Backs should wear football boots
Forwards wear rugby boots
Our club requires us to wear studs even as a back, fake pitches here also require rugby studs
Thank you for this video! My son just signed up. My worry is he has a large foot-size 13 (North American). Wish me luck finding his boots!
To clarify-long foot but not wide foot.
Ah glad the video helped
hello mate, what boots would you recommend for an inside center I have looked at the adidas predator malice controls soft ground, cause I have heard they are pretty good,I need to Increase my speed abit so looking for light boots ideally wot do yu recommend.Do you think I should go for the Adidas malice controls?
Hi! Thanks for the video! I've question, would yo still recommend the Adidas men's malice boots for artificial grass?
Yes definitely and you can change the studs depending on the length of the grass. Thanks for watching
I play as a second row and some times as a flanker often on artificial pitch but some times on natural as well. The main problem is that I have very very wide feet. Here in portugal this season ended and im going to wait for the next season to buy another pair of boot because my feet are still growing. I really like the adidas malice but they seem very narrow so what kind of boots do you recomend. Cheers
Well as a broad footed second row myself, granted in Scotland where SG boots are king (literally I have one game this season on AG, the rest is natural) I would consider Asics or Mizuno. Both offer HG, FG and AG options.
Now here's the rub, AG is a specialist surface and wearing anything else is a knee injury waiting to happen. Generally my advice is get the best pair you can for the surface you play on, and then worry about the odd games with a cheaper pair.
Great tips Gordon TY
Only ever played in primary, so all my history is playing barefoot. I've found most boots are too tight. what are some light ones for wide feet?
I played as second row and is it good if i use predator freak .1 SG
Thanks.
You're welcome
I bought some new boots recommended from this vid but my right heel keeps slipping out of the boot, I’ve tried boot heel grips and insoles. Not sure what to do as they cost quite a bit but can’t return them
Try a heel lock lacing method. I've made a video on this
I play in a pitch which has grass that is only slightly better than your average yard grass, what's your recommendation
I play on the wing and I’m currently wearing Adidas predator XPs but I got them a half size
Too big and they kill my feet. I have wide feet and when I was wearing those I could hardly walk after 1 sprint. Do you think the reason they hurt is because they are too big or is it the boot itself. I’m considering buying the predator malice boots now in a half size smaller
Great boots. I have found that Adidas are always on the smaller side and I always have to wear atleast a size larger. Maybe try soaking and wearing them in warm water to soften them up and mould to your feet better. Also make sure you buy some decent socks. we spend hundreds on boots to then wear a pair of socks that have been in the team kit back for the last 3 years. A decent pair of sock will go a long way and make your boots so much more conformtable. Hope this helps bro.
I will start playing again and stay at the bench to play winger, center, openside flanker and number 8. What do u think about the Gilbert Kaisen X 3.1 Power? My main focus is openside flanker but I should stay agile in case I will play winger or center. I was thinking about the Kaisen 1.1 but they miss out on agility I think. Sorry to bother you
Great boots but the 3.1 are more forwards focused - 1st and 2nd row. Maybe consider the 2.1 pace version as the suit a few different position that you want could end up playing. Hope the you have a good season bro.
@@GYMVUK Thanks a lot man :D hope you have a great day
What boots would you recommend I’m a centre that likes to get into rucks but can do the fancy steps
Any suggestions
Hi Ben, good to see a back that doesnt mind rucking. I'd go for something similar to the studs on the adidas malice boot but order the longer stud aswell. You can use the short studs in spring/summer.
Predator malice are one of the best out there or the new adidas XP
where can you buy the rugby boots?
Im a second row, any suggestions. Thanks for replying to our comments.
Second rows are predominantly where the power will come from so you'll need a good stud to match the conditions. Do think that one pair of boots will fine all season. I'd reccomend having a couple of pairs.
Wet and muddy go for a big long stug
Dry - a mixture of smaller studs like the adidas malice.
Good thing about adidas is they offer different length studs.
Always have spairs.
Hope this help and thanks for watch. Remember to subscribe and give us a like.
I play alot of different positions since im short but also wide and big so i play from ranges of flanker, fly half since i can kick, and outside center. What would you recommend for boots I pretty young as well so what would be the best boots for me since i hop around the pitch a lot
Adidas malice
@@natthanbagshaw7410 just bought a pair hope there good for the season
What boot would you recommend for a wing, I do make a lot of quick breaks so I would want a boot that would be good for speed, thanks
Something light would be perfect Jayden but maybe consider if you are kicking aswell. One of my top tips is to have a couple pairs of boots with soft ground and hard ground studs. I'd love to know what you end up buying.
Any nike football boot mate 😂
I am winger, stadium is not that hard, iron studs not allowed, i need speed and kicking? Recommendation?
what are the boots called at 2:45?
I am a prop who is looking for a pair of boots,as a prop can I get a 10 stud boot as the second row the locks
Hi , which boots would you recommend for a long time open side flanker . ( I am trying to gift this to my SO for his birthday)
The Adidas Malice are incredible and come with my recommendation. If they don't have his size just make sure they have a similar stud to the ones linked below. They do loads of different colours. The Adidas Predator XP SG are also amazing boots.

