I retired in 2011. I was an ETC (SW/CC) in the Navy. I am also a Jew with Israeli heritage. The biggest problem I had with the military was shaving. Shaving every day gave me very bad razor bumps and ingrown hairs, mostly on my neck similar to a lot of my African American shipmates but it took years and a copious amount of pain before I could convince medical to give me a no shave chit waiver. Even when I had it I was still required to shave every 3 days and for inspections. I most definitely grew a beard and have had once since retirement. My wife loves it and says it suits me and she always thought I would l would look better with one.
It shouldn't be an "exemption" either. There should be no rules about beards period. What a person grows on their face has nothing to do with being in the military. It's just a way for the military to control people.
I myself want to join army and keep beard but they argue that soldiers and officers can't have beards because enemy might hold their beard in man to man battle or it is hard to wear gas mask as seen in ww1 and hard to wear oxygen mask in aircraft
Why wouldnt they? They're job is to keep our people safe and a beard like the one he's wearing would provide a handhold in combat, make first aid more difficult, trap possibly lifesaving food/water in an emergency, and provide a surface for chemical agents to get trapped near his face. I am in favor in allowing beards that are neatly kept and no longer than a 1/4 inch, but they're are absolutely downsides to longer ones

There’s no religious requirement of Christian to have beards. You can have one if you’re a sikh, a pagan, a Muslim, or if you say that razors irritate your face.
Alabama Fisher Of men there’s not a religious requirement for Christians to keep beards. Anyway, if you were that devout that you wanted to keep a beard, surely you wouldn’t lie and break the commandment not to lie, as that’s a worse sin than not having a beard.
@@libertyordeath9936 There are very few "religious requirements" in Christianity, but that doesn't mean we don't have spiritual practices we should be allowed to indulge in. As a Jewish Christian, I should be allowed to grow a beard, but so long as people hold to the ignorant view that you have expressed, I will keep on having to suppress my religious expression, simply because "there is no requirement"
This is a moot argument. American Jews are not joining the military for a variety of reasons. Two of my neighbors joined the IDF instead of the American military.
TOTALLY UNTRUE! I’M AN ORTHODOX JEW FROM NYC AND I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO JOIN THE US MILITARY IT’S JUST VERY HARD TO KEEP ORTHODOX JUDAISM IN THE MILITARY. I’M STILL LOOKING INTO IT
While stationed anywhere in Europe or stateside it’s not too difficult. Deployments are a lot harder if not impossible. You could eat Kosher MREs everyday but they’re actually bad for you if you don’t break that up with real food. The chow halls aren’t kosher and serve pork in the same trays / kitchens. It’s possible but would be a very strenuous time. Speaking from experience.
I love beards and everything but you cant properly wear a gas mask with a beard and long hair. Thats why the militaries of the world clean shave and cut hair short. Perhaps with advancements in gas mask technology it will allow for long hair and beards.
Jews Sikhs
Beards🤜🏻🤛🏽
Muslims also
Our Creator made us this way. How men dare to oppose Him ?
Jesus loves you trust and repent in him and you will be saved !

Having beards didn't stop the Sikh troops from slaughtering Pakistan's forces in 1973.
Or from fighting in the somme in ww1
Sikh soldiers have special permission
You mean 1971?
If so didnt the bulk of the army surrender without combat due to lack of ammunition?
I don't see how the troops could've kept themselves clean shaven before the safety razor was invented. Shaving with a straight razor takes longer.
Religious exemptions are stupid. If you can make exemptions for some, then the stipulation isn't mandatory for all
For you every religious thing is stupid. Why? Why not religious people have their own rights?
@@mynameis......23 of course, but if military makes exemptions based on your faith, then the stipulation doesn't need to be there in the first place

Beards and long hair can be detrimental in combat situations - they can be grabbed - better off to have it shaved off for military service
Samson had a beard and long hair and it was not a detriment to him to keep.
