What poker player doesn’t rly play with a lil depression u play poker everyday and sit at a table bad beats pressure etc not healthy lifestyle… deff need time off if u plan on doing it
Man it's a crazy experience that I truly believe no one can really understand what depression really is unless they unfortunately experienced it themselves. I had a really mentally fast pace, constant alert, problem riddled job for a lil over half a decade. On top of that, I was in my mid 20s _(in my 30s now)_ so I would go balls out Rock star partying after this insane stressful job I had for years. Near the end of my 6th year, I noticed my mood changed, I just go straight liquor store right after work, and straight home. Isolate myself, avoid all social after work, drink myself to sleep and repeat. I realized I just overworked myself and partying so much, I snapped and don't want nomore unnecessary social interactions. That's how broken my mind was. It gets even worst too. But to summarize, at the height of this, I had a feeling not of sadness or loneliness...something way more sinister - *_emptiness_* The kind of emptiness that's not like.. I'm sad cause no one's around, but I have no emotion, I don't care! _I don't care about life._ Live or die is the same. I win the lottery or losing a family member would still be the same. And I understand this later after figuring out that's what depression was, so I was still clueless while going thru it. But let me tell y'all - It's the worst feeling in the world. Like you rather be the saddest you'll ever get then this. Trust me. *That's how I know how serious and dangerous depression is, because past sadness, is the feeling that nothing is important enough to matter, YOU don't matter* Hope that helps explain how depression leads to suicide, I would see people say I would never be sad enough to kill myself. To that, I say exactly, but when you think your life don't matter, your actions leads to meaningless, *Suicide becomes logical in the mind of A person feeling he's worth nothing.*
Pure class and great discussion. The part where Garrett talks about asking yourself "What do you want to do right now? Make choices that are good for you, the healing process begins now." Reaaaaaaally hit home for me. Had to pause and write it down. Thank you for this.
Doug a beautiful interview and quite possibly of the finest pieces you put forward on this channel. This is the reality of all our lives. Both you and G’s expressions of vulnerability is amazingly refreshing. You do a great service to all who view this channel by modeling real conversations. Keep up this work. It is the Grail.

Congrats to both of you! I got married this year in June on my birthday, we got lucky because restrictions in Australia , Melbourne were lifted and we could only have 10 people at the ceremony. Then in 10 of July we had our party for all of the family and friends 87 people! A week later restrictions because of COVID got reintroduced, and we have been in restrictions ever since . But very blessed to have married my wife this year!
Love Garrett, he’s a big inspiration for why I like to play poker so much. And whenever he’s live at the bike or hustler I always tune in when I’m free…
Around 41:00 - Garrett states that the product of televised/streamed poker is the hole cards. Agreed 100%, anyone else remember the first year when ESPN televised the Main Event without the hole cards till the end? I don't recall the year but I do remember a guy with a purple suit lost to quads with 9s full that year lol
best poker podcast episode out of ALL poker podcasts... not close. and this is coming from a guy that usually tunes out if there isn't a strategy discussion. always thought garret was a good dude but he really just leveled up. Doug great job hosting working in some humor when appropriate.
Hustler has the best live streams in the game right now. Most players aren’t wining players so at least with live poker people get some sort of entertainment from the dealers waitresses and other players.
Absolute boss interview. Always love how candid and insightful Garrett is with his though process and personal growth. Much love to both of you for all the value you bring to the poker community 🤙❤
Interview subjects kind of skirt around it but I'd love a full discussion on live vs online poker play in terms of HUDs and being able to have calculators/randomizers at the table online. I feel like online is where the pros build their bankroll but its a completely different game for the casuals. In terms of pot odds and raise sizes.
Gmans the best. Rare to see someone who not only is able to be incredible for so long in poker but also have a great attitude toward basically everything.
The best part is doug talks about playing online 1/2 2/4 online to train for a 200/400 online game vs Daniel neg. you begin to understand the online vs live differential. Night and day.

Live poker is like going to a party where you know some people, meet some new people and occasionally a fight breaks out. Doesn't get any better than that.🤠
garret is the goat cash game player right now, he's done his solver work... not only is he good for the incredible laydowns at the top of his range, he is the most professional humble guy on the felt, his mannerisms to handle bad beats and take it like a real man is outstanding... he understands variance on another level.
Garrett is unbelievable genuine and a shows a willingness to be vulnerable. Its great to see a healthy male roll model. GGs, Doug, great content as per usual.
I totally agree with not playing homegames, 2/3 games I used to play in college I found out there were cheaters in. One was using special contact lenses to see invisible ink on the cards, the other was using marked cards. Found out 1 while playing and got my money back + some from the cheaters. The other I didn't find out until months later.

Where can I view live one vs one poker? I used to really enjoy watching the heads up tournament back in the day. It seems like the push for live poker is not there anymore.
I prefer live poker ten times over playing online. The problem is the closest poker room from me is Tunica, MS which is ~4 hours. I think a lot of people are similar to me… put a room within ~90 minutes and I’d be there once or twice every week, instead of once or twice a year.