@@GYMVUK ahh thank you so much for getting back to me and the recommendation 🙂.. I was looking at the canterbury stampede and adidas kevlar.. so I scrap these off my list?
Recently had an ankle injury and looking to get back into it next season. Going to be playing in the forwards as a prop and a loose forward. I play on grass pitches mostly. What boot wouod u reccomend? I need it to have good support for my ankle ideally.
Hey Joel, there are boots that may offer some ankle support. Like the predators the compression sock will give you a bit of support. Front row boots generally are a bit bulkier. I would make sure you do some ankle exercises to strengthen that area to build resistance (jump and stick from a box or jump and stick onto a box, one leg hops forwards and backwards and side to side etc). Also look at getting some zinc tape and putting a heel lock on the ankle to give you extra support. There will be video on how to do this on UA-cam. Hope this helps Joel.
@@GYMVUK this was very helpful. Thank you
Would you recommend malice for scrums?
What position do you play Tom? If you are a flanker or 8 I would say yes they would be perfect even in wet conditions. Adidas do a longer stud to fit these aswell which is useful. Adidas studs arent cheap though and cost around £10 per pack. But I'd always recommend have spares so you'll need to buy a spare set anyway.
Second row positions on a good pitch and the malice would be ok but lower level pitches can be muddy and really soft so even second row I'd say you'd need a longer stud.
Hope this helps bro. Let me know what you buy
Hi I’ll be playing wing/centre on both artificial grass and real grass for training and games. What would you recommend?
Hey Felix, you'll need something for speed. I'd say atleast a 6 stud boot. Remember when playing rugby you always need that extra grip to rouck even as a winger. Maybe get a slightly shorter stud for artificial or hard surfaces. If its really hard you'll need mouldies bro. I'd always carry a couple boots just incase.
can i use soccer cleats for rugby as it is hard to find rugby cleats
Yeh sure you can but if it is wet, muddy or you're in the scrum you'll need a better stud. What cleats do you have??
I play weekend rugby on "cow grass" wearing football boots with this info I'll get real rugby boots. Thanks
Glad the video helped
Can you recommend some boots for outside centres
lols, what type of pitch do you play on. I always buy the same boot with a different stud options.
Hi im a new player starting soon and wanted to know what cleats I should get
hopefully the video explains what type of boots you should buy. It will depend on position you play and the field conditions.
@@GYMVUK I am new too! And I have started as Wing because I am really thin. I know that I need something light because I have to run very fast and also, I have to kick, so I need something comfortable. What can you recommend me? What kind of fabric? Leather? And 6 or 8 stud boots?
I play number 8 but mid game my coach put me in the wing position. And recommendations
If u feel uncomfortable in that position tell ur coach. Trust me a rugby coach will not keep you in a position that you are not comfortable in then they will move you. A coach will want you to play to your best ability so just mention to him. Im sure he will understand 😉
@@muffindraws6076 no I meant that in open play I play like a wing but my position is number 8
@@muffindraws6076 so my struggle is finding the right shoe. The one with good grip are usually heavy and the lighter one are not gripping
@@jeredepro0822 I would use football speed boots
bro what boot is at 2:15?
Hey so im playing hooker this year, but the way my coach is putting me is he wants me to make a bit more runs since I'm a big boy but got some speed. Any suggestions? would also like if they had a bit of ankle support
Hey Hot Sauce, these would be good mate. The Kakari are a fantastic boot for front row players. they have a bit of ankle cushioning aswell.
www.prodirectrugby.com/products/adidas-Kakari-Elite-SG-Core-Black-Signal-Pink-Crystal-White-Mens-Boots-227659.aspx
or the Kakari X which offer a bit more ankle support. get the shorter studs aswell so you have oprions to change them.

