@@arthurhill3454 The movie was shot in color in 1938 and 1939. Only the Kansas sequences were filmed in sepia.
@@thefiyoumovies may i ask how you colorized the Sepia colors in this scene, i would absolutely love to hear from you about it
0:25 It's just magical how the entire atmosphere shifts the moment she starts singing
❤️⭐❤️⭐🌈
I think it's because Judy already recorded the song in the studio, and the moment she is supposed to start singing they pipe in the recording and she is just lip synching.. In case she fucks up they wont have to re-shoot the whole scene. I'm just assuming that's what happened
Judy Garland was 16 years old when she sang this song. Her star will shine forever.
🙏❤️⭐❤️🙏
Very interesting to see that part coloured, yes of course the black and white bits of the film make it. However as I wrote nice to see it coloured, well done.
Actually it was Sepia not Black & White.
The Wizard of Oz 1939 in colorized in the dvd and the bluray too
@@bryantfloyd7471 technically it was black and white because it was filmed in black and white film, then the film was dyed sepia
This is heresy. This part of the film is in black and white, and it's not for nothing.
Used. By practically everyone who was ever in her life. Judy Garland owned one of the greatest voices ever heard, and really? All it ever gave her was heartbreak, and the belief that love is a commodity.
Godspeed for one of the greatest entertainers to ever live.
🙏❤️🥺❤️🙏
So sad to know that by this stage, she was already heavily addicted to pills. What makes her an even more incredibly actress is that benzadrine (the amphetamine she was given) dulls the emotions and makes you feel somewhat numb and yet she was able to emote and act as if she was truly living the scenes and songs she was singing
Already at that time, are you sure ?
@@thefiyoumovies yes! Her mother had her on these drugs when she was 10 years old
@@benjaminfranklinthe180th4 🙏🥺🥺🙏
@@benjaminfranklinthe180th4 It's possible Ethel Gumm did start her on the pills, but I don't believe it wasn't until her early twenties that she probably became addicted. After Oz, Judy became a big star, so that is probably when her drug use began to increase a great deal.
@@robertgold3868 she was addicted way before her early 20s. In fact, she was addicted by the age of 15. She was on Benzedrine (amphetamine) and Tuinal, Seconal and Nembutal (barbiturates) and those drugs are faaarrr stronger than the uppers and sleeping pills we have today. It only takes 5 weeks of daily use of those drugs to become addicted because they’re so potent. She had began daily use of these drugs when she signed with MGM at 13 years old
The best colorization hands down. Thank you for sharing. Beautiful!

Bring back the Uncut version that i saw on TV in early 1990s that ran much longer and had Over The Rainbow reprised where Dorothy was trapped in castle singing it, very emotional, real tears in my eyes watching as a kid, always stick to my heart.

This is incredible!! Thank you!

Over the Rainbow belongs to Judy Garland. It doesn't sound right when someone else sings it. it is one of the greatest songs of all times.

Nice job. Of course, this part of the movie is meant to be black and white as part of the storyline, but I have always wondered how it would look in color.

Timeless!.. I watched the Wizard of Oz on TV last night.. it is emotional 👍🎵🎥
😃😉👍
it no doubt a classic but to me growing up as a kid and with my family watching the uncut version in early 1990s, which ran to 130mins for TV, was a honor, i think the Oscar win to this maybe, was for the emotional performance cut to this song when Dorothy (Judy) was trapped in the castle, which was only on the Uncut Version for television, sadly it has been lost or not used since 1995.

This looks excellent! How did you do this? I know you did frame by frame, but is there a tutorial you can do? I’ve experimented with colorizing apps (photoshop, Deoldify, NN), but I can never seem to get it the right consistent color
deoldify would work not too bad, like other techniques the problem comes from us not from the softwares... I correct my video in black and white before the colorization. it is necessary a big variety of gray, but also intense blacks and especially to preserve the faces slightly gray, if not it will not take the orange pinkish tint. then I make an upscaling in 1080p, and I colorize. I process in pixel enhancement at 133.3% so 1440p, then I make a neutral pass at 100% for face recovery, so still in 1440p, then a final pass at 200% so 2880p or 5K with a treatment to soften the artifacts and I compile my images in MP4 . then in Adobe Premiere after synchronization with the sound track I correct the colors of each sequence or change of plan by playing on the lumetri.. many people think that I put the video in a software and that by magic it comes out finished! but it's often 3 or 4 days of work for 2 minutes...
@@thefiyoumovies Thank you! That sounds like a lot of work, but this is the best results of colorization

