Hey everyone- a couple of corrections have been pointed out to me by a commenter, so thank you to @Tim Cardona for those. @9:45 the chord should be an A7 with a sharp 5th and 9th (With your right hand, play G, C, C#, and F. Your thumb should be on G. With your left hand, play A or A octaves). @9:54 the chord should be a Dm7 with a sharp 5th (With your right hand, play Bb, C, and F. Your thumb should be on Bb. With your left hand, play D or D octaves). Thanks again!
I don’t even play piano and I liked this video. Suggestion: please make a video playing these beautiful exotic chords and just analyze why we love them so much
I’m getting the shivers listening to this, it’s incredible to hear this broken down, such awesome beautiful chords! So great that you’ve taken the time to break this down and share with us, awesome work. Thanks!
Outside of the monster harmony I'm kind of surprised at how simple this is to play. What Fagen lacked in chops he more than made up for with harmonic brilliance
@@jdee8267 Yeah that's actually where I found some of the chords for this song. The entire process behind the making of Guacho is just so interesting. I'd give almost anything to hear finished versions of songs like this and the second arrangement
Thanks for taking the time to make this tutorial but I'm about half way through the verse and there are some wrong chords. The Am7 after "great moments as they come" should be an A7 with a #9 & #5 (same voicing as earlier) and the Dm7 right after almost certainly has a #5; these are critical tensions that make or break that section.
Hey Tim! First off, thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching. Second, you're right, I listened back and that Am7 should definitely be an A7(#5 #9). You're also right about the Dm7- I definitely hear the Bb in there now. As I said in the video, I thought the version I had was "close" to the original but not exact. I had to try to get a lot of the song by ear, and I definitely don't have perfect pitch. So I'm sorry if those errors muddled the tutorial for you. Unfortunately the best I can offer you is to take it or leave it, but in my future tutorials I'll make sure to put clearer disclaimers if I think the version I have may have some chords that aren't exact. Anyways, thanks for the corrections and I hope you got a version of the song you're happy with.
@@dsstudios3524 Hey man its all good I just thought it'd be best for all of us to have everything as accurate as possible. The full band version has guitar voicings high in the mix and they are a big help to figuring out some notes
@@dsstudios3524 I did the same work a long time ago because it is my absolute favorite SD song ! I learned jazz chords with them and Gino Vannelli records

Donald Fagan at his most 'Brubeckian'. Perhaps his most uncompromising piece. Thank you!
Appreciate all the effort in putting this out there.

Honestly like a dream come true, perfect
Some of chord progressions are just stunning, thanks for the tutorial :)
Absolutely, one of the most unique and beautiful chord progressions I've ever come across. Thanks so much for watching!
Thanks so much for this, learning this by ear always seemed like too much of a nightmare for me lol

Brilliant... well done
@14:41 that is actually a Dbmaj9 and not a Dbmaj13. Sorry!
This is such a great tutorial, I really appreciate the time and effort that went into the explanation of it all! Thank you ;)
Thanks so much for the kind words. So glad you enjoyed it.
Go ahead, man! I'm here for it all
@dsstudios3524 wowww this tutorial is amazing! Thank you so much! Please make more tutorials of lost Gaucho track haha
Thank you - much appreciated.
I admire you.
Beautiful
Thank you :)
Don’t know if you saw Steve Khans notes on this, totally fascinating www.stevekhan.com/gaucho_steelydan_reflections.htm

Amazing! If you have this written down and it's easy to send/post, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Woah hyper technical ......
Great video but some chords are not in the composition... if my ears are normal

Your ears are normal, these chords are not 100% accurate lol. I did the best I could back then