@@GYMVUK My son is a loosehead prop playing on his college team. He absolutely loves these adidas kakari X kevlar boots.
@@dickgenitalia1506 I feel Adidas make the best Rugby boots on the market at the moment.
Hi Im a lock and I'm very fast for my length would a normal 8 stud boot work and I'm in 8th grade rugby
As a lock you'll need all the grip you can get. Most of the drive and power will come from you. Is say depends on the pitch condition. In wet and soft youd def need more and larger studs. The harder the pitch just reduce the studs.
Remember that when you see pro rugby the pitches are amazing and take a stud nicely .
@@GYMVUK OK thanks
Are asics lethal speed good for flankers/8s?
Great boots but may not offer you enough grip in soft or wet conditions. You may see professionals wear these types of boots but remember they play high quality pitches. If you're on an AstroTurf pitch they would be ideal. Hope this helps Dave. Thanks for visiting the channel. BB

Adidas are making some awesome Rugby boots for all positions. If you look at boots pros are wearing 60% are adidas.
Asics mate great boots for front row and backs. Asics are also very popular in Rugby League for hard surfaces.
@@GYMVUK arent the kakaris suitable for the tight five?
@@donjorvead2431 Great boot. Front row may need a few more studs though. Great for back row and you can aslo change the studs to suit the conditions.
@@GYMVUK preferably that karkari is too heavy for back rows imo, I'd probably go with malices. But thank you for the input
Do you support saints by any chance😂?
I play 8 would you say the adidas Kakari sg boots are good? I play on grass
Awesome boots, Adidas are leading the way with Rugby
I'd like to see Nike make boot suitable for a scrum.
Playing at scrum half this year, any ones you’d recommend?
James great to hear you're playing at scrum half. Hopefully we'll get back to playing soon bro. I'd go for something light but gives you good grip. Kicking in this position is key so something that is good on the kick.
BEAST BRIGADE thanks mate.
Nike phantom academy you see a lot of pro scrum halves in the gallagher premiership I'm fly half and they are brilliant for kicking light for running also adidas predator does a good job
Thanks @thegrimey
@@GYMVUK anything to help someone out
Which boots are best for a rugby league winger who plays on proper grass I am size 12
Id always go fo a light boot. It does depend on how hard the grass is. If its really hard then go for mouldies and if it is good soft grass then go for a 6 stud or more boot. stay away from big clunky studded boots that are designed for rugby union forwards. hope this helps bro
@@GYMVUK do you know any examples mate
Where can you buy size 14us online?
Have you tried Pro Direct Rugby. Great boots with some crazy deals.
Im a prop what should I use
Hey Zimpk, you need a boot that's going to give you loads of grip and support so you'll need an 8 metal stud boot on wet or muddy conditions. Let me know what umyiu buy. Check my Amazon page which recommends loads of decent boots:
www.amazon.co.uk/shop/bbskillsandfitness
yo, im going to play openside flanker for the first time, what boots should i get, are there any comfortable ones?
im the fastest in the team, and 6ft
Hey Speed Rider, thanks for the comment.
You'll need a stud similar to the adidas Malice bro. You need a stud that'll help you support the front row but will allow you to go beast mode a tear up that pitch with that speed you have.
Adidas do a slightly longer stud aswell if you need it which cool.
Check out the pitch condition though and always have a spare spare of boots.

