Putin gets to show Snowden off and show what America does. Snowden doesn’t have to say a word. His very existence is enough.

One motivation of Putin that nobody's mentioning is what a middle finger to the US it is to keep Snowden alive and well. And the fact that he can successfully keep Snowden safe is a flex of Russian power to stand up to the US. The reason the US is so adamant to get Snowden is not because he continues to pose any actual threat to the government. Punishing Snowden would be entirely symbolic, just like giving him asylum is entirely symbolic.

    • @id10t98

How so? Snowden was a low level peon, working for a contractor to the US government. It's not like he led the NSA or anything more than a lemonade stand.

It’s simple. The Russians knew Snowden’s story itself does more damage to the US. So by keeping him protected it keeps the story alive which ultimately can help their cause which is to help the decline of trust people have in the US on a global scale.

Putin is hated by the same elites that turned America into a fiscal train wreck beyond repair, not because he has been bad for Russia... quite the opposite.
He is hated, to the point of figures like Biden openly talking about affecting regime change in Russia to "rescue" the Russian population from him, precisely because he took the Russian nation off its knees... he brought economic and political stability to Russia.
And he achieved this modest success in a sustainable manner... it wasn't financed by debt. Russia's national debt is extremely low compared to most Western nations.

The biggest takeaway for me from this is that people in the west will never be able to understand that we simply approach things differently...Glen got to peer into it a bit,Scott Ritter is trying very hard to understand it and is getting a decent understanding of it, but the bottom line is, the number of attempts to convey a message via words to a person that doesnt live our culture will never suffice...you either come and experience it and then u understand how we do things and why we do them or you...keep having this approach that Patrick has and u have ur reasons for it,but to us it always has looked like and will continue to look like projection...you are taking what you have in your culture, what you expect of your people and your government, and you keep projecting it onto everyone else.
The thing that bothers me here is that people are either so open minded that their brains fall out,or they arent open minded nearly enough to grasp that some things are done differently in other parts of the world. You need more gray areas in your life.

I'm a Chicano from Los Angeles ( Mexican born in former Mexican states aka the South West ). This comment of yours is something that individuals like me mention when talking to others who are like minded. It's like people are so open minded out here about anything that " liberated them " ( which is really code for degeneracy and not being held accountable for your actions or judged by them ) but they somehow can't believe that there is still people that exist out there who have principles and abide by them for moral and ethical reasons.
Also, this Patrick guy is good when talking about making money and business but he also lives in Los Angeles. One of the most corrupt cities in the country on just about any level you can think of. Including government ! This also true about many citizens here although there is exceptions ( like anywhere else ). However, unfortunately the exceptions do not make up the majority within the population and therefore people in Los Angeles are very deceptive by nature without even knowing it.
As I said, I'm a Chicano 🇲🇽. Just look at the history of Los Angeles and what it has done to it's citizens and dive into the zoot suit riots between Chicanos and the US Marines here in LA. This should further let you know what you suspect or already know. Like many do 😏😒.

I think Putin provided asylum to Snowden because he wanted to show the world, that despite deals being offered by other countries, especially from a powerful country like the USA, He would do the right thing and provide protection to a random individual, which in turn would lead to respect and appreciation from people from the entire world. I think Putin would consider sending him back to the US if he was offered something really great and big that would be more beneficial than the prestige of providing Snowden protection, I don't think the deal was good enough to incentivize him to give Snowed to the US. Moreover, it could also be worth noting that He knew what Snowden would face going back to the US, so maybe humanity also played a role here. Apple has since removed the film Snowden from its library. Gone even though I purchased it. I have two phones. One hasn’t been connected to the net and it remains downloaded there. The other is connected to the net and the film is no longer available. Might hint at the extent of the reach of the interests involved. Odd…

Even before Putin became famous, he was known for being very methodical, orderly to the point of being seen as boring and dull. Everything had to be done according to the law, he never took any bribes, he was very predictable, and this quality of Putin attracted Yeltsin. So, with Snowden, the explanation was that there was no exchange treaty between Russia and the USA. Russia proposed it many times but the US always declined, which was understandable - who would flee to Russia? Putin wanted a treaty, a signed document for future deals but he did not get it. America resorted to intimidation and pressure as always, but this time could not bully the other side into submission.
It also does not help that the US made this negotiation public, they even sent a plane to Moscow to pick up Snowden and had to land it at the last minute somewhere in the Baltic countries. The fact that the US cancelled Snowden's passport while he was waiting for his connecting plane in Russia, making it impossible for him to board any international plane, does not inspire much confidence in CIA intelligence or give one a thought that it was all done by design.

No one likes to be constrained, including in what they say, free speech was intended for peace and some try to make it anything but.
Some say they want equality, but constantly think their words have more power.
Everyone's answers hide in the opposite point of view and so does empathy, forgiveness and peace.

There is, indeed, such a moral Russian code as shielding those who turn to you for protection. It's not political. It's very Russian a thing because the Orthodox Christianity had a huge impact on Russian mentality: "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." The Russian FSB absolutely could try to ask if Snowden would cooperate, but it also abolutely would accept "no" based on principles.
The whole Snowden ordeal came up at the time Russia had been undertaking huge efforts to improve relationships with the US. While Snowden was sill living in the Moscow airport and the US was pressuring Russia, Putin went to Turkey for a visit and , at some pont, held, together with Erdogan, a press-conference. Some journalist asked if Russia would arrest Snowden and/or extridite him to the US. Putin looked frustrated, unhappy, but answered in his usual reserved way: Snowden had breached no Russian law, so no, he would not be arrested. Neither he would be extradited as Russia did not extridite the individuals wanted on political reasons. Besides, he added, Russia and the US had no extradition agreement.
