I am now in dire need of a story about a harebrained inventor who only gets by because his ghost companion spooks customers into buying stuff from his shop
I know right? And if you had a Tardis, that's home security, infinite space for cool fantasy gear you collect during adventures, and a swimming pool for your dragon!
Chill, laid-back wizard entrepreneur: builds a flying city. Hobbits: "What will those wizards get up to next? If that eyesore casts a shadow on my fields, I'll have to send a strongly worded letter."
Tardis is a better pick for shop owner. You can trade with different time periods in opportune time. For example you can arrive in Numenor with umbrellas you-know-when and sell them for double price. Or just find artefacts in time they where common and bring them into the future for trade.
Merph, not sure use of a dragon to kill targets counts as assassination. At that point it's more "unprovoked military invasion." Assassination implies subtlety in a way that dragons are traditionally the antithesis of. (Subtle of wit, sometimes, sure, but subtle in exercising of violence?)
Idk, there are a lot of different types of dragons in the world. For instance an eastern dragon usually is more slender and wise, there could definitely be some stealth happening there. Plus there’s water dragons that could sabotage boats… the possibilities really are endless
When I was a kid there were fewer tv options than there are now, and they were inundated with exotic pets. My favorite was Ben, the friendly Bear, Flipper the Dolphin was good too. Of course Lassie the Collie Dog, but I think my favorite was the one with the friendly Elephant. Sorry, I was never partial to dragons, tho Eddie, the kid in the Munsters, had a pet dragon, Spot, who lived under the stairs. So, if it's my adventure I think I'd try a Bear. Bears always reminded me of big, friendly dogs.
Gotta love how quickly we went from criticizing those who wanted to be an active hero to the desire of being a dragon riding, murder hobo. I wasn't expecting so much bloodlust when I started this video.
They didn’t choose the TARDIS! 💀😂 WHY????? You are right about the short books. If someone can write like that… Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Ursula Le Guin… usually they are masters of words. And yes, even Steven Erikson.
Oh I was happily playing in the Instagram stories when I noticed it was YOUR Instagram lol. I choose future sight as a gift, not everyone can have elemental magic and the hero needs an incense smelling witch to tell him a shady profecy that'll ruin their life.
Wizards and Widgets: A Bookish Tale I loved chose your own adventure books when I was a kid. I would change to be the hero, I don't see myself as a passive person if there's something I am able to contribute.
Ok, there were too many funny things in this video to even directly mention and comment on them all 🤣 Also please do more of these!! You could do all different genres and time periods!!!
When you described the way to inhabit a planet, I kind of went straight to Star Trek TNG, in an episode where they encounter something called a Dyson Sphere.
You absolutely should watch the Stargate SG-1 episode "The Nox" from season 1. It would be where I would pull the passive elemental wizard character from. Particularly, I'd have him be very old and also playful with an invisible dragon. v=wMscLN-vMO8
This was so much fun. It's amazing how different our taste in books is, but I can't help myself from coming back to your channel and listening to you talk about books (we occasionally like the same ones, hehe). Love your work!
I would choose future sight over elemental magic, on the condition that I’m not living in a deterministic universe - i.e that my visions are of things that might happen, not things that will happen. That way (since I’m the wise wizard) I could use them to provide guidance to the protagonists and help them to avert whatever disasters I’ve foreseen (since, let’s face it, no-one ever sees good things in their prophetic visions). In a deterministic universe prophetic visions would probably be more curse than blessing, but elemental magic wouldn’t make a difference either since our fates would already be sealed.
so there is a "Frankenstein" setting that might have been more attractive as an option...and am Curious if you have peeked into Murphy. I enjoyed Dean Koontz's pentalogy although only read the first two so far. It isn't about the origins of His Monster but a what if of if his monster kept living and became more of a man with monstrous in him. Don't want to spoil more than that reveal but recommend to look into and possibly review :) Perhaps for next Halloween?
Hard agree! I don't particularly care for the world of the lord of the rings so I would've taken the other option but the other option is a world where been non white and not male is a death sentence?, No thank you if I'm gonna die better be by dragon or orc or magical creature, for mad scientists I would've gone with maybe A natural history of dragons (MC is not mad in the book but she gets pretty close), Gideon the night (the scientific part wasn't much in the books but those as**les where mad AF) or the two necromancers series that even tho I know is technically fantasy, the necromancy part is very rooted in science and MC has so many screws missing you'll think he will fall apart at any moment
I'd change the animal companion to be a wolf or a bird or something, because then I'm literally just Radagast with a job. Also...pretty sure I wouldn't want to be hanging around with Lord of the Rings dragons. Smaug is about as chill as they come. Glaurung is *much* worse. And then there's Ancalagon the Black who's the size of a mountain and gets smote by the Earendil so hard he takes a trio of volcanoes with him as he dies. (Ancalagon doesn't last long, partly because the War of Wrath section of the Silmarillion is one of the more overview-y sections of the book (as I recall. Which is unfortunate, it sounds like that was one heck of an epic fight, and I'd have loved to see it get the full treatment that Helm's Deep or Pellanor Fields gets.)
