Old Joliet Prison, a filming location of the 1980 movie The Blues Brothers, as well as the hit TV show Prison Break. This former state penitentiary was in service from 1858-2002 and sat abandoned until 2018 when Joliet’s Park District opened the facility for tours.
    About the Channel
I love to seek out travel places and roadside attractions in America. I'm also an American history and pop culture buff and do my best to incorporate that love of history and pop culture into my videos. I visit roadside attractions, museums, nature preserves and places of historical significance, visiting places around Chicago's north suburbs, Chicago's west suburbs and downtown, with plans to travel the rest of this great country through this UA-cam journey.

Really interesting! I used to drive by that prison quite a bit back when I lived in the southwest burbs of Chicago. Never went inside though. I’m kinda surprised they let people walk around inside given how it seems to be in such disrepair. Thanks for the tour!

Thanks for watching! One thing I didn’t get on film was that the guy working the gift shop said the park district is looking to restore many of the buildings so the public can walk through them. There were only a small fraction open to the public when I went.
