    Thanks for the video guide! Just completed this on my 2016 S. I managed to find a complete console on eBay for £161 ($208) and it took me about 4 hours to complete. It’s changed the car for me and now have 6 cup holders instead of 2 which is super handy and some much needed storage.
    I didn’t disassemble the console except for removing the side panels and bottom vent housing to get to the cable
    Obstacles for me were the splice as I didn’t take out the cigarette lighter but red to red worked fine.
    Also as I didn’t take the seats out I put the side trims of the console on before reinstalling which I then had to pop off to reinstall the kick panels.
    I’m so glad I found this video as I had ordered the taptes but this was much cheaper and better solution.

    Three hours since I completed the replacement on 2014. Huge thanks for this video - was great guide. Especially part about the rear USB ports. In total took me around 4 hours to perform this without removing front seats.
    Hit some unexpected obstacles though, so for other enthusiasts willing to take on this challenge - mounting screws for console under the rear cup holders were half and inch too short for new console, since the bottom was a bit thicker there. Another recommendation - in my case I had huge bundle of wires blocking the sliding lid to lock in, so had to take few steps back and shift the wire aside and fix it in that position.
    And in my case I wanted to replace trim piece on the elbow rest, so the trick here is to use force to yank those cushions off from their hinges. There are no levers to push or anything. All of the force applied to remove pieces at all times seemed excessive :D But yeah. End result is great! Nothing is broken, everything works :D

      One thing that is worth mentioning is that the wiring underneath the MCU most likely needs to be shifted a bit and fixed in place so the sliding cover can go all the way in. I had to do the installation twice because of this 😁

    • @backshopelectric
      @backshopelectric  2 роки тому

      That was the decor trim piece that matches the dash/center console cup holder trim. In my case the original trim decor was piano black. If you are looking to attach something to this trim, I would remove it, then drill holes through it and bolt whatever it is you want to mount to it. Just be very careful around the edges as you can chip the finish on the edges pretty easily. Also, the wires run along the outboard passenger side of the console, so you shouldn’t have a problem hitting any wires.
