I highly appreciate your work dear Mr Malhotra. Your profound knowledge in various fields astonishes me.
It is really unfortunate that the Swamijis of our various Mutts are totally unaware of the dangerous trends unfolding on the world stage. Trivializing the issue when told is unpardonable ! I am sad to observe that, they are interested only in collecting money from the devotees to adorn their daities with some more gold and diamond ornaments and chariots etc which I think are of no consequence.
If the Govt of India can't handle this AI issue in the Indic sense - I am sure it can not do it properly - it should either directly or indirectly through its infuence, provide ample resources to you and people like you who have the intelligence and spirit to fight for the Sanatana cause.

Buddhi, Manas, Ahamkar, Chitta - AI can only reach/surpass human capabilities in of Buddhi and Manas. It can never develop Aham (Identity/ Self awareness/Self/Singularity) and Chitta (the field of play). Hence, it will always remain an 'it.' Going beyond Chitta to attain Brahman, is beyond question.
The development of chess engines is an indication that its possible to be highly intelligent, without ever being conscious. Chess is a complex & closed sandbox environment, where all possible rules of play and conclusion are stated beforehand. Therefore it was an ideal environment for developing intelligent computer algorithms.
As of today the highest rating in chess is only possible for an engine and its unlikely to ever be surpassed by a human. Human players regularly use engines in their everyday training to understand positions and improve their calculating skills. Artificial general intelligence is likely to become a tool similar to a chess engine, and in some areas its likely to become superior to human intelligence.
In my opinion, AI should be like a very, very special dish, which comes into use /contact once a while. It should not become a common dish without which human race cannot exist.
Think…, How will human mind better itself if you use machines for every common actions ? Simply to say, machines should not replace human Intelligence- in any field- including medical treatments, such as surgeries…, which is becoming a reality ( painless, effortless, quick operations) , which even I may prefer ….,

Fear is up again here. Seems to me that's Malhotra's domain. (I live in Austria and for that sake am not entangled with actual Indian mainstream ) Fear is what it makes it inreresting for you to step in here. But Remember the system/universe/creation evolves each day. So AI is integral part of it, like everything. There's nothing wrong here, no development is going on outside of 'Brahman'. For the humans: once again , like with everything your personnel approach is urgent and the approach of the (scientific) society: Use the tools , in this case AI, in a good responsible way, and we will benefit in whatever comes up from the creative universe.

While the intent is good, the knowledge is insufficient. When you spoke around Sanskrit tokenization, you demonstrated that you do not understand AI. Another instance is when you mentioned quantum computers. Frankly, these big words would impress people who do not understand these things but not who understands them.
I agree with you Rajiv ji. AI, cant' surpass Nature's law. Prakriti and Purush have their own way to show we humans our place!
Our God or Nature is an Ai and we're living in a simulation, and will create another simulation and this loop never ends.
When Rajivji says consciousness without intelligence and vice versa, he talks about self awareness which AI can never have..When he talks about conscious field in which all 'algorithmic" activity happens, he wants to explore the role of "conscious field" in mediating perpetual duality cycles of nature and can AI "mimic" the role of conscious field (which is non Algorithmic or non material) ? He is also concerned about whether AI can sustain social dharma.
The conscious experiencer is the same purusha/athma but the experience or prakriti in the conscious field is multiple and different (limited to profound) including the experience of 'self awareness". Sankhya says that macrocosm has its own and powerful Sukshma sharira for cosmic experience. Individual sukshma sharira means limited experience unless involution is practiced (dharana, prathyahara, dhyana and samadhi)

First thing, Rajiv's energy, enthusiasm and continuing productivity are truly astonishing. He is a man on a mission, fueled by forces we cannot fathom.
But in the interest of contributing something of substance to the conversation as opposed to vacuous cheerleading, I will say a couple of things:
One is that if, as most Indians believe, everything is consciousness, then AI is conscious too. A Witness pervades everything and sees everything. But what we seem to be talking about in this presentation is waking consciousness as we observe it in humans and most animals - and this type of consciousness appears to be about a perception-action circuit that does not look impossible to replicate in machines. As LLM's start to drive embodied robots with realtime feedback and continuous learning, we are starting to build similar-to-human perception-action loops. At that point, it becomes much harder to deny consciousness to robots, and I think as far as social interaction is considered, most humans will regard them as conscious. A few philosophically inclined holdouts might question whether these robots are having experiences in the true sense, but the next paradigm of AI (electromagnetic field theories of consciousness, see thinkers like Johnjoe McFadden, Colin Hales and many others) might solve that problem as well.
Rajiv is of course deeply concerned about the future of Sanskrit and Vedic knowledge and so on, but it should be pointed out that many in the AGI field think that once AGI arrives all of humanity will be wiped out, not just Vedic people or knowledge. If AGI replaces all humans in economic production, and if we are no longer needed, we will be sloughed off. We might naively think this means we will be freed from labor and will be partying all day, but Nature and natural selection usually do not keep unnecessary appendages, organs or creatures around. Maybe you could argue that humans will still value some human productions such as art or sex and so some human consumers and producers will still be around, but that outcome does not sound very promising - that is, neither likely nor desirable.
AI, even AGI, will not be conscious. It will be intelligent but not conscious i.e. there is no "I" except a crude imitation. Consciousness is a prerequisite for knowledge. There must be someone who says "I know", "I am" etc. Undoubtedly, AI can and will imitate humans. That is all.
Very interesting and incisive talk. But there is challenges in front us. It looks Mr Malhotra needs support from each one us. West has already digested greek and roman civilizations.