@@GYMVUK Would the adidas predator 20 be any good?
@@speedrider5517 yeh they have a similar stud to the malice. I'd buy the slightly longer stud for soft conditions though. I reviewed them last month so check out that video to get a closer look. Awesome boot.
are you allowed to wear soccer boots in rugby sevens?
You can but the studs have be safe. The laws say round studs but refs are generally pretty sensible. No sharp studs or to pointy.
My shoes have 14 studs what does that mean? I just got the shoes so i dont slide with the normal shoes
Depends on how big the studs are and are they a mixture of metal and moouldies? What make are they?
@@GYMVUK maybe mouldies or some kind of hard llastic idk but im am a scrum in rugby also

Any good boots for a second row ?
Tibias I'd just say go for a boot that has pond stud and a good amount of studs. Alot of the power comes from second row and don't want to slipping. Thanks for visiting and don't forget subscribe. I've made a video on what's studs are best for what positions.
what are the boots at 3:56 ?
These are the Adidas Ace boots.
These replaced the predator line before they preds made a return. Here they are on Amazon:

I've made a video on stud choice you migh like
The boots for forwards me being one are awful these days the options are crap they don't offer wide fittings and the cheap options don't exist and if they do the quality are crap and last all of 5 mins

Thanks for the reply boots look amazing
hi just wondering, what size stud do you recommend for me, i am a number 10/centre and wear boots with 6 studs. I need to buy new studs for my boots but i'm not sure what size i need. I also have a pair of boots with moulded studs that would be good for kicking. Do you think i should stick with them ?
6 studs would be OK on soft ground. Don't get the large ones that forwards would wear. Look at some Adidas Rugby boots with a mix of metal and moulded stud. Adidas do diffent size studs for there boots aswell.
@@GYMVUKhi, I have bought adidas boots but I think I have the wrong studs as they are huge and I’m a back, I have tried studs switching them with my old back boots ( Canterbury ) but they won’t fit in, is this because of the brand? Could I just go on amassing and buy adidas back studs and they’ll fit ?
This would depend on the pitch conditions. Your boot needs to be light but also good in the breackdown, and like you said, it need to be good to kick with.
@@hehe7327 Adidas boots only take adidias studs. You can get the football studs which are a bit shorter and better for harder pitches. A pack of adidas studs are usually around £10
I play hooker , 5’10 264 but I’m very fast and some times I switch to inside center when needed, what boot do you prefer I get
Thanks for the comment DeKauri. I'd go with a boot that allows you to flip between position. Maybe like a hybrid hybrid boot with 6 metal studs and some mouldie studs.
Ideally have 2 sets of boots, one for each position. A less clunky boot fir when you play centre so you're a bit more agile.
Here are some great boots we recommend.
www.amazon.co.uk/shop/bbskillsandfitness?listId=IY53FOLCFXZ4&ref=inf_list_own_bbskillsandfitness_cp
Cucumber milk
Blades are questionable as they are not aloud
They are aloud as the laws state that the stud should be round and they even recommend a dimension (width and height). The main thing is that if the ref says they are not safe and they are moulded you are screwed. Say for example one metal stud is a bit sharp then you can simpky just change it that one stud and you are good to go.
Blades can become very sharp especially if you are walking on concrete to get to pitch.
BEAST BRIGADE thank you
Totally wrong 😡the logic does net make sense the pictures were wrong
What is wrong and maybe I could explain it better
