side me and wake me up as a caring loving brother would. I am speaking to this person as a believer who through his history of writing songs would be claiming himself to be a Christian. I was not meaning to come across as harsh but only to sort of state wait a minute, it is one thing to be emotional and supportive but eventually we have to become strong and assertive and even courageous in taking a stand and resisting the devil through the power given is in the Holy Spirit. We are called to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. Again, it is one thing to struggle with sin but another to condone and acquiesce. I am communicating what is sin based on what the Bible states is sin. This is why Jessus called us to deny ourselves and choose His Way over what we think is better and want for our lives. We are to offer our bodies as living sacrifices. Our Creator is more than capable of changing and redeeming, delivering us from ourselves and from any sin nature.
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord, "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a Hope."
Thinking more on the lyrics of the song, he is claiming that he wants someone to love like this in his way without even thinking or offering the truth that there is a God who can change us and sanctify us into a life of living and loving His Way. He created us and knows ultimately what is best for us. This is the same whether it is a life of fornication, adultery, homosexuality or even a lifestyle of lying.

@@natalie_kendel @David W Lee _______ My apologies, I do believe I understand the meaning. I appreciate your response. I was going to stop posting after the last response from David but then we also have your message as well. So, I felt compelled to respond again.
You can speak loving truth into someones life from a personal relationship situation or responding as I have to a posted song on a public forum. All I am simply sharing is that you can have all of the sympathy in the world and all of the understanding and even acceptance of a persons life or choices, these will always fall short of truly loving that person and caring for them for their ultimate peace and joy in this world or even more so for their eternity, even if it is something they do not want to hear. We must speak of the healing, redemption that can only be found in a personal relationship with Jesus. That is our ultimate Hope and Saving Grace and what we should be guiding others to if we truly and wholly care for that person.
We all have complex lives from all different backgrounds and that is negligible with the fact that we are all made in God's Image. Our own human understanding and categorizations will always fall short. If we are Christians and believers in Jesus, who we are and where we belong is first and foremost as a Child of God. Our struggles and conflicts will never diminish until we accept this truth and start resting in it, thus allowing Him to begin His Good Work in us. We can claim and bemoan that we need to have a love based on our worldly definition of love or whatever we feel suits our inclinations, but that does not fit with God's ideal of love.
God is Love and is the true definition of love, our best and our good is and will always miss the mark.
If I have somehow been wrong in believing that Tim Be Told is a professing Christian then I apologize. This is based on his history of the songs that he has skillfully written, some of which are among my favorites. If that is not the case then I stand by what I have shared.
May He continue to complete what He has started in us, myself included.

I typically enjoy the collaboration from, Tim, but this one sort of fell short. I understand, boy goes to church, boy likes another boy, he then gets rejected by his parents and the other boy, but then it just kind of falls off. There's not much of an ending, the homosexual boy still suffers trying to find love and acceptance. Don't get me wrong or anything, I went to a 4 year Bible College and my freshmen year one of our hallmates was gay. Some people wrote him off, but he and I hanged out quit often [no homo on my end] and at the end of the 4 years, it basically was that he didn't quite understand the Gospel and who Jesus was to him, which is why he lived in Sin, until he realized who Jesus was. This is what we face today. Homosexual and Transgender is nothing new, it's that the individual does not understand what sin is.

    • @Unknown2Yoo

I don't think this was intended to put things in a nice bow. From what little I've read from him, this is an ongoing struggle, so there is no ending, his feelings and desires are still unresolved and unmet. To have and ending that tied things together wouldn't be true to his personal struggle or the lyrics. Just my two cents.

    • @David-ho6mu

@@Unknown2Yoobecause there is no end…. This is not a “choice” and God has never answered a prayer to take it away. It is a sentence for life. A life of rejection from the church and prejudice and struggle and mental health issues and the single highest reason for suicide. That’s not sin - that is not a “choice” you simply need to pray about.

    • @Unknown2Yoo

@@David-ho6mu No, there are a number of people who have shared testimonies of having their sexual desires to realign with the natural order. They've gone on to have successful families. Those that don't have that prayer answered often go on to be fulfilled in their relationship with Christ and faithful Christians. They also go on to encourage other Christians. Take Samuel Perez and Becket Cook for examples. I'm sorry if you've only seen the opposite, but your general statements simply aren't true.
