I remember having a huge kid crush on news 11 reporter Andrea Shane..
She lived in the same condominium building as my dad, so on the weekends going over there I was always hoping I'd either see her walk by or catch her sunning at the pool.. Never said more than hi to her though.. lol

Gannett did alot of investing into their stations. Channel 11 Mpls- was a success story. Even beat the two established stations KSTP, WCCO.
WXIA 11ALVE in Atlanta also had the Gannett formula as well KUSA 9, WUSA 9, KPNX 12 in Phoenix which had made them competitive in their own market. Such a stark contrast today where Gannett became TEGNA...WOW!

One of the things that helped WTCN(KARE 11( was totally unexpected) The famous 1986 tornado that they got on the air had a lot of viewers tuned in and they liked what they saw and stayed. That hurt KSTP more than WCCO as WCCO was considered the gold standard in the Twin Cities(and across the country for CBS stations)

I never lived in Minnesota but I've lived in Georgia where there's another 11 that was owned by Gannett Broadcasting and it was 11Alive WXIA TV Atlanta and it was owned by Gannett broadcasting. The same people that owned wtcn now KARK 11 my favorite out of all the news packages which both of them used was the hello news package. And then after that WXIA went to the great news package which is a fantastic news package. all I can say is Hello Minnesota 11 loves you!!! And for Atlanta it's all right here on 11Alive.😀😀

Our family visited the Twin Cities in August 1985. We stayed at a motel. They just had antenna televisionm. WTCN had the BEST newscast at the time.

9 Country/11 Country was first used in 1983 by sister station KUSA Channel 9 here in Denver during its ABC affiliate days. Voiceover for KUSA news opens (using 9 Country/11Country) and some promos was done by Mr. ABC himself, Ernie Anderson. KUSA's team was all men: Mike Landess & Ed Sardella (news), Stormy Rottman (weather), Mike Nolan (sports), and Carl Akers (commentary). I believe Joe Franzgrote and Andrea Shaine left KUSA for WTCN (now KARE) in mid-80s. They took the 9 Country/11 Country news theme with them to 9's sister station in the Twin Cities. I wonder who did that news theme music package. Today, as with KARE 11, KUSA is now an NBC affiliate. KUSA affiliated with NBC in 1995.

It’s interesting how “state of the art” they were back in the day

When WTCN talked about their Duluth bureau, I would assume that they shared the bureau with Duluth’s NBC affiliate KBJR (Channel 6).

Ironic that the narrator’s voice is too low in the mix.