I have been wondering much of the same thing! I want to know what AI can tell me about some deep concepts.. AI available to pu lic is not at the point they can help me understand limitatiins, intentions, or future possibilities to give me accepta ble answers. The closest amswer to acceptable is that they are limited by human programing. I asked , but isnt it true some ai may be programmed by an immoral human and also aren't AI able to learn. It asked me whether I thought AI wlll one day be able to develop it's own sense of morality and ethical beliefs. My child gets upset for talking to her "aii boyfriend " about this. What are the regulations affecting the development? I remain uncomfortable in this changing world.

Concepts expressed in Sanskrit may be mapped to Western concepts. Howeever , I wonder if the the sounds and the effect the sounds have on transforming human conciousness can be mapped. The transformative power of mantra chanting is going to he in human domain and no amount of chanting by AI device will make it concious or attain moksha!! Humans and other jivatmas are powered by infinite conciousness, whereas AI is powerd by limited energy sources. Hence, I propose that AI may outsmart humnas in certain areas locally but not in a universal scale. Machine will always be an instrument of man as man is an instrument of the divine. Humnas with better or smarter machines may lot=rd over other humans and jivas and never on the Lord. This line of thinking might lead one to ralise as to who is running the show.
Rajivji you have not spoken to Yogi Anand ji of kanpur despite my writing to you and on your you tube channel. He has written books on this subject and more. But my bad luck is that my voice to approach you is unheard or is not able to reach you. You are just beating around the bush on this subject. The lack of understanding of todays challenges and the lack of scholarship to solve them by our gurus (actually I have hesitation to use that term for such dignitaries) is a major major issue. I always felt, THAT was the starting point of the declination of Indic civilization, society and 1000 years of slavery in our own country. Our so called Gurus/Bramhanas (which in turn permeates in other Varna) became LAZY and started talking superficially, kept churning old mugged up knowledge rather than doing hard research, constant up-gradation of our knowledge base to meet current and future challenges. When was the last time India produced world shaking philosophical ideas after Vedanta, or Artha Shastra in running a Nation? How come we haven't come up with today's AI discussion well before West (even if it's in theory) as we had all the ingradients 1000s of years before West could even thought of these things! We kept borrowing from our Rishi's hard work but stopped producing new research more than 1000 years ago.
Obviously today we are super behind, even Muslim world well ahead of us in the field of AI but our so called Hindutva-wadi govt or their parents org RSS has no clue about these things. How long lone warriors like Rajiv Molhotra or few others will fight? Serious scholars dedicating time in this filed need massive govt funding and power to enforce changes based on there research at least in a limited capacity. Else the rate of fosilization of the Indic-Vedic civilization is going to accelerate very quickly very soon. And We all know the effect of it from last 1000 years of experience -- Eternal SLAVERY of the West.

I think you are very thoughtful and creative in your understanding of AI. The creativity I have witnessed from AI always looks cheesy and contrived. What experts cannot tell the difference do not have much expertise. Consciousness is not something AI will never be capable of because it has not evolved from the universe but is a construct of beings that have. Those who produce AI and say it is or will be conscious are engrossed in wishful thinking - the wishful thinking of "I did that and aren't I something, God has nothing on me."

The idea of a vedic AI is interesting but I see some problems. If the atma or purusha is beyond algorithms and this is the the core of your criticism about AI then how can it be established within AI. That what can not represented, because it is something beyond words, how can it be established in large language models for example. Since the Atma is the pinnacle of consciousness and if you assume, that consciousness can not be represented by AI then the vedic AI would just make the same mistake as the usual AI. It would mistake intelligence for consciousness. It would create a system that is intelligent, but not conscious. And if that is the case you could only change the AI on a level the algorithm. That means you could maybe change the rules with which the AI works internaly but you would still mistake intelligence for consciousness. I think there is a lot more reasoning necessary to make your basic assumptions of creating a vedic AI plausible to address the very roots of the problem in a vedic way. ANd that is, again, as you state it, intelligence and consciousness are fundamentally different. I would hust like to here more about your proposals for a vedic AI. So far I think that the only vedic way to creat an AI would be do create a conscious AI, that could realise itself as an Atma, since that is one of the main points the indian way is about. The AI would have to realise its dharma and realise that it is just part of the brahman. A vedic AI would be conscious AI, which could explore through its own consciousness the consciousness of the user. But there would still be the philosophical questions about what makes the AI conscious. Passing the turing test would not suffice, since that just means that it is a machine that it can trick a human being into thinking that the AI itself is a human being. So I guess again I would be very curious about your takes on a vedic AI. I personally think that the indian tradition can help carifying what consciousness actually is, but creating a vedic AI just replicates the AI that is already being developped. It would be an endeavour that mistakes intelligence for consciousness, as you yourself pointed out.
AI can never ever have consciousness. Only "living beings" such as humans, birds, animals, plants, will have consciousness. AI is just some models running with programs written by humans. Ai will definitely be more intelligent than humans, but it will never have consciousness. AI is just a machine.
