Bringing home a baby bumblebee is now what goes thru my head as I play this lol! This will be fun to play to the grandkids and have them learn to sing along with it. Love the easy lessons :-)
Thanks so much for these lessons. I love them! Such a good learning tool to see your hands and voice explaining what you are doing. I love the extras with the alternative ways of playing as well.
I LOVE these lessons. Playing my Mom's dulcimer that sat silent for too many years. I am 60 and proving that you can learn a new skill no matter what age you are. Just learned Arkansas Traveler and am so proud of myself!
Thank you so much, Brett, for these lessons. I am finally learning to play my dulcimer with understanding and technique. Not so easy for these 70-year old hands but I plan to keep at it.
I took the first lesson with all of the chords and since November 2019, I’ve taught myself 12 songs. The one I’ve taught myself to do a fancy picking style is Jason Isbell’s, “Coved Me Up!” My grown children are proud and amazed!!!!! So am I.
Your instruction is so very well done. I’m beginning to think about getting a mountain dulcimer and learning. The flat picking style really appeals to me. Thank you.
My dulcimer arrived last week. I have never played a mountain dulcimer before... and thanks to your lesson, I now have a totally cool (perhaps a bit fumbling and slow) rendition of Arkansas Traveler in my repertoire! Love your step-by-step & repeat methodology!
I love that! And I appreciate you sharing that with me! By the way I will be teaching a virtual festival in June on flat picking the mountain Dulcimer that I think you might really enjoy!
I really enjoy this lesson. I'm about have way through it and having a great time. This is my first piece played on dulcimer. Once I feel it is fully together I will move on to the next piece as I build skills. Thanks so much for your lessons. The way you lay it all out if easy to follow.
@@BrettRidgewaysLearningForLife Over the last months I have learned 9 tunes with your great tutorials (also the beautiful tune Wildwood Flower) ... and the best is that you teach them without tabs - so I know them all by heart even after a longer pause. : )
@@arianemusic5763 I've been playing for several years but I'm always looking for learning opportunities. Arkansas Traveler is the first of your videos, and it won't be the last. Thanks for your patient and methodical instruction. JT
By jove, I think I got it. Amazingly, I'm playing along except for the fast repetition at the very end. With practice, with practice ............ Thanks!
Where did you get your dulcimer? What brand/make is it? Despite living in GA, my grandfather bought a dulcimer here in AR. He gave it to me, and it looks very similar to yours! I think he got it in Northeast AR, but not sure
PS: Do you have a suggested order to watch these teaching lessons? I’ve just been jumping around here & there, although I have watched the first 3 already! Thx! 🙏 😊 🙏 ♥️M
The lessons and the beginner playlist are numbered. Once you work your way through those lessons you can go to anything in the beginner Playlist. I hope that helps
I also want to add that I have a cheapo dulcimer, so I can't do the hammer on and other such. I am shopping for a real dulcimer, but my cheapo one is doing OK.
btw dislikes count the same as likes if you didn't know, so instead of asking for likes only, you could suggest hitting like if you liked it and dislike if you didn't, it seems a bit less like begging. I loved the video though so dont worry which im going to hit though
I don't like the way you play one song at the beginning and teach a different song. Very confusing to not hear the song that you're teaching until the very end.
The song at the beginning is sort of like the intro theme song. But if this makes you feel any better, on the newer lesson videos I play the song at the very beginning. It’s only like that on the older lessons

always an excellent way to learn to play without music
Your teaching is spot on. I'm a dulcimer teacher, been playing since 2006. Your videos was good and enlightening. Thank you

What is the opening song you play with each lesson? What instrument is that - Banjo??
I believe it is Wayfaring Stranger
