This is a hardboiled action period show about ""Kagekari (assassin)"" hired against Bakuhu.
Edo Bakuhu (the government in Edo era) has suffered from financial crisis. It hired ""Kage (Oniwaban: Ninja)"" so that it will collapse small hans (prefectures). ""Kagekari"" is people who were hired by Daimyos (mayers of local governments) to resist ""Kages"". The young mayer of Suwa Takashiwa, Tadamaru was assaulted by Kages on his way to Edo. Zyubei and Gennnosuke, the Kagekaris, try to carry injured Tadamaru to Edo...

The Bakufu was the Shogun's military government historically located in Kamakura. Kage translates directly as "shadow or darkness."
It's not Emperor who gave the permission, but Shogun. During the Edo era. The emperor didn't have power over clans. 'Okami' meant Bakufu, and the shogun is the top of the Bakufu government.
Bakufu was started in Kamakura in 1192, but in Edo period 1603, much later, this dram setting and the Bakufu was then in Edo, now called Tokyo.
Yes Yoritomo did start it off in Kamakura. But, like the Emperors before them, the multiple Shoguns have established their governments in multiple places too. The Minamoto and their Hojo Regents set theirs up in Kamakura, the Ashikaga settled in Kyoto (Imperial Capital) and finally the Tokugawa settled in Edo/Tokyo.
This is my favorite movie when i was a kid ,,i hope the actors is stil alive,,gud job ,mabuhay!!!

I haven't watched it yet, but I recognise the actor from one of my top five films, Hara-kiri. That's enough; and now I will watch it.
What movie is this? It isn't Shadow Hunters from 1972. Everyone keeps mentioning Tatsuya Nakadai, who wasn't in Shadow Hunters.

i don't understand japanese movies at all....to me they are all identical, a bunch of men in baggy clothes waving swords and shouting loudly in angry voices........in western cowboy movies there is also an awful lot of sameness and repetition especially prior to 1955 but not to the degree that these japanese sword play movies extend.....i can't recall a japanese movie that isn't about sword murdering assassins and one army cutting up another army and maybe some 2 or 3 seppuku
View Rashomon. In Rashomon, the samurai is already dead from the beginning of the film, there are no armies - why not those piles of men waving their swords. It's something else.
Ok, now tell me about movie genre where you cannot see repetations. Try Twillight samurai, that movie probably will hit you differently.

My favorite Samurai movie was The Hunted Ninjitsu Samurai 1971. Toho. Studios. Bloody, beautifully filmed.
