Awesome, thanks for sharing. And holy cow do you have a deal with a local board shop to get their old decks??? 😳😱👍
I’ve been lucky enough to have a few friends and shops donate 10 or more boards over the years, sadly most shops around me already have deals like that😭 Thanks for watching!!
@@skatechair ohh awesome, yeah there seems to be a ton more people using old skate decks to make things out of nowadays. When I was younger people either hung em on wall or rarely made chairs or benches out of
@@JonnyDIY they usually last just as long as a board! The only time the grips gotten worse then the board was when I sweat so bad from skating so much it started to peel on the sides. You also might need to wipe it with a damp towel if you skate somewhere dusty but that’s pretty rare
Wow almost 10,000 views 🎉
wait your shoes are in such conditions after 4 years of skating them? goddam. i would finally be able to skate my converse collection without ripping them! great!!!
Hell yeah!! it’s so nice having multiple shoes to skate in without worrying about destroying them
respect, loving this bro, you can really skate in small space, stop living the past, no more old grip tape
Yoo thank you homie!! I have a newer DKL video too if you’re interested, i was having some problems with REAL’s but I learn a bunch of new tricks using the grip and show my year old shoes that look almost new. it also shows how far the garage has came 😃
nice review and good info. btw DKL's instructions say to cut in a quarter inch, not a half inch. i've skated 2 decks with DKL grip. First one was great. 2nd one was mostly good--the grip on the tail peeled off even though I cut in 1/4 inch. Also the grip wore out before my deck broke, but that's better than tearing up my shoes. I still have 3 more sheets that I'm going to try.
Oh man, didn’t even realize I said a half inch that would definitely be too much. Wish I could edit that good thing I was already gonna make a new video. Oh yeah I’ve never had a peeling problem after I started doing it the way I did in this video, you gotta put some work into the file, I just think it’s worth it haha. Hopefully the new ones do well ✌️
To be honest DKL should upgrade there website and videos to show this is a option as a method in terms of wearing out the griptape around the edge of the board as I did the same thing on my 2ed grip and having much better results so its funny to see you do the same thing here...Maybe it will catch on. Funny enough they just redid the streets in my neighborhood so I ended up going outside to the street and grabbing a broken piece of the old street aka basically a rock to wear out the edges of my grip even though I have many files on hand I just felt like id be able to get more down force holding the rock and never even tried a proper file yet. I would like to try a dremel tool at some point just to see how it goes.
That is funny bro didn’t think anyone else would try it that way haha I actually sent them this video and they were surprised by how we grip it too. They said if I make another vid they would work with me, maybe a video on their site for that would be a good idea! Thats crazy but I could imagine a rock working better to get more force in it
@@skatechair Thanks for the reply and that would be sick! I hope it all works out for you with the video and all. Yeah grinding down the edges is for sure the way to go on this gen 7 grip.
Would have liked to hear more, like how does if feel if there’s lots of moisture in the air? I only tried dkl once and it was winter and my feet would constantly slide off.
Really!? I live in NY and never had anything like that happen but one year it was extremely dusty at my local park and I had to wipe my board every few days. I actually just left a comment on this video and decided I’d make a much better follow up video going over some questions I got and things I missed! Also got a tone of cool skateboard builds to come!
i heard it messes up when it gets dusty or wet. what's your experience?
Yeah man if it’s really dusty it might need to be wiped with a damp towel then it’s like new again. If it’s raining it gets too slippery to do tricks but if water or something just spills on it it’s very easy to dry.
Transition to regular grip to try it out again ?
I actually did in my more recent DKL video! I’m probably gonna do another where I try to get the same clips with each grips and see what’s better!
do you have a problem with dust. I have heard that?
It’s usually fine unless you’re skating somewhere really dusty or dirty like this indoor park I go to but even then I can just wipe it on my leg. if it’s actually bad from mud or dirt use a damp towel and it’s like new again!
I tried this stuff years ago and it works but wiping it off over and over again got old.
Good point! One indoor park I go to is obnoxiously dusty and one summer my local was too but luckily those were the only times I really had to.
My dyde, is it really worth it?
I think so bro, just make sure you skate it with shoes not warn from regular grip!
No dude you just want fresh shoes so they’re not already worn from regular grip. Then your shoes will last at least 2- 3 years. not months. And sweat doesn’t ever do anything to grippyness, heavy rain would but idk why you’d be skating then, dust only if it’s really dusty or you walk through mud and have dirty shoes.
@YILONG MUHHHHHHHHH how did you even click on this video and come away with that thought… lmao
@@skatechairthe grip is designed to work with the fresh rubber if new shoes not sanded down old shoes for max grip
we need ricky to review this video for sure
I’ll be making a much better follow up video soon! Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss it
I really appreciate all the support! :)