This song and scene does a great job at kinda making the audience feel bad for Dorothy and making the mood feel a little more gloomy. Of course this changes as she goes meets the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion. While I’m aware the production is quite infamous, the movie’s still a masterpiece, that’s for sure!

Which program did you use to colorize this?
It's a lot of time, research and experimentation, so that I manage to find almost natural settings, despite the faults and imperfections. Everything I use exists on the internet, but to make a 2-minute clip, the video goes through Adobe Premiere for a JPG sequence exporation. then the frame by frame colorization, then a pass in 2.5K, sometimes a second for a deep treatment, and a third in 5K before redoing a synchronization with the sound track as well as the comparative view with the original. Look for image colorization software 🙏🙏🤐🤐🤷♂️

Was this from a disc, or did you edited this clip? Please respond.
I don't quite understand the question!
I took the Blu-ray footage and transformed it into black and white, then colorized it. I also processed the pixels to eliminate grain and improve sharpness!
@@thefiyoumovies I asked you if the colored version you published was from a disc (dvd. 4k, or blu ray), but fortunately, you answered my question. You edited this clip like you just said. So, all I can say is, thanks for answering my question, now that I know that this is actually edited.

"The Wizard of Oz", starring by Judy Garland in 1939 and based on the book by L Frank Baum in 1900. "Follow the yellow brick road" which may seem like a simple metaphor but it contains a relevant message. "Follow the yellow brick road" is an allegory of Faith on the path of life, with the message that on that journey there are many paths, but “only one” is colorful, bright and at the same time winding, and it leads us to our final destination, our heavenly home, scrutinizing with heart and wisdom, with effort and courage to move forward in a fallen world. As the ballad of the film The Wizard of Oz, winner of the Oscar for best original song by Harold Arlen, expresses: “Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high, there is a place with blue skies as we once dreamt which will come true”. 🌈
💥🌈🙏🙏🙏👍😉🙋♂️

Sure wish i could see how the wicked witch would look with such detailed colorization possible now in 2024.
😉🧙♀️👍
Notice how Dorothy is wearing blue while everything else as well as her family are in dull colours?
This symbolises the beginning of the story by Frank Baum as everything in Kansas was grey and Uncle Henry and Aunt Em were said to be grey looking in other words grim while Dorothy was a cheerful child despite her upbringing.
😉👍
The grayness of Kansas was the whole point of the Kansas sequences, and that is why they were shot in B&W in the first place. In the book, Dorothy didn't even put on the gingham dress until she got to Oz.
Can u post the whole film (black and white scenes only) in colour through this method and share with us. I did the black and white scenes through deoldify and it looks good but not perfect. This method is more reliable colourising the frames individually.
I may do this one day but it's complicated at the moment you will understand why in the next few weeks stay well connected🙊🙊🙊

MGM studio wanted to cut this scene but the director and producers fought hard to keep it and so they agree to leave this scene in the final version.
😉😉😉👍👍👍
The Kansas sequences was made Colourless for a Reason .
As far as the Sepia tone it was Representation to the Dull, Boredom and yet Wonderous Life about Dorothy Gale,
Seeing the Colourization shows What Dorothy had all along need to wake up to before setting her adventure to the Land of Oz.
This is what she learns in the end as she wakes up to her still Colourless kansas she sees and this knowing shs going to spread her Rainbow like she did the moment she see the land of Oz when it was everything she never Knew before.
In Return to Oz/Journey Back to Oz Kansas was No longer Colourless in the Eyes of dorothy as she was more accepting to her Life and Family.
🌈👍😉

Very nice, but Judy's lips are too pale and her hair is mostly too dark rather than auburn. Maybe a bit more red hue needed. Thanks for posting it anyway.