If you did the One Piece world that “which role” question would be very interesting. On the one hand if you are an MC it is almost impossible for you to get killed off, but you are 100% guaranteed a horrific backstory. On the other hand if you are a background character you might be fine, but you probably end up living somewhere awful until Luffy shows up. Or Lulucia.
I enjoy reading complicated fantasy epics. But everyone once and a while, I long for the simplicity of choose your own adventure books. I would like to read one set in a fantasy world. Or better yet, authors should write a choose your own adventure book in their own world (s). I want one where I am based on Roshar.
Ok so like i don't know how to do glass work and probably wouldn't actually enjoy it but if I am shop keep with a dragon nothing says it's a big one, maybe it's small and like heats glass so I can share it in a more controlled way (I got that idea from an art piece 😅). A bakery dragon would be cool though, my little dragon gets paid in pies which are almost as big as them
I like Golden Age Hawkman too much to not pick a Hawk companion. I don't have Instagram, so I didn't do this quiz, but that's what I would have chosen.
Merphy. In the video you feared that if you had future site, you would fear getting a vision of when your husband would die. Not sure why, but I found it interesting you feared having a vision of knowing when your husband would die rather than yourself.
The defining conceit of murder-hobo-ism isn't so much killing and stealing, it's treating everything ... _everything_ ... as a lootbox: "You enter the magic shop. It has a few common expendable items and what looks like a single, somewhat humble, magic sword in a case." "Fred and Finieous go to talk to the shopkeeper while Charley puts out the Closed sign and lowers the shades." "'What are you doing with my shades?'" "While the shopkeeper is distracted, Finieous sticks his dagger in the shopkeeper's kidney." "You detect a trap in the corridor ahead." "After we disarm it, we get out the picks and crowbars. Traps are expensive!" "When you open the door, you see an empty 10' x 10' room." "We pop the hinges on the door and drop it into the portable hole. Have you ever priced a solid oak door?" "As night is falling, you reach a humble, but warm and welcoming inn." "What level is the innkeeper? And what's a good place to sell some flatware and used mugs?" Everything. Assassins and con-men are a rather different breed of cat.
I have never in my life wacthed dr Who. I only have a vague knowledge of what a Tardis is. Maybe its a more cultural thing. Of course I'm not form either the states or uk
When I saw LOTR vs Frankenstein I was like "bu-but Frankenstein is our world(???) is this if I want to be one of the characters or inside the plot as a character or what?? I need information!!!" haha I mean I would pick LOTR even after hearing this explanation but thats why I voted for it then
Well the question of the companion was obvious: dragons!!! I love assassins but i dont think i could be one. Future sight seems incredibly terrible when you know something will happen, but cant do anything about it.
A passive wizard, with a staff and elemental magic, who's only here for second breakfast, with an animal companion....wait....is Merphy Radagast the Brown??!!!!! 😂
I chose the "respectable career" over "murder hobo" because even tho I really just wanna be a hooded assassin, how cute would it be to have a small shop filled with hand made stuff made of wood probably and with warm light coming in and the smell of freshly baked bread from the bakery next door and aaaaaaa so cute
When I read dragon or wolf my mind went to Toothless and Nighteyes so I was like YES. I don't know what hawk means and I didnt understand what I could do with a ghost anyway so 😂
I can only guess that you have attracted a respectable audience by being a respectable woman. I would like future sight if it meant that I saw and could counter danger to my person like a jedi/force user or Melisandre.
Heya! Do you have a video recommending different book tubers you enjoy? I've been watching Daniel and you for a while but finding it hard to branch out.
I would change it to murder hobo, but since I’m less murdery, I’d be a regular hobo/nomad. Specifically a mysterious nomad with a dragon and wizard staff wandering the lands with my elemental magic helping those other magical creatures in need! That’s the dream!

How could you be a hobo and a dragon owner ? People would just give you stuff to keep you happy living in their village. In one year you would eliminate all small criminals and seasonal criminal making the rounds for the crops or "taxes". Also, wouldn't the store make you automatically not a hobo ? Why live outside having a store to manage with walls and a roof.

well, following the tradition of Jill Bearup, now you have to write a book bringing all these choices into a charming narrative
