- 3 Day Solo Backpacking Trip to Fly Fish Nelson Lake in Yosemite's Backcountry
Day 1:
When: October 4, 2024
Temps: Day Upper 60s | Night Mid-20s
Trailhead: Parson's Lodge Parking Lot (Tuloumne Meadows Campground was Closed for renovations)
Mileage: 7.79 | Last 4.5 miles are on unmaintained trail and require maps/GPS
Time: 4.5 hours
Elevation Gain: 1,919 ft
Level of Crowdness: Pure Solitude
I head out on a 3 day backpacking trip to Nelson Lake. I heard it was full of hungry brook trout and was excited to bring my fly rod and spend all of Day 2 fishing it. After Elizabeth Lake the trail begins its journey up and over the Cathedral Crest Pass where GPS is needed to navigate certain sections. Once over the trail you parallel Echo Creek before needing your GPS again to bushwhack over to the south side of Nelson Lake. @@shmeegins_adventures I was here for the fishing. Was wondering since Yosemite doesn’t stock and relies on natural propagation in its streams and lakes.
@@chili1593 oh man this lake is full of Brookies and since it’s a no campfire zone I’m assuming everyone catches and releases. Those dried up creeks I passed had some pools of water in them and brookies were in there too! Def a solid trip for fishing. I promise for fishing action next video lol it was so windy on Day 1 I had a hard time casting so just edited it out 🤪
