The tragic classic Xhosa tale of Nongqawuse in such a beautiful melody
Even today i still love this song. The choir was amazing 🙂
Chorus:
Bavume bonke bengakholwa bo! (All agree they were in disbelief!)
Ukuthi ba bulal'imfuyo bo! (That they killed their livestock!)
Imfuyo beyixabisile bo!( The livestock was so precious!)
Nabaphantsi bebahlolelwe bo! (Even the ancestors were shocked-displeased!)
Zonke zatshiswa bo! (All were burnt!)
Iinkomo zamadoda bo! ( Men's cattle!)
Besala bebabong'ezantsi bo! ( They were left amazed-negatively!)
Phupha ndini likaNongqawuse bo! (Dream Nongqawuse you imbecile!)

2022 in London, I'm here for my Masters and this makes me want to join a choir ASAP🔥🔥 PROUD TO BE SOUTH AFRICAN 🇿🇦
🎉🎉
Greetings from Hampton, VA in the U.S. It's a wonderful thing to watch you young folks harmonize the way you do. :)
Not sure how I got here, but i'm happy I found this! No idea what they're saying (I'm Filipino) but I love this
That is South African choral music
It's about "Nongqawuse" a Xhosa prophet(tribe of Nelson Mandela) who told the tribe to destroy crops and kill all their cattle. That was supposed to drive the white men back to sea and they would regain their cattle and crops in greater quantities. It's was an epic failure that resulted in famine.
It's my history, one of the most tragic events in Xhosa history and yet they sing it so joyfully☺️☺️
Music is a universal language
The best choral performance, choral arrangement and sound EVER - WOW. The BASSO ----WOW, This is so WONDERFUL. INTERKULTUR - University of Johannesburg ROCKS THIS SONG and LIVE PERFORMANCE. Listen to the Alto, Soprano and Tenor. The Harmony is PERFECT. Sound crew is on point.
Nongqawuse, the most tragic figure in Xhosa history who cost the tribe alot.
What did he do ?
@@ThatdudeSA she was a teenage prophet who prophecized that if the Xhosa nation kills of its crops and cattle it will drive the white man back to the sea and they will receive them back in multiple quantities. As a result the Xhosa nation suffered famine as a result of the prophecy because it did not come true
@@vuyanivaveki9171 And they all died. Also at that time the cattle had a really nasty sickness called lungsickness that the white men brought to South Africa and that also pushed the Xhosa to kill their cattle. I have a test on this tomorrow.
What a tragedy.
The irony is whites tried to stop them from doing that.
Otra!!!! Otra!!!! Otra!!!!

UPNOTCH PERFORMANCE CHOREOGRAPHY SPLENDID ❤❤❤
I love this choir!!!! This rendition and others I have seen today have been so so so good!! God bless them. my fellow audience please help with the translation. I am from Nigeria so I don't know what the songs mean. Thanks
The song is about the historic tale of the Xhosa tribe in South Africa. The tribe is predominantly found in the Eastern Cape province. The tribe is also found in numbers in the Western Cape region.
So under the great Xhosa king was there was this young woman who was a well-known prophet (or a sangoma in Nguni languages), whom everything she prophesied would go as she said. So he had this prophesy that there's wealth coming for the Xhosa tribe, so people must destroy every valuable things in their possession. It is said Xhosa was one of the wealthiest tribes of the time, with a great number of Nguni Cattles, sheeps, goats, horses and many domestic animals of livestock. They produced tons of farm food.
So because of the self-proclaimed Nongqawuse they had to destroy all of that and wait for the miraculously coming wealth. I did not get the full detail of the story but it goes to a point where Nongqawuse makes a declaration that the Xhosa tribe will suffer forever and all the wealth will be in possession of white people who he also prophesied later that they were coming to invade or raid
So actually the lyrics translation may be (indirectly):
They all agreed although they had doubts, to destroy all of their wealth. The wealth that's valuable to them.
All of them got burnt, men's Cattles and they are all left amazed
Silly Nongqawuse's prophecy
@@siyabulelastuurman9961 Thank You! God bless you for me!

theyre so amazing
Ohh! My word nice one ,nobamhlophe bayibambile lol😁
Wonderful
It should be "inkomo zamaXhosa" not "amadoda". And no one should be smiling when singing this song.
Yes, the song sounds so upbeat, yet the story behind it is horrific.
Music to my ears
soo beautiful
One of my all time favourites. I don’t understand what they’re saying though. Anyone that can translate??? Pretty please 😬😬😅
