    What a blessing. This puts Ohio on the same level as many other states that are reasonable regarding homeschooling. I hope that a lot more families in Ohio will feel encouraged to homeschool!

      I completely agree. I really hope this encourages more people to homeschool.

    Is there a way that they could take away this bill?

    • @ThisSideoftheNuthouse
      @ThisSideoftheNuthouse  Рік тому +1

      This isn't a bill. This is a signed law. The law was originally in the administrative code and was passed loosely. Which is why after 30 years there were so many regulations added to it over the years. The administrative code is easily changed and altered. It was there because the governor never signed the original bill, but enough of OH congress passed it into the administrative code. With the governor's signature on the original bill, it has moved to the revised code, which means, that it is fully codified into law. The original wording is back, which is why there are no more assessments. This makes it very hard for congress to change the law and the school districts cannot add random things to the law. I believe Dewine did this, because there was another law passed this summer that completely changes how public school is structured. By signing this and codifying it, he is just reinforcing homeschooler's rights and not allowing them to be effected by the new homeschool structure.

      I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but it looks like some members of the school board may have started a lawsuit about this. I hope that I'm wrong, but it sounds like a judge put the law on a temporary hold. They don't mention home schooling in the news reports.

    Thank you so much for getting this information out. My wife and I are trying to enroll our 11 year old into homeschooling for the first time. She has an IEP with low ETR testing scores. We are getting the runaround by our local school. We tried enrolling her into a private christian school but they declined due to her low ETR test scores. Is the process of enrolling into homeschooling the same for students that have an IEP?

    • @ThisSideoftheNuthouse
      @ThisSideoftheNuthouse  Рік тому +3

      Yes. Notifying for homeschool for a child with an IEP is very similar. I believe the IEP allows you to get state resources while you are homeschooling. I will have to double check that though. I will do a full video if you'd like once I research more. I am so sorry the private school refused to admit your kid. I do know that there are lots of parents with kids that need extra help that homeschool and on facebook and IG there are whole communities to talk and vent. Let me research more and I will post soon.

      @@beautyfortheundead9726 I followed the same exact procedures to enroll my daughter. Having an IEP has no bearing whatsoever. Its the same process as any other child. DO NOT let any school board member tell you otherwise.

    Would you be able to help me? I’m a new homeschooling mother. I am totally lost.

      I would love to help. If you message me on Facebook or Instagram. I have a Facebook business page and an insta account with the same name. That way we can talk in depth. I love to help and can probably answer you better there. Email works too. I believe my email is in the contact part of my UA-cam page.

    Hi! Thanks for making this video! I know that we don’t have to worry about assessments anymore but do you know if the same goes for the standardized tests as well? I know we were able to do either one of those options and I usually just went with the CAT test. I am so hoping I don’t have to worry about those anymore! My kids always pass them with flying colors but you nailed it when you said, you don’t want to coparent with the schools anymore. So, I don’t have to worry about the standardized test anymore, correct? Thanks again! ❤️

    • @ThisSideoftheNuthouse
      @ThisSideoftheNuthouse  Рік тому +2

      Thank you for watching. Yes that means no more testing either. Fill out your NOI as you would have last year and send it in with your test for this year and include a second NOI for the new law, because that doesn't start until October and next year there are no more tests. So next year you would be sending in an NOI only.

    So grateful for finding this video. I'm a public school mom of 3 who has a feeling remote will come back and we're not doing that again. Not wearing the face diapers either. I always thought Ohio was considered a difficult homeschool state. This is encouraging. I know nothing yet really, yet learned some just now 💛✨️

      I am so glad this video helped. Yes OH up until this year was pretty difficult to get started and keep homeschooling, but with the new law, it will be a lot easier for everyone to get started and keep going. Please let me know if there is anything that I can help you with to get started. I know the start is the scariest part. Best of luck to you and your children and I completely get not wanting to do remote or the coverings. It is just ridiculous that they are treating the kids and families like that in the public school.

    Thank you for the video! I have already submitted my NOI for the 23-24 school year and received approval. If I send another NOI this October, does that mean no assessments for the 23-24 school year? Or does it only apply for the following 24-25 school year?

    • @ThisSideoftheNuthouse
      @ThisSideoftheNuthouse  Рік тому +1

      For the October deadline you have to send a second NOI stating you are homeschooling and the names of your children. That is it and that will cover this year. Next year when you report you send a similar letter minus your assessment. There is no assessment starting next year but you do need to file for both laws this year.

    What does this mean for graduating from home school cause in the past my siblings had to take a GED?

    • @ThisSideoftheNuthouse
      @ThisSideoftheNuthouse  Рік тому +1

      There was a law passed Call the Diploma Act of Ohio I believe that GED would not be required for homeschoolers. A diploma issued by the parents is all that is required. I believe the diploma is filed with the state but I am not sure. No one being homeschooled should get a GED because that states you did not complete the requirements to graduate and that is why you are taking the test. This law is just associated with current homeschoolers. Those graduating should receive a diploma their parents file and issue.
