Good news, Kamon...after 3 wks of Apigard, then OA 3 treatments in 12 days, 1 wk vacation, 3 treatments OA again (was waiting on my alcohol wash container..i just did my alcohol wash and it was zero for both hives!! So happy... but i got some other problems. My one hives are overfilled with bees.. just covered..both sets of deeps and i haven't been able to see eggs.. even after shaking off frames.. went through all hive bodies for my 2 hives . Ditto for my second hive... tons of bees, can't find queens, not sure if I'm seeing eggs anywhere. Lots of nectar, brood and pollen in both hives. My first hive (top box)has almost all capped honey. My other hive... not much at all... only 2 frames in the top body. After watching your video..put on queen excluder and one box of medium super for each hive. Both hives, like i said are 8 frame deeps with bees busting out. We are having our fall nectar flow. Wasn't going to super them, but after your video and negative mite test, and overflow of bees, i added one medium box to each hive. i have a field of buckwheat going also. . Really wish i could find my queens... they were marked originally.. somebody is making bees... have a friend going to help next week to see if im queenright. Thanks for your videos as always..hope I'm making right decision on honey supers... usually have first frost around oct 15... any ideas on my queen/egg dilemma is as appreciated. Will put a pic on your FB site.
It’s nice to have the option of drawn comb. First year beek with one hive. It’s like juggling eggs thinking how to get them to draw out the most comb!!
I have kept bees for years but just got back into it . I too have only 1 colony this year and I just wanted to let you know it gets so much easier when you have 4 or 5 to work with. Good luck and I don't think you'll get much better information than Kamon's
I wish I knew more. My one and only hive has really come on strong this late in the season. LOTS of bees bringing in pollen and waddling their way into the entrance with nectar. Now I worry about my aging queen and swarming. I don't have drawn comb to backfill or another box to put on for a 3rd deep.
The easiest thing to do would be to get another box and let them work on it. Then before your first freeze, if they haven't filled it up, you can condense the hive and then you will have some drawn comb.
2 of my queens just got mated and started to lay eggs and having larvae. One was a 4 frame split covering almost 4 frames for insurance and the other was for a 10 frame hive covering about 7-8 frames where the queen was gone.
@@swarmwishes4943 hey I have no clue about keeping them all winter this late but I had a giant swarm so I boxed it up on foundation and they drawn it out nicely which is great cause in my experience drawn out comb is more valuable to me then bees lol it sounds stupid but bees are every where here drawn comb is not lol
Thanks so much for your great videos, even though we live in Northern BC, Canada and our conditions are way different....I have learnt so much from you. As far as i am concerned your beekeeping videos are the best. Thank you
Good morning sir went through my hives after your video found eight supersedure cells and what I believe to be a swarm Cell is it possible to have bothAt the same time if so what do I do
Kamon, Bob in San Diego. Thanks for this. Very helpful. Unrelated question. How do you keep your lids so damn straight? I’ve tried to copy your design (by visual from videos like this). Still, some warp. Perhaps yours do too? Would appreciate any tips.
Hmm, so it must be the difference in climate that sees you avoiding back filling and has Ian promoting back filling. I'm in California, which has a Mediterranean, subtropical climate. I'm seeing back filling with 2-3 frames of foundation and ~ 1-2 frames empty comb on the edges, 3-4 frames of brood and the queen laying less (nucs transferred to 10 frames one month ago w/ syrup and patties on). I've only got 4 hives, so swarming would suck right now. If I added a box, it would be all foundation (all I got). I guess I should just keep my fingers crossed that they will stay put!
Ian's average high temp this time of the year is at/or below 70 F in mid September. Ian should get his first frost in the next two weeks. There was some frost in his area 2 weeks ago. Tennessee is just coming off the oppressive heat of summer.
Have been sniffin' around the yards for a week or so. Yesterday I finally caught the first good whiff of gym socks. That's way up here in central Illinois
Very nice! Great information.

We on such a strong flow, these bees are absolutely killing it ! Good tips Kamon
Do you have any honey dew flow there?
How long does your fall flow usually last?

How to tell the difference between nectar and honey?
Nectar is wet and watery, honey has been dried and is usually capped.
The bees bring nectar in and change it to honey.
Judi Corbett ok so it’s the same just in a different state/stage/condition.
Yes. Also, you can shake nectar out of the comb. Uncapped honey not so much.
Darrell Hamner thanks
Thanks !!
Wow usa near good
Off topic but do you have a video on how you make your own bottom boards and tops and/or other money saving tips for bee keeping?
We will this winter
Do you leave the queen excluder in place?
If the bees move up past the excluder, that means that the queen has to stay behind and may die...?
Hi J&B, Yeah we will take the excluder off for sure
Great video, did you bullied your bee shelter your self?? Thanks
And here's where we differ with climate. It's cool you can keep going. It's backfilling time up here in the cold north.

Jon, did you see any supersedure or swarm cells?
@@danskisbees7348 no. Not a one.
Good morning Jon, now would be the time to prepare. If you're taking care of your bees like Kamon says, they're going to grow.

Good night Kamon and Laurel, I hope y'all had a great vacation.
Thanks Kamon. Appreciate it as always.
Still using laurel's hive tool?
Yeah... hers is nicer!
Got the biggest swarm ever last week in September
You can catch swarms this late, and they will survive?

That makes scense, im getting my first bees in the spring, doing the research now. Hope not to kill umm all.
Good Job on the explanations Kamon, well done on the video. I'm surprised you still have the tool, laurel will send the cats after you for sure ;)
My bees were going crazy this morning but after I gave them their sugar water they all came down.
Great to see you before the week ends!

Good tips Kamon 👌
What is your reason for running 9 frames in the brood boxes? I understand in the honey supers but wouldn't their be an advantage in 10 frames of brood
It can help it’s ventilation and they draw the comb out past the frame
Thanks for this Kamon and Laurel. Glad to see you are back up and posting videos again.
Great information. Getting hives rocking for winter.

I would love to come off of the oppressive heat of summer, lol.
